Abstract

This study examines the use of children's names as the identity of public business spaces from the perspective of anthroponymy and linguistic landscape in Palangka Raya City. The phenomenon of the use of children's names on shop signs, stalls, restaurants, salons, kiosks, and micro-businesses indicates a relationship between language, family identity, and the socio-economic strategies of local communities. This study aims to describe the use of children's names in public business spaces, explain the social and symbolic meanings behind the choice of these names, and analyze the identity functions that emerge in the urban linguistic landscape. The study used a descriptive qualitative approach with observation, documentation, and interviews with business owners. Data in the form of photos of business signs and interview results were analyzed using linguistic landscape and anthroponymy theories. The results show that the use of children's names in public business spaces not only functions as a business identity marker, but also represents emotional values, family pride, future hopes, and business personalization strategies. Children's names become symbols of social closeness that build emotional relationships between business owners and the community. This study shows that the linguistic landscape is not only a visual space of language, but also a space representing family identity and local culture in the economic context of urban communities.
