Abstract

The study in this article describes the application of regulations on the use of the Indonesian language on trademarks already contained in Law Number 24 of 2009 which is supported by PERMENDAG No. 73/M-Dag/Per/9/2015 on local fashion products that enter the international market. The aim is to map the application of the use of the Indonesian language that has been carried out by local fashion products that are worldwide because it can help efforts to develop Indonesian into an international language. This study uses a qualitative approach with descriptive analytical specifications and aims to provide a comprehensive, detailed and systematic description. The data is taken from the official website pages of two local fashion product brands that are worldwide, Buttonscarves and Erigo. It was found that Buttonscarves did not fulfill the application of the use of the Indonesian language regarding the trademark name due to the use of the English word to make the Buttonscarves brand more easily accepted in the international market, while for Erigo it cannot be said that it is fulfilled/not because it is not part of the Indonesian word contained in in the Kamus Besar Bahasa Indonesia (KBBI).

Abstract

This study aims to describe the profile and needs of teachers in learning to write science literacy-based explanatory texts at Vocational High Schools (SMK) in Cianjur, Jawa Barat. Employing a descriptive qualitative method, data were collected via an online questionnaire distributed to 19 Indonesian language teachers. The questionnaire instrument consisted of closed and open questions covering respondents' identity, teaching experience, learning challenges, and needs for teaching materials. The results show that most teachers, with varying teaching experience, have taught explanatory texts. However, learning still predominantly focuses on mechanical aspects and has not been optimally integrated with elements of science literacy. Conventional textbooks are still the primary source of learning, while utilizing digital media and contextual materials is minimal. Teachers also expressed the need for teaching materials linking text structures with scientific understanding relevant to students' lives. In addition, training for teachers in integrating science literacy into writing instruction is urgently needed. These findings confirm the importance of developing science literacy-based writing e-modules to solve classroom learning challenges and improve students' critical thinking, information literacy, and writing skills in a contextual and meaningful way.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the challenges, learning needs, and weaknesses in the intrinsic elements of children’s storybooks written by prospective elementary school teachers. The research employed a mixed methods approach with data collected through questionnaires, interviews, and content analysis. Questionnaires were distributed to 122 students from the Primary School Teacher Education (PGSD) and Islamic Primary School Teacher Education (PGMI) programs to identify challenges and learning needs in writing children’s stories. Interviews were conducted with two lecturers teaching children’s literature to explore their perspectives on students’ difficulties. In addition, a content analysis was carried out on 13 student works, consisting of nine children’s storybooks and four educational books, to examine weaknesses in intrinsic elements. Data were analyzed descriptively through triangulation of survey, interview, and content analysis results. The findings reveal that the main challenges lie in narrative perspective (49.18%), plot development (39.35%), and characterisation (36.89%). In terms of learning needs, students require more training in language use (34.43%) and the development of creative originality (31.15%). The content analysis supports these findings, showing narrative weaknesses such as abrupt resolutions, static characters, and the use of unimaginative and non-contextual language. These results highlight the need for a more contextual, practical, and child-literacy-oriented model of story-writing instruction.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the needs and test the effectiveness of the BIMA (Culture, Inquiry, Creation, and Activity) model in strengthening cultural literacy and improving students' narrative writing skills in higher education. The method used was Research and Development (R&D) with four stages: exploration, prototype design, field trials, and final validation and model revision. Data were obtained through focus group discussions, questionnaires, observations, interviews, and document analysis. Instrument validity was tested through expert and student validation, and qualitative data validity was strengthened through source triangulation and informant review. Quantitative data were analyzed descriptively, while qualitative data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model. The results showed that the BIMA model significantly improved students' narrative writing skills by strengthening cultural literacy. The average assessment from the three student groups was categorized as "very important" with a score of 4.38, confirming the model's suitability for implementation in narrative writing instruction in higher education. The implications of this research indicate that the BIMA model can be an alternative for contextual and character-based learning, in line with the principles of Freedom to Learn (Merdeka Belajar), and contribute to strengthening cultural literacy and developing students' national character.

Abstract

Abstract Teachers and students are consistently associated within the discourse of education. An ideal classroom environment is one in which power between teachers and students is balanced, allowing learning to occur without rigidity or anxiety, thereby achieving instructional objectives. Ideally, teacher manuals—as guides for classroom instruction—should reflect this balanced teacher-student power relationship. However, in practice, communication within instructional contexts still reveals the dominance of teachers, which tends to limit students' agency in the classroom. This study aims to uncover and describe the teacher-student power relations as represented in Indonesian language teaching manuals for teachers. Three teacher manuals for grades X, XI, and XII were analyzed descriptively using a qualitative approach and discourse analysis, particularly Ruth Wodak’s Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA). The findings indicate that teacher-student power relations are unequal. Teachers are portrayed as holding stronger authority than students. In the texts, the term teacher frequently occupies the subject position and is depicted as the assigner of tasks or commands, with the authority to judge or validate knowledge. Meanwhile, the term student commonly appears as the object acted upon by the teacher-subject verbs. The teacher’s position and authority are illustrated as superior to those of students, evident in the use of the label teacher in task constructions, whereas students are referred to using the pronouns -mu and kamu (“your” and “you”). The implications of these findings for reading literacy instruction are discussed in this paper. Abstract

This study investigates how multimodal learning practices can cultivate critical and ethical information and digital literacy among university students in teacher education. Responding to growing concerns about superficial digital skills and limited attention to ethics, the research explores how a multimodal writing and digital literacy course supported students’ development beyond technical proficiency. A qualitative interpretive case study was conducted in an Indonesian university, involving one lecturer and twelve undergraduate students over a twelve-week semester. Data were generated through non-participant classroom observations, semi-structured individual and group interviews, students’ reflective journals, and multimodal artefacts such as infographics, digital essays, and video projects, and were analyzed using thematic analysis. Findings reveal three interconnected processes. First, students developed critical awareness as they interrogated source credibility, questioned visual and verbal representations, and recognized how semiotic choices shape meaning. Second, ethical reflection emerged when students engaged with issues of attribution, authorship, representation, and audience impact, gradually internalizing fairness, respect, and responsibility as part of their digital identities. Third, collaborative multimodal projects transformed learning into a shared ethical practice, fostering dialogic negotiation, empathy, and intercultural awareness. The study concludes that intentionally scaffolded multimodal pedagogy can reframe digital literacy as a social, cultural, and moral practice, offering concrete design and assessment principles for preparing reflective, responsible digital citizens in higher education.

Abstract

This study analyzes how Indonesian students construct persuasive arguments in the context of the increasing use of artificial intelligence (AI) as a writing partner. The study employed an explanatory sequential mixed methods design involving linguistic analysis of 200 persuasive texts and in-depth interviews with 20 students. Quantitative findings indicate a dominance of inductive reasoning, a weak connection between claims and evidence, and a low use of warrants and backing. Style patterns exhibit high repetition, minimal metaphors, and homogenous sentence structures consistent with AI output. Qualitative findings reveal a reliance on AI that produces surface coherence but does not strengthen argumentative logic. Synthesis of the findings resulted in the AI-Assisted Persuasive Reasoning Framework, which explains how AI enhances the mechanical aspects of writing but tends to weaken rhetorical originality and depth of reasoning. The results emphasize the need to develop persuasive writing pedagogy based on critical digital literacy so that students can utilize AI without losing their academic identity.
