Abstract

The phenomenon of flexing or showing off one's wealth and lifestyle on social media is increasingly widespread among Indonesian teenagers. This is driven by the desire to gain social recognition and higher social status. This behavior is not only limited to the upper class, but includes all social strata who are trying to meet the demands of an up-to-date lifestyle. This research aims to examine the prevalence of flexing which is characterized by flashy displays and flaunting practices on social media by referring to related literature. The method used in this paper is a rapid literature study using the PICO (Population, Intervention, Comparison, Outcome) approach to search and select relevant studies systematically, ensuring a focused and comprehensive review. From an Islamic perspective, flexing is considered israf (excessive behavior) and is prohibited, as it encourages materialism and shifts the focus from spiritual values to worldly values. From Hindu ethics, especially the teachings of Sapta Timira, which views flexing as a form of darkness that causes individuals to forget their identity and origins, giving rise to negative social impacts. Additionally, flexing impacts people's mental health and trust, as it fosters an environment full of envy and competition. The influence of social media on flexing is enormous, with platforms such as Instagram and Facebook becoming arenas for flaunting luxury, which can lead to criminal activity, such as fraud and money laundering, as seen in the cases of binary options.

Abstract

In Indonesian education, there has been a crisis of learning and a stagnation, combined with social studies teachers' incapacity to contextualize, apply, and meaningfully make relevant social studies instruction available to students.  The Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology is reviving learning in this regard through the Independent Curriculum, which has a foundation in constructivism. This study aims to identify and explain the social construction, planning and implementation of social studies teachers in using a constructivism  approach to social studies learning. This study uses qualitative methods. The result is that the social construction of teachers at SMPN 3 and 39 Semarang City is progressing well, but there is still room for improvement. This is evident in the poorly planned and executed social studies curriculum that uses a constructivism approach. Therefore, there are variations in the design and execution of the constructivism method in the classes taught by the two instructors, even though the social studies teachers' building of the approach in both schools is suitable and competent.

Abstract

The diversity in Indonesia necessitates educators to create an environment accommodating this diversity in schools. This goal aligns with making education a means for "learning to live together," which is essential in 21st-century education. This paper employs a qualitative approach and is located at SMP Tunas Global. This study examines students' social behaviour and the process of strengthening social behaviour in diversity-based and inclusive schools. The research is conducted at SMP Tunas Global, a school known for its diversity and inclusion. Data sources include interviews with six students with special needs and typical students fromgrades 7, 8, and 9, observation notes during learning and additional activities, and student enrolment documents. Field study results indicate a tendency for role and expressive behaviours among students within the inclusive environment. However, social relationships between students with special needs and typical students do not naturally form. The limitation of parental consent for some students' condition information hampers the implementation of certain personalized programs.

Abstract

National character is a fundamental foundation for fostering nationalism among Generation Z students who grow up in a highly digitalized and globally connected environment. Continuous exposure to global information may weaken students’ awareness of national identity if not balanced by structured character education. This study aims to describe the forms of nationalism reflected in the attitudes, behaviors, and participation of Generation Z students in Indonesian senior high schools. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, the research was conducted in a public and a private senior high school. Data were collected through observations, semi-structured interviews, and document analysis involving Grade X students as primary participants, supported by teachers, school leaders, and extracurricular advisors. The data were analyzed thematically to identify patterns and contextual differences. The findings indicate that students’ nationalism is manifested through values of unity, solidarity, responsibility, independence, and willingness to contribute to collective activities. While public schools emphasize formal and periodic programs, private schools apply more contextual and daily-based practices. Overall, both contexts demonstrate the importance of national character education in sustaining students’ nationalism amid global influences. However, this study is limited by its restricted research scope, as data were collected from only two schools, which constrains the broader generalizability of the findings. In addition, the focus on Grade 10 students does not fully capture the dynamics of nationalism across all senior high school grade levels.
