Abstract

One of the problems for phosphate fertilizing in ultisol soil is Al and Fe bounding and could be overcome by phosphate solubilizing bacteria activity. This study aimed to obtain the best dose of phosphate fertilizer with phosphate solubilizing bacteria for the production of upland rice seeds of the UBB1 PBM variety (Bangka Belitung University red rice 1) and its effect on seed quality. The research was carried out at the Research and Experimental Gardens – Faculty of Agriculture, Fisheries and Biology, University of Bangka Belitung, from August to December 2020. The design used was a split plot design, the main plot was phosphate solubilizing bacteria (treatment and control), and the subplots were fertilizers. phosphate (P1– quarter dose, P2– half dose, P2–three-quarter dose, P4– full dose). Seeds produced in the field were tested in the laboratory for viability and vigor. In the field, phosphate solubilizing bacteria (Burkholderia sp) can replace half the dose of phosphate fertilizer. This was indicated by the seed weight of plant-1 which did not differ between full dose + control and half dose + treatment. This fact was also identified in the viability and vigor of the seeds in laboratory testing. There was no significant difference in germination rate and vigor index between the two treatments. This finding shows that phosphate solubilizing bacteria can be applied for efficiency of phosphate fertilization and guaranteeing seed production and seed quality

Abstract

Celery (Apium graveolens L.) is an annual plant that grows optimally in Indonesia’s highlands. The provision of endophytic bacteria has the role of plant protection, increasing agronomic growth and plant physiology, and overcoming environmental stresses. This study aims to assist the adaptation of highland celery varieties in the lowlands due to the decreasing agricultural highland and increase their production with endophytic bacteria applications. The experiment was executed in Bogor, Indonesia using a randomized block design with two factors. The celery variety served as the first factor [Amigo and Aroma (highland variety), and Summer Green (lowland variety)], and endophytic bacteria was the second factor (control, APE35, a combination of APE35+BAT, APE35+BAT+EQ26, and the PTM3 consortium). The result showed that endophytic bacteria helped the plants to adjust growth from highland to lowlands and increase yield. In lowland, Amigo showed shorter in height but it has a significantly higher stalk number, carotenoids, and flavonoids than Summer Green (lowland control). Endophytic bacteria increased plant growth, N, P, pigments, and flavonoids. APE35 or PTM3 with Amigo produced significantly higher leaf area, number of tillers, number of leaflets, leaf area, head fresh weight (78.529 and 75.054 g/plant), total fresh weight (81.67 and 85.395 g/plant), and total flavonoids (1484.818 and 1502.459 mg QE/100 g) than Summer Green without endophytic bacteria.

Abstract

Endophytic bacteria have gained attention due to their interesting features related to plant growth and health stimulation. The objective of this research was to determine the populations and spectrum of indigenous root endophytic bacteria from tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum) and the biocontrol activity of the bacteria for plant protection. The isolation procedure of these endophytic bacteria was done using surface-sterilization method using alcohol and sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl). General medium trypsic soy agar (TSA) was used as the growth medium for isolation. The total population density of endophytic bacteria recovered from tomato roots ranged from 1.0 to 4.4 (in log10  scale) CFU g-1 fresh root weight. A total of 564 strains of endophytic bacteria were isolated from tomato plants grown in West Java, Indonesia. Endophytic bacterial strains were identified based on their fatty acid profile using FAME-GC-MIDI system. Fifty species and 32 genera of endophytic bacteria were found in association with tomato root. The most abundant endophytic bacterial genera were Bacillus spp. and Pseudomonas spp. One hundred and eighty one  bacterial strains were tested for their in vitro antagonism towards Rhizoctonia solani, Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. radicis-lycopersici, and F. oxysporum f.sp. lycopersici. Fourteen strains showed antagonism against R. solani, nine strains against F. oxysporum f.sp. radicis-lycopersici and seven strains against F. oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici. The close relationship between endophytic bacteria and their hosts make them ideal candidates for biological control and plant growth promotion.

Abstract

Bacteria live in wild in form of a consortium. Use of microbial consortium tends to give better results than single isolate, because the action of enzyme of each type of microbe can complement each other in order to survive. This study aimed to study the effectiveness of bacterial endophytic consortium from coffee plant on plant growth and mortality of parasitic nematodes in coffee. Isolation of bacteria is conducted  by growing the crushed roots, stems and leaves of coffee on 20% TSA media, then testing their hemolysis and hypersensitivity reaction. Selected isolates were tested on their effect on the growth of seedling and Pratylenchus coffeae mortality, as well as their chitinolytic, proteolytic, lipolytic, HCN production, dissolution of phosphate (P) and fixation of nitrogen (N2) abilities. The results showed that from 27 isolates of the consortium, 23 isolates showed negative reaction to hypersensitive test and 9 isolates to hemolysis test. The highest mortality rate was shown by K6 isolate (65.8%). The highest growth was shown by K15 and K 21 isolates while the highest root length by K21 isolate. Further analisys showed that 100% of the isolates could hydrolyze proteases, lipid, and produce HCN, while chitinolytic activity was shown by 78% isolates which could fix N2 and 11% of isolates could dissolve phosphate.

Abstract

Abstract

In the industrial world, every industrial company wants to get maximum profit. One way to increase profits is to minimize distribution costs. PT Jasa Harapan Barat is one of the bottled beverage distributor companies Cap Badak which is not only known in the city of Pematang Siantar, but throughout North Sumatra, even outside North Sumatra. So, the right minimum trajectory is needed so that distribution becomes faster. This minimum path problem is included in the Traveling Salesmen Problem (TSP). One way to solve TSP is by using the Branch and Bound algorithm. With data obtained from interviews and direct observations, it was obtained that solving TSP with the Branch and Bound algorithm obtained minimum paths and the total minimum path was 25.49 km. The search for the minimum path is done with the help of WINQSB software, where the length of the path of each distributing vertex is taken from google maps. And if you apply the Branch and Bound Algorithm to solve the Traveling Salesman Problem at PT Jasa Harapan Barat, the distribution cost will be cheaper for Rp. 15,093 for each distribution of Cap Badak drinks.

Abstract

Indonesia is entering a period of demographic bonus with the lowest projected dependency ratio in 2030. This bonus is expected to accelerate the development of various sectors. However, the increase in the number of elderly people, which reached 9.78% in 2020, signifies the potential of the ageing population era. Special handling is needed to avoid negative impacts on development and the risk of elderly poverty. This study uses a survey of 300 elderly people and binary logistic regression analysis to evaluate the factors that influence elderly poverty. The results showed that education, working status, area of residence, marital status, and social security had a significant effect, while functional impairment did not. Recommendations include improving access to education and equitable distribution of elderly social security programmes across Indonesia.
