Abstract

AbstractProject-Based Learning has been recognized as an effective instructional approach for enhancing conceptual understanding and 21st-century skills in physics education. However, there is a lack of systematic bibliometric studies that map the development, trends, and research gaps in this topic. This study aims to identify research areas that have been extensively explored, as well as those that remain underexplored within PjBL in Physics Education. The method employed is descriptive with bibliometric analysis using data from Scopus, through the stages of identification, screening, eligibility, and inclusion. The analysis was conducted using Publish or Perish and VOSviewer software. From the 48 publications analyzed, it was found that the number of publications declined over the past three years, after peaking in 2021 due to the growing demand for 21st-century competency-based curricula. This decline is suspected to be related to implementation challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic. The distribution of affiliations and countries indicates that there are still institutions and nations not actively involved in this topic. Emerging research focuses, such as links to curriculum, scientific inquiry, and technology, present opportunities for further studies. The findings of this study highlight the need for expanding and deepening PjBL research in Physics Education across various national and institutional contexts.AbstrakProject-Based Learning telah dikenal sebagai pendekatan pembelajaran yang efektif untuk meningkatkan pemahaman konsep dan keterampilan abad ke-21 dalam pendidikan fisika. Abstract

The integration of 21st-century competencies, particularly critical thinking and collaboration, has become essential in physics education. However, the abstract concept of renewable energy poses learning challenges for high school students, despite its fundamental importance in physics education and relevance to sustainability. This study investigates the effectiveness of a STEM-project-based electronic worksheet (e-worksheet) designed to enhance students’ critical thinking and collaboration abilities. A quasi-experimental design with a randomized cluster sampling technique was used, involving 50 Grade X students from SMA Negeri 1 Subang. The experimental group received instruction through a renewable energy e-worksheet aligned with STEM and Project-Based Learning (PjBL) models, while the control group experienced conventional teaching. Data were collected through pre-and post-tests and questionnaires and analyzed using N-Gain and Cohen’s d-effect size. The results show high N-Gain scores in the experimental group for critical thinking (0.72) and collaboration skills (0.75), in contrast to moderate scores in the control group. This suggests a significant learning gain attributable to the integrated e-worksheet. The study's novelty lies in the integration of a renewable energy project, digital interactivity via Liveworksheets, and structured STEM-PjBL syntax, providing a holistic, engaging learning experience. The research concludes that STEM-PjBL e-worksheets are effective in promoting 21st-century competencies and can address instructional gaps in current physics education. This approach contributes to developing sustainable thinking and teamwork abilities, preparing students for future interdisciplinary challenges in science and technology

Abstract

Indonesian students' creative thinking skills, as assessed by PISA 2022, were significantly below the average. This study evaluated the implementation of problem-based learning (PBL) in supporting the development of creative thinking skills among students at SMP Negeri 2 Gamping, Yogyakarta. A qualitative approach with a case study design involved three science teachers and eighth-grade students. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and document analysis. Validity was analyzed through data triangulation (observations, interviews, and documentation) and peer discussions. The findings indicated that problem-based learning had a positive implementation, although significant challenges remained, such as insufficient planning, non-contextual teaching media, and limited scaffolding. The teachers frequently used simple investigations that did not fully encourage deep idea exploration. The assessment was predominantly summative and did not comprehensively evaluate students' creative processes. This study recommended a more structured problem-based learning approach, contextual teaching media, and process-oriented formative assessment to foster students' creativity. Further research was suggested to explore the long-term impact of this strategy and the integration of educational technology.      Keywords: contextual media, creative thinking skills, problem-based learning, science investigation, case study.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the implementation of student worksheets based on the problem-based learning model to enhance students’ mathematical representation skills and learning motivation in the topic of sound waves. Problem-based learning (PBL) makes the study of sound waves more engaging for students by emphasizing the comprehension of ideas and their application in the real world, rather than memorizing formulas. The research was conducted in Class XI of SMA Negeri 1 Godean, Yogyakarta, involving 33 students, using a quantitative approach and a pre-experimental design in the form of a one-group pretest-posttest design. The instruments used were a mathematical representation ability test and a learning motivation questionnaire. The data analysis results showed an increase in the average post-test scores compared to the pre-test. Based on the paired sample t-test, students' mathematical representation skills showed a statistically significant improvement (p < 0.001) with an N-gain score of 0.68, resulting in an increase in scores from 51 to 85. This result is supported by the effectiveness test using Cohen's d, which indicated a very large effect size (d = 2.35). Meanwhile, students' learning motivation showed a statistically non-significant increase (sig. = 0.055 > 0.05), with an N-gain score of 0.038 and a slight increase in scores from 48 to 50. Cohen's d effect size test for learning motivation fell into the small effect category (d = 0.32). Although not statistically significant, there was an indication of improved student learning outcomes after the intervention, as reflected in the mean score differences. These results show that problem-based learning models integrated into student worksheets are highly effective in enhancing students' mathematical representation abilities and raising their motivation to learn. Therefore, the implementation of problem-based learning student worksheets can serve as an effective alternative instructional strategy in physics education, particularly in improving students' cognitive aspects. Further research with a more extended implementation period and a more comprehensive approach is recommended to optimize the impact on affective aspects.   Keywords: problem-based learning, student worksheet, mathematical representation, learning motivation, sound waves.
