Abstract

Accomplishing an assignment in academic writing course is not as easy as pie because there are many aspects that students need to follow to have an English writing with a good quality. Particularly, this study is aimed to investigate Foreign Language Anxiety (FLA) in academic writing specifically to EFL students at university level. The factors that cause the students feel anxious in English writing represent on close-ended questionnaires that the researcher asks the students to answer. In addition, the researcher does direct observation by acting as a passive observer where she has no role in conducting or helping the lecturer in teaching the writing course. In this case, what the researcher does is finding an appropriate spot in classroom in order to have a clear description regarding with ongoing process of teaching and learning of writing course of English Department students at Widya Gama Mahakam University, Samarinda, Indonesia. As a result, data analyzed by using Likert Scale indicate that High Anxiety (HA) appears to be the highest level in students’ anxiety with nine out of sixteen anxiety statements. In addition, Moderate Anxiety (MA) is also showed on the result with six out of sixteen anxiety statements. Furthermore, although Low Anxiety (LA) appears in only one out of sixteen statements, it is correlated to other facts i.e. the apprehension of working with English writing assignment under time constraint, lack of self-confidence because of inadequate capability in English language proficiency such as structural rules in English as well as an ability to relate and compare theories among experts to support their writing. Further implication for better research and lecture of English writing course in the future is also pointed out in this study.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan pencantuman label halal sebagai upaya perlindungan terhadap konsumen produk Usaha Mikro, Kecil, dan Menengah (UMKM) diharapkan dapat memberikan informasi kepada para pelaku usaha. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah yuridis normatif yaitu dengan cara menganalisa terhadap peraturan perundang-undangan tentang perlindungan konsumen dan jaminan produk halal serta peraturan terkait. Kemudian dikonsepsikan terhadap pencantuman label halal sebagai upaya perlindungan konsumen produk UMKM yang dihasilkan. Menurut Undang Undang Pangan, Undang Undang jaminan Produk halal, Undang Undang perlindungan konsumen dan Peraturan Pemerintah No.42 tahun 2024 tentang Penyelenggaraan Bidang Jaminan Produk Halal menegaskan bahwa  kewajiban mencantumkan label halal bagi produk yang telah memperoleh sertifikasi halal merupakan ketentuan yang bersifat mengikat secara hukum, didasarkan pada prinsip perlindungan konsumen, transparansi informasi, dan kepatuhan terhadap norma agama. Label halal bukan hanya simbol keagamaan, melainkan juga bagian dari sistem jaminan mutu dan keamanan pangan nasional. Ketaatan terhadap ketentuan ini merupakan tanggung jawab pelaku usaha dan bagian dari perlindungan hak konsumen Indonesia.

Abstract

The present study examines students foreign language enjoyment and anxiety when reminiscing about the mind-mapping app in the English writing class. This research uses sequential explanatory mixed method to cover quantitative and qualitative elements of students emotions in foreign language writing. Foreign language enjoyment (FLE) and foreign language classroom anxiety (FLCA) questionnaires were distributed to 122 students at two universities in Indonesia, followed by interviewing some representative students. The findings revealed that students enjoyed the use of the mind-mapping app because they thought that they were free to design their own version of mind-mapping with interesting shapes and colours. However, indications of worrying about the mind mapping they made came from fear of being embarrassed in front of their friends. Additionally, the essence of competition also drove the students to be worried in the writing class. It made them feel that other friends had better mind maps. Second, even though having a group discussion in the writing class was interesting for the students, the fear of friends stealing ideas was detected. There was also an indication that the students were concerned about their achievement in writing class. It implies that teachers need to reminisce students ideas and not give negative comments in front of the class to avoid increasing students anxiety, but build up enjoyment instead to boost their devotion to the writing class.

Abstract

Pemanfaatan batang pisang sebagai bahan baku alternatif dalam produksi kertas ramah lingkungan merupakan langkah strategis untuk mengurangi ketergantungan terhadap bahan baku kayu dan mengurangi dampak lingkungan yang ditimbulkan. Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji potensi batang pisang sebagai bahan alternatif dalam pembuatan kertas yang berkelanjutan, sejalan dengan pengembangan produk berbasis limbah alam. Melalui metode pengabdian masyarakat berupa praktik pembuatan kertas, penelitian ini juga berperan dalam meningkatkan pengetahuan dan kesadaran masyarakat tentang manfaat pemanfaatan limbah batang pisang. Kertas dari batang pisang dapat menjadi peluang bagi industri kertas yang bermanfaat untuk diproduksi dan dapat membantu meningkatkan nilai tambah ekonomi batang pisang. Hasil kegiatan ini diharapkan dapat menjadi referensi dalam pengembangan teknologi pembuatan kertas yang ramah lingkungan dan mendorong penerapan pemanfaatan limbah alam secara berkelanjutan di masyarakat.

Abstract

The research aims to improve students' communication mathematis skills through the provision of an experiment that is the application of a problem based learning approach based scaffolding in elementary school students. The research design uses Quasi Experimental design with pre-posttest design. This research was conducted in 6 classes from 3 different elementary schools in Bandung with the number of research subjects consisting of 2 classes, namely the experimental class and the control class. Experimental class getting learning with problem based learning approach based scaffolding and control class getting conventional learning. The number of subjects was 191 students with details: in the experimental class were 89 students and the control class were 102 students, each of whom was spread over 3 different elementary schools. The results showed that there was an increase in mathematical communication skills after PBL-based scaffolding compared with students taught by conventional methods, where the estimated marginal mean value in the experimental group was higher than in the control group, which was 0.318> 0.124.

Abstract

Tomat (Licopersicon esculentum Mill) mempunyai kandungan senyawa berupa karotenoid yang bernama senyawa likopen. Likopen merupakan salah satu zat pigmen kuning tua sampai merah tua yang termasuk dalam kelompok karotenoid yang bertanggungjawab terhadap warna merah pada buah tomat. Senyawa karotenoid dikenal sebagai senyawa yang mempunyai daya antioksidan tinggi sehingga senyawa ini bisa melawan radikal bebas akibat polusi serta radiasi sinar ultraviolet (UV). Pemanfaatan ekstrak buah tomat dibuat sebagai sunscreen yang dibuat dalam bentuk sediaan spray lotion yang diaplikasikan dengan cara disemprot. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode rancangan eksperimental murni yang bertujuan untuk menghasilkan sediaan spray lotion sunscreen ekstrak buah tomat yang berkualitas. Sediaan  spray lotion sunscreen ektrak buah tomat diformulasikan dalam tiga tingkat konsentrasi (5%, 10% dan 15%). Uji sediaan diamati secara sifat fisik berupa organoleptis, homogenitas, pH, viskositas, daya sebar spray, serta ukuran partikel. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya SPF dengan konsentrasi 5 % sebesar 0,202, konsentrasi 10 % 0,178, dan konsentrasi 15 % sebesar 0,014. Abstract

While previous studies have extensively examined the effectiveness of using context clues in reading comprehension through experimental designs, limited attention has been given to the use of context clues in the reading section as an element of the examination, particularly in the context of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) English Acquisition Examination in 2023. This research examines the critical role of context clues in enhancing reading comprehension, specifically within the reading section of the English Acquisition component of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP). Through a detailed analysis of context clues across three provided texts, the findings reveal a significant disparity in their distribution. The first text employs a wide range of context clues, such as definitions, punctuation, restatements, antonyms, cause and effect relationships, hints from surrounding sentences, and word formation. In contrast, the second and third texts depend on a narrower selection of context clues, which could hinder readers' capacity to understand intricate passages and fully appreciate subtle meanings. The research suggests that future studies should explore how different distributions of context clues impact specific learner outcomes and comprehension strategies, ultimately contributing to best practices in text design for educational assessments.

Abstract

This research aims to empower and identify internal (strengths and weaknesses) and external (opportunities and threats) factors influencing the empowerment of Forest Farmer Groups (FFGs) in honeybee cultivation within the Dolago Tanggung Forest Management Unit, Central Sulawesi. The study was conducted from March to May 2023, involving 45 respondents from 3 FFGs, each comprising 15 members. Qualitative descriptive analysis and SWOT analysis with IFAS and EFAS matrices were employed. The results of the internal and external factor analyses revealed strengths such as training for FFG members and financial assistance, weaknesses including limited FFG members participating in training and difficulties in securing additional funds for maintenance costs. Opportunities encompassed government support and consumer trust in products, while threats comprised weather changes and underutilization of technology for information acquisition. The SWOT analysis placed the study in Quadrant 1, indicating support for an aggressive strategy leveraging strengths to seize opportunities. Strategies suggested involve enhancing relationships among government, FFGs, and partners, boosting honey production and quality, providing regular honeybee cultivation training, utilizing agricultural and information technologies for product marketing, and employing attractive packaging to enhance consumer appeal.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat di Desa Senggreng dilaksanakan untuk menggali potensi ibu-ibu PKK dalam membangun kemandirian ekonomi melalui kewirausahaan. Permasalahan yang dihadapi adalah keterbatasan pengetahuan kewirausahaan, manajemen usaha, pemasaran digital, dan akses legalitas usaha. Untuk mengatasi hal tersebut, kegiatan ini menghadirkan tiga materi utama, yaitu penguatan jiwa kewirausahaan, strategi digital marketing, serta pentingnya Nomor Induk Berusaha (NIB) dan merek. Metode yang digunakan meliputi sosialisasi, workshop, dan pendampingan praktis, dengan fokus pada pemberdayaan masyarakat agar lebih kreatif, inovatif, serta berani mengambil peluang usaha. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa peserta memahami pentingnya jiwa kewirausahaan, mampu memanfaatkan media digital sebagai sarana promosi, serta mengetahui prosedur pengurusan NIB dan merek dagang. Melalui kegiatan ini, ibu-ibu PKK dan pelaku UKM Desa Senggreng diharapkan dapat meningkatkan kapasitas usaha, memperluas pasar, serta membangun keberlanjutan usaha kecil. Kegiatan ini sekaligus menjadi langkah awal mendorong terciptanya kemandirian ekonomi dan peningkatan kesejahteraan keluarga maupun desa.

Abstract

This research was aimed to investigate EFL students’ Self-Regulated Learning in writing. Self-Regulated Learning itself means the method that students take control in understanding of knowledge from the lecturer by conducting their own way in learning. The design of this study was quantitative with survey design to measure students’ academic self-regulation and self-regulation in writing class context. The population of this study were third semester students of English Department of University of Widya Gama Mahakam Samarinda, Indonesia, which consist of two classes with totally 37 students, who have studied English writing. Questionnaire were applied to measured two aspects; students’ academic self-regulation (77 items) and self-regulation concerning English writing subject (14 items), using Likert Scales. The result showed that 70% of students were able to motivate themselves to learn writing, do some efforts to engage the class, willingly to rehearse, elaborate and organize the lesson material by themselves, meanwhile  19% students have better self-regulation that make them conducted better effort to learn writing and accomplished better as well and 11% of them still struggle to survive in writing class. It proved by the mean of three indicator; Learning Activeness (3.18), Willingness to respond lecturer's suggestion (3.12), and  Willingness to broaden writing skill (3.27). To sum up, it can be considered that students had good enough self-regulation in writing.
