Abstract

High Order Thinking Skil (HOTS) type questions have been applied to National Exams so the efforts to improve  students’ thinking skills at a higher level are continued. This research is a qualitative research which aims to describe the ability of students to solve HOTS type problems in term of the stages of Polya solving. Thus research was conducted in SMK Telkom Malang in the odd semester of 2019/2020 school year. The reasearch subjects in this article were 12th grade students on statistical material. The results of this study indicate that high ability students are able to complete all stages of problem solving polya, capable students are able to understand problems, but are less able to make plans, do the plans and look at the results. The low ability students are less able to do all of the stages in problem solving polya well.

Abstract

This research is a research and development that aims to develop learning tools such as student worksheets (LKS) and lesson plans (RPP) on the circles equation. The approach used is scientific approach with the help of Geogebra.The development is done by following 4D models of development that is only done 3 phases: define, design and development without doing disseminate phase. The quality of development products are Valid, Practical and effective. The validation is done by two validators and after validated the products were tested in the classroom to determine it’s practicality and effectiveness level. The subject of this reasearch were the two validators and 22 students of 11th grade senior high school.Keywords: circles equation, scientific approach, geogebra, learning tools

Abstract

Mathematics is not only related about how to solve problems and provide conclusions, but also as a tool to communicate ideas clearly, precisely and briefly. Through mathematical communication, the teacher can see students'abilities in solving problems. The purpose of this research is to describe the mathematical errors of reflective student communication in solving open-ended problems. The research subjects consisted of 5 students of Boyolangu 1 Junior High School who had reflective cognitive style. Data collection is done by combining the results of data of  mathematical communication test and interviews. The mathematical communication test given is related to triangles and quadrilateral material. Test results were analyzed using mathematical communication indicators, namely: (1) giving clear responses, (2) making diagrams / sketches, (3) communicating mathematical ideas effectively to others, and (4) presenting logical arguments that support answers. The results of data analysis show that students only write some of the completeness of the answers, students are completeless in writing the size of a sketch, students have not conveyed mathematical ideas using complete sentences, and students have not been able to make logical arguments to support students' answers.Keywords: Mathematical communication, reflective cognitive style, open-ended

Abstract

This study aimed to describe the analysis of problem posing students in terms of taxonomy bloom. Mathematical material that is chosen is a square and a triangle. This study used a qualitative approach with descriptive research. This study was conducted in one of the SMP Negeri Malang, with research subjects IX class consisting of 32 students. Researchers gave math tests to be analyzed based on blooms taxonomy, and researcher mengkategorisasikannya by high-level thinking skills or Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) and low-level thinking skills or Lower Order Thinking Skills (LOTS). The results of this study indicate that: (1) 96.875% of the 32 students to questions categorized remembering, understanding, and applying, therefore the students included LOTS. (2) there is one category of students including analyzing, it means the student has included HOTS.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dimaksudkan untuk mengembangkan perangkat pembelajaran matematika berbasis pendekatan saintifik untuk meningkatkan penalaran siswa pada materi peluang di SMA kelas XII yang valid, praktis, dan efektif. Model pengembangan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah model Dick and Carey. Perangkat pembelajaran yang dikembangkan berupa RPP dan LKS. RPP dan LKS disusun dengan mengacu pada pendekatan saintifik yang memuat 5M (mengamati, menanya, mengumpulkan informasi, menalar, mengomunikasikan). LKS yang disusun juga memuat langkah penalaran model Polya yaitu: 1) pengamatan terhadap suatu permasalahan, 2) perumusan dugaan dari permasalahan tersebut, 3) generalisasi, dan 4) verifikasi dugaan menggunakan permasalahan baru. Dari penelitian ini telah dihasilkan perangkat pembelajaran yang valid, praktis, dan efektif.Keywords: pendekatan saintifik, penalaran model Polya, model Dick and Carey, peluang

Abstract

This study aimed to determine: (1) which one is more effective between Computational Thinking BasedLearning (CTBL) and Problem Based Learning (PBL) on learning achievement, (2) which one is better,students with left brain dominance or students with right brain dominance, (3) for each brain dominance,which one is better between CTBL and PBL. This study used a quasi-experimental research method witha 2x2 factorial design. The population in this study were all students of class VIII SMPN 1 Bendo in theAcademic Year 2020/2021, totaling 9 classes. The research sample included 45 students (two classes) whowere taken using cluster random sampling. The instrument used was a questionnaire on the students’ braindominance and a mathematics learning outcome test. From the results of this analysis, it can be concludedthat CTBL was more effective to implement compared to PBL in odd semester class eight students at SMP1 Bendo Magetan in the Academic Year 2020/2021. There were differences in the results of mathematicslearning achievement in students who were given CTBL and PBL in terms of the brain dominance of oddsemester class eight students at SMPN 1 Bendo Magetan in the Academic Year 2020/2021.

Abstract

This study aims to determine students’ mathematical literacy skills in solving PISA mathematical problems. Mathematical literacy is the capacity of individuals to formulate, use, and interpret mathematics in various contexts. Students’ mathematical literacy skills can be seen in the way students work in solving PISA questions. This study is qualitative descriptive research. Data from the analysis of students’ mathematical literacy skills were obtained through tests in the form of descriptive questions adopted from PISA questions, analysis based on indicators of mathematical literacy skill according to PISA, and the interview results with students who worked on the PISA questions. This study shows that students’ mathematical literacy skills were in the medium to the low category; this can be seen from the percentage of students’ answer scores in working on PISA questions. Therefore, it is necessary to provide reasoning questions such as PISA questions to help students improve their mathematical literacy skills.

Abstract

Argumen matematis siswa tingkat dasar hingga sekolah menengah sering sulit dikaitkan dengan pembuktian matematis formal. Model Argumen Toulmin menawarkan suatu pendekatan untuk menganalisis argumen yang sangat berbeda dengan pendekatan logika formal. Studi ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan struktur argumentasi siswa kelas VIIIB MTsN 1 Kediri ketika menyelesaikan masalah kovariasi berdasarkan teori argumentasi Toulmin. Hasil penelitian ini mengungkapkan bahwa subjek belum memiliki struktur argumen yang lengkap. Secara umum subjek membangun argumen secara induktif. Peran “backing” menjadi esensial ketika argumen subjek didukung oleh contoh-contoh kasus yang mengantarkan pada suatu kesimpulan, sementara “qualifier” dan “rebuttal” tidak muncul pada struktur argumen mereka.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan pemahaman siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal cerita pada materi bangun ruang. Penelitian kualitatif ini dilakukan menggunakan metode deskriptif. Partisipan yaitu siswa kelas VIII di salah satu MTsN di Ponorogo yang dipilih melalui pertimbangan hasil tes dan tanggapan guru. Instrumen terdiri dari soal pemecahan masalah, pedoman wawancara, dan angket yang di validasi. Tes yang dikerjakan siswa diberi skor dan dilakukan analisis terhadap kesalahan jawaban. Angket digunakan untuk memperoleh informasi tentang tanggapan siswa dalam menyelesaikan masalah. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan sebagian besar siswa masih kesulitan mengerjakan soal cerita bangun ruang. Siswa dengan kemampuan pemecahan masalah tinggi dapat mengerjakan soal dengan benar. Siswa dengan kemampuan pemecahan masalah tinggi juga dapat menjelaskan pemahamannya terkait soal dengan baik. Siswa dengan kemampuan pemecahan masalah sedang mampu mengerjakan soal tes baik, namun dalam pengerjaannya mengalami kesalahan dalam menafsirkan informasi sehingga menyebabkan kesalahan pada penyelesaiannya. Siswa dengan kemampuan pemecahan masalah rendah cukup mengalami kesulitan dalam menyelesaikan soal tes yang diberikan.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the types of explanations made by pre-service teachers in mathematics learning. In this research, the types of explanations are used to describe the explanatory trends used by pre-service teachers in mathematics teaching. The descriptive qualitative research was chosen in this research. The research subjects are pre-service teacher as the students of Mathematics Education of PGRI Madiun University and Madura University who are studying Field Experience Practice. Of the 105 mathematics student, five students with a cumulative grade achievement of more than 3.50 were observed during the teaching practice at the school for approximately five meetings. The research data was obtained from observation, video recording, and interview. Data analysis was done through data condensation, data presentation, and conclusion/verification focused on pre-service teacher explanation on mathematics learning activity. The research findings indicate that the explanation used by the pre-service teacher in the mathematics learning starting from the most frequently used is the descriptive explanation (51,7%), giving of reason (36,2%) and interpretative (12,1%). Descriptive explanations are used to describe mathematical procedures. The type of reason-giving explanation is used to explain reasons based on mathematical principles. Furthermore, the interpretative explanation is used to explain the concepts and facts of mathematics.
