Abstract

Skin diseases such as scabies continue to pose significant health issues within pesantren (Islamic boarding schools) due to inadequate sanitation and low awareness among students regarding personal higiene. Scabies is highly contagious, transmitted through direct contact and the sharing of personal items. Therefore, there is a need for interventions, specifically educational programs, to enhance knowledge and awareness about sanitation and the prevention of scabies in pesantren. This activity aims to improve students understanding of environmental sanitation, personal higiene, and the prevention and control of scabies through educational outreach activities. This initiative was conducted using outreach and practical training methods for students at Pondok Pesantren Al Amin, Lamongan. Evaluation involved pre-tests and post-tests, comparing the results to measure the increase in participants' knowledge. The results was a noticeable improvement in students' knowledge, with the average score increasing from 84.1% on the pre-test to 91.6% on the post-test concerning personal higiene and environmental sanitation at the pesantren (p-value = 0.000). This educational activity successfully enhanced students' understanding of sanitation and health in the pesantren setting. Further approaches are necessary for the prevention and transmission of scabies.

Abstract

ABSTRAK  Dalam era industrialisasi yang pesat, perusahaan menghadapi tantangan besar dalam pengelolaan limbah. Pengolahan limbah harus mengikuti baku mutu agar tidak merusak lingkungan. PT PLN Nusantara Power UP Paiton Unit 1 dan 2 menggunakan Metal Cleaning Wastewater Treatment Plant (MCWWTP) untuk mengolah air limbah dari proses produksi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan gambaran proses pengolahan air limbah pada inlet dan outlet MCWWTP. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif untuk menggambarkan pengolahan air limbah yang berasal dari unit produksi dengan MCWWTP di PT PLN Nusantara Power UP Paiton Unit 1 & 2. Pengolahan air limbah melalui beberapa tahapan dari primary pond hingga pembuangan ke laut. Hasil analisis uji lab pada outlet MCWWTP dari triwulan 3 tahun 2023 hingga triwulan 2 tahun 2024 menunjukkan bahwa air limbah yang diolah layak dibuang ke laut karena sudah memenuhi baku mutu sesuai Keputusan Menteri Lingkungan Hidup dan Kehutanan No SK.534/ Menlhk/ Setjen/ PLA.4/ 5/ 2023. Removal efficiency pada setiap parameter masih belum sepenuhnya efisien dan masih terdapat nilai negatif pada beberapa bulan  Kata kunci: air limbah, metal cleaning wastewater treatment plant, pengolahan limbah   ABSTRACT  In the era of rapid industrialization, companies across various sectors face significant challenges in waste management. Waste treatment must be conducted according to applicable quality standards to avoid causing environmental damage. PT. PLN Nusantara Power UP Paiton Units 1 and 2 use a Metal Cleaning Wastewater Treatment Plant to treat wastewater generated from production processes. This study seeks to present an overview of the wastewater treatment process at the Metal Cleaning Wastewater Treatment Plant (MCWWTP) and to analyze the results of wastewater testing at the plant's inlet and outlet. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach to describe the liquid waste treatment process from the production unit using the Metal Cleaning Wastewater Treatment Plant (MCWWTP) at PT PLN Nusantara Power Paiton Generating Unit 1 & 2. The wastewater from the production process is treated through several stages, from the main pond before being released into the ocean. Data analysis of the laboratory test results for wastewater at the outlet of the Metal Cleaning Wastewater Treatment Plant (MCWWTP) from 2023's third quarter until 2024's second quarter indicates that the treated wastewater is suitable for discharge into the sea, as it meets the applicable quality standards. Abstract

Indonesia has the third highest prevalence of stunting in Southeast Asia. One of the main factors is poor environmental hygiene and sanitation, which causes infections and impaired nutrient absorption in children under five. Inadequate sanitation and poor water quality increase the risk of stunting. In Silir Village, Wates Sub-district, there were 18 cases of stunting in December 2023. To address this, a holistic approach is needed, including the implementation of the 5 Pillars of Community-Based Total Sanitation (STBM). The community service was conducted in three stages: preparation, implementation, and evaluation. Activities included water quality checks (all water samples contained E.coli), hygiene education, sanitation inspections, and assistance with water, waste, and liquid waste management. Education related to stunting and environmental conditions was conducted, along with a pre-test and post-test that showed an increase in the average score from 69.9 to 73.1. Further intervention is needed to improve the bacteriological quality of drinking water in the homes of stunted toddlers in Silir Village.

Abstract

Salah satu upaya dalam penanganan limbah adalah pengolahan limbah menjadi suatu produk yang bisa dimanfaatkan. Seperti halnya program inovasi pemanfaatan limbah silicaver calsium menjadi beton pracetak yang dilakukan oleh PT PLN Nusantara Power UP Paiton, merupakan terobosan yang diharapkan bisa bermanfaat bagi lingkungan. Timbulan limbah jika tidak ditangani bisa mengganggu lingkungan dan kesehatan. Sebelumnya limbah silicaver calsium yang dihasilkan dari proses pemeliharaan pembangkit listrik tidak termanfaatkan, sehingga menumpuk sebanyak 5250 kg pada periode tahun 2018-2023. Perusahaan mampu mengurangi jumlah timbulan limbah dan memberikan dampak postifi kepada masyarakat sekitar melalui program inovasi ini. Hasil uji beton pracetak memenuhi standar SNI 7833:2012 tentang tata cara perancangan beton pracetak dan beton prategang untuk bangunan gedung, sehingga dapat digunakan sebagai bahan konstruksi bangunan. Program inovasi pemanfaatan limbah silicaver calsium menjadi beton pracetak juga mendukung UMKM yang memroduksi beton pracetak sekitar dalam produksi beton pracetak yang lebih ramah lingkungan dan efisien. Program yang dilakukan oleh PT PLN Nusantara Power UP Paiton berperan dalam pengelolaan limbah yang efisien serta dapat memberikan dampak positif terhadap masyarakat sekitar

Abstract

Household organic waste management remains a challenge at the community level due to low awareness, skills, and available facilities. This community service program aims to improve the knowledge and skills of Kertosari Village residents in managing organic waste using the Takakura Compost method. The activity was carried out in January 2025 with activities such as education, direct practice, monitoring, and evaluation involving 34 participants. The pre-test results showed that 44.1% of participants received a perfect score, an increase of 64.7% in the post-test after the education and direct practice. In addition, 29.41% of participants began to apply the Takakura method at home collectively. The resulting compost had an average weight of 296.67 grams from 1000 grams of starting material and met the maturity indicators according to the SNI for household compost. These findings indicate that a practice-based educational approach can encourage changes in community behavior in independent waste management.

Abstract

Stunting is a serious nutritional problem that requires immediate attention. In Malaka Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province, the prevalence of stunting remains high due to poor sanitation and ineffective organic waste management. This community service program aims to increase public awareness and skills in utilizing organic waste to produce eco-enzyme and its derivatives, such as eco-enzyme-based liquid soap. The program was conducted from July to November 2025, involving 33 participants representing local government, community leaders, and informal community figures. The activity explained the relationship between sanitation and stunting through discussions and demonstrations on producing eco-enzyme from household organic waste. Evaluation through pre- and post-tests showed a significant increase in participants’ knowledge of sanitation, stunting, and organic waste management. Community-based education on eco-enzyme has proven to support food security and environmental health while contributing to reducing the risk of stunting.

Abstract

Environmental health and personal hygiene are important aspects in improving the quality of life of the community. Indhotun Nasyi'in Islamic Boarding School in Lamongan is an Islamic educational institution that functions to build the character and awareness of students about the importance of environmental health and personal hygiene. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct education to increase students' awareness and knowledge about environmental sanitation and personal hygiene. An educational and participatory approach, using posters, was used to increase students' knowledge. The average age of participants was 14.46±1.456 years, 63% were female, 67% were students in grades 7 and 8, and 84% were from Lamongan. There was a significant increase in students' knowledge (p-value 0.001) after receiving education. The average score of students increased, from 8.22 in the pre-test to 9.04 in the post-test. This program also successfully identified that most students did not understand the concept of waste management based on the 4R principle, namely Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Replace. Therefore, the community service team plans follow-up activities to develop habits that can be applied in the students' daily lives.

Abstract

Hypertension is a non-communicable disease (NCD) with a high prevalence and remains a major health problem in Kertosari Village, Ponorogo Regency. According to the 2024 Ponkesdes report, hypertension is recorded as the most common case, indicating the need for simple and community-acceptable promotive and preventive efforts. To address this issue, the Gemarsari Program: Gerakan Masyarakat Kertosari Sehat dan Mandiri was implemented, focusing on increasing physical activity and raising community awareness in hypertension prevention. The activities included blood pressure measurement, 30 minutes of healthy exercise, and a follow-up blood pressure check after physical activity. The program was conducted on January 22 and 29, 2025, at the Kertosari Village Hall with 34 participants. Data were analyzed descriptively and quantitatively by comparing the mean blood pressure before and after the exercise. The results showed a reduction in average blood pressure from 139.44 mmHg to 135.15 mmHg. Thus, the Gemarsari Program proved effective as a simple community-based intervention to reduce blood pressure and promote a healthier lifestyle.

Abstract

Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) merupakan instalasi pengelolaan limbah cair domestik yang bertujuan untuk mengurangi kontaminan pada air buangan hasil kegiatan sehingga layak untuk dilepaskan ke badan air dan tidak menyebabkan kontaminasi lingkungan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji proses pengolahan limbah cair domestik, pemantauan dan pemeliharaan, serta hasil uji pengukuran parameter kualitas air limbah pada Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) di PT PLN Nusantara Unit Pembangkitan Paiton Unit 1 dan 2. Metode penelitian kualitatif deskriptif digunakan dalam penelitian artikel ini. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di PT PLN Nusantara Unit Pembangkitan Paiton Unit 1&2 pada bulan Juli sampai Agustus 2024. Pengolahan limbah cair domestik melewati beberapa proses, diantaranya bak equalisasi, bak aerasi, bak pengendapan, bak filtrasi, dan bak effluent sebelum dibuang ke outfall. Pemantauan STP dilakukan dengan memonitoring secara visual ketinggian air pada bak equalisasi, blower, dan stok desinfektan dan memantau kualitas air sisa hasil kegiatan domestik yang dilepaskan ke laut. Selama setahun, limbah cair domestik yang dilepaskan ke laut telah memenuhi baku mutu yang telah ditetapkan. STP terbukti efektif dalam menjaga kadar mutu air limbah sehingga tidak pernah melebihi dari baku mutu lingkungan. Selanjutnya perlu dilakukan pengembangan lebih lanjut dapat meningkatkan efisiensi dan keberlanjutan sistem pengolahan limbah di masa mendatang.
