Abstract

This study focuses on what strategies are used to reduce the negative impact of using heuristics in decision making. This study aims to examine in depth the relevant strategies that can be used to reduce heuristic bias in investment decision making, especially among individual investors. Qualitative research method with a case study approach, research data was collected using purposive sampling technique on individual investors who actively invest in the capital market, either through stocks or digital platforms such as online mutual funds and trading applications. The research findings consist of one main theme that is in accordance with the focus of the research, namely strategies to overcome heuristic bias, which includes four sub-themes consisting of systematic evaluation and planning, application of practical strategies and self-discipline, use of guidelines for consistency and objectivity, and training to increase awareness and self-control. The findings contribute to the literature in behavioral finance and financial psychology, especially by expanding the understanding of the self-control mechanisms used by investors in responding to cognitive biases. These findings also support and strengthen prospect theory by adding dimensions of contextual and individual control strategies in responding to investment risk and uncertainty.

Abstract

This study explores the pragmatic phenomena of presupposition and entailment in Molly Wright’s TED Talk, “How Every Child Can Thrive by Five.” Despite her young age, Wright employs advanced pragmatic strategies typically found in adult discourse. Using a qualitative case study approach, the speech was transcribed and analyzed with reference to frameworks by Stephen Levinson and Louise Cummings. The analysis identifies various types of presupposition existential, factive, lexical, structural, counterfactual, and non-factiv ussed to create shared assumptions and enhance message clarity. Entailment is employed to build logical connections and subtly guide audience interpretation. These devices contribute to the speech’s persuasive appeal, emotional resonance, and communicative effectiveness. Rather than directly instructing, Wright fosters reflection by embedding assumptions and cause-effect structures that reduce cognitive load and promote engagement. The findings underscore the strategic use of implicit meaning in persuasive discourse, illustrating that effective communication depends not on age but on the intentional use of language. This research highlights children's potential in formal speech settings and the power of pragmatics in shaping public understanding.

Abstract

Abstract

This research investigates the role of short-term memory (STM) in the comprehension of spoken language from a psycholinguistic perspective. Anchored in the theoretical frameworks of Alvarez & Cavanagh (2004), Norris (2017), and Jonides et al. (2008), the study explores how impairments in STM disrupt verbal processing, including the ability to retain, decode, and respond to linguistic input in real time. The analysis centers on Dory, a fictional character in Pixar’s Finding Dory (2016), who is depicted as experiencing persistent short-term memory loss. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach and narrative analysis, twenty scenes were selected to examine manifestations of memory-related language breakdowns in naturalistic conversational contexts. The findings reveal consistent disruptions in Dory’s verbal interactions, particularly in turn-taking, following instructions, and interpreting social cues—phenomena that align with contemporary models of STM as a distinct cognitive system from long-term memory. While emotionally salient information is occasionally retained, the character’s inability to maintain immediate verbal context leads to confusion and emotional distress. These results underscore both the linguistic and psychosocial consequences of STM deficits. By integrating psycholinguistic theory with narrative media, the study provides accessible insight into cognitive-linguistic disorders. Future research should explore real-world populations to substantiate these findings and inform educational or clinical interventions.

Abstract

Rapid advancements in technology related to the fourth industrial revolution have transformed the way financial transactions are conducted, shifting from conventional cash methods to digital finance, also known as fintech. Despite this shift, the adoption of fintech is inconsistent, especially among students, who are an important group for promoting financial inclusion and literacy. This study aims to fill the existing gap by investigating the specific elements that influence fintech adoption among Economics Education students in Java, using the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) as a framework. An explanatory quantitative investigation involving 350 students from three accredited universities shows that attitudes, social factors, and digital financial literacy play an important role in shaping students' intentions to use fintech. Importantly, digital financial literacy stands out as a crucial element, both directly and indirectly encouraging responsible financial practices and the adoption of fintech. The originality of this research lies in its examination of the relationship between education and the use of fintech, emphasizing the importance of digital financial literacy in influencing students' financial actions in an increasingly digital economy.

Abstract

This research explores various factors that influence the decision of young people in Ponorogo who prefer to work abroad as Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) rather than continuing their education and how the family's economic conditions influence the choice to work overseas rather than continuing their education. This research took a qualitative approach with a grounded research design conducted in Pondok Village, Babadan District, Ponorogo Regency. Data was collected by observation and interviews with informants as many as 10 PMI children with ages ranging from 6-20 years. The data was then analyzed descriptively and qualitatively. The research results show that changes in economic activities give rise to a welfare dilemma for young people in Ponorogo who want to become migrant workers rather than continue their education. These results provide valuable insight into the factors that encourage individuals to choose to work abroad rather than continue their education and provide input for better policies to support the education and economic well-being of families in the region.

The data were analyzed using a path analysis model to test the relationship between the variables studied. This study also adopted a cross-sectional design to see the relationship between variables at a certain point in time. The results show that entrepreneurial knowledge does not have a direct impact on e-business entrepreneurial intention, but it has an indirect effect through self-confidence and digital literacy. In conclusion, increasing self-confidence and digital literacy is very important to encourage entrepreneurial intention, while entrepreneurial knowledge needs to be supported by students' psychological factors and digital capabilities.
