Abstract

Discovery of Pawon Man provide valuable insights into the region's history. Despite various studies conducted, there is a notable lack of comprehensive identification and systematic review of Pawon Man's teeth. This study aims to map the development of research on Pawon Man in the field of forensic odontology, which contributes to the understanding of human history in West Java. The method used is descriptive analysis, examining technology applied in research by analysing relevant references from 2012 to 2024. 3D Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) was the method used in 16 studies due to its non-destructive and high accuracy. Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) provided in-depth insights into dental calculus, revealing information about ancient health and dietary practices. In a review of 33 articles, the study also highlighted age estimation as a crucial aspect of biological profiling. Despite extensive research, there are still variables that require further investigation, including accuracy in age estimation and contributing factors to the absence of dental caries. Interdisciplinary collaboration is essential to address these issues and enrich the understanding of Pawon Man. Future studies should prioritise interdisciplinary approaches and the use of advanced technology.

Abstract

According to Riskesdas data, menarche among adolescents aged 10–19 years typically occurs at age 12 (42.8%), age 15 (96.2%), and age 18 (99.6%). Many adolescents experience anxiety during their first menstruation due to a lack of knowledge, leaving them psychologically, mentally, and emotionally unprepared for the bodily changes. In today’s digital era, there is a growing need for accessible educational tools that provide accurate information about menstruation. To address this, an application called “Permen” (short for *Persiapan Menarche*) was developed to help adolescent girls prepare for their first menstruation anytime and anywhere. The aim of this study was to design a mobile-based menarche preparation application using the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) method. The SDLC model applied was the waterfall model, which follows a structured, step-by-step approach in software development. The research successfully resulted in the creation of the “Permen” application, which has undergone both black box testing and expert validation. The application provides comprehensive and age-appropriate information about menarche, helping reduce anxiety and increase awareness among adolescent girls. In conclusion, the “Permen” application serves as a practical educational tool to support young girls during the transition of puberty by improving their readiness and understanding of menstruation.

Abstract

Introduction: Malaysia is situated in the southeast region of the Asian continent. Oral health services became prominent in the 1970s as programs related to oral health care were gradually introduced in schools. Various national epidemiological surveys were done to assess the prevalence of dental caries among children in Malaysia. This study was aimed to find out the DMF-t index level among school children based on their parents’ socioeconomic status by collecting consideration of education level and income of the fathers. Methods: This descriptive research with the survey technique was conducted at SJK (T) Klebang, Chemor, Perak, Malaysia. The DMF-t index of children in SJK (T) Klebang, Chemor, Perak was 0.2. Based on the questionnaire, the majority of fathers in Chemor, Perak were in the upper secondary education level with income ranging from RM 500 – RM 1000. Results: The Malaysian Oral Health Survey on 5-years old children showed that the caries prevalence was 75.5%. The mean of DMF-t was 5.57. An oral epidemiological study showed that 95.4% of 6-years old children in Peninsular Malaysia had carious primary teeth. This figure dropped to 88.6% in 1988, and by 1997 a further reduction to 80.6% was reported. DMF-t index consisted of the total number of Decayed, Missing and Filled teeth as well as a questionnaire on the socioeconomic background of the parents. Conclusion: The DMF-t Index of children in SJK (T) Klebang based on their father’s socioeconomic status is within the range of “Very Low” based on the DMF-t Index Scale.

Abstract

Introduction: Caries risk assessment is an effort performed to determine the causes of dental caries and the caries risk of the children. The purpose of the study was to determine the caries risk of pre-school children and the possible preventive home-treatment in reducing the risk. Methods: This research was descriptive with sampling method used was the total sampling technique. Data were collected using the Irene’s Donuts caries risk form to determine the caries risk and preventive treatment of the children. Caries risk assessment data was presented in the form of frequency distribution tables. Results: The first-year research resulted as follows: distribution of caries risk frequency based on the interview conducted towards the parents in Ulul Azmi and Amanah Kindergarten, regarding their education, age, children’s habits, showed that the highest risk (88.9%) in both kindergartens was found in children who still drink milk with pacifier bottles until more than four-years-old. The second highest risk amongst Ulul Azmi Kindergarten students (88.9%) was found in children with daily candy consumption; the highest risk amongst Arroyyan Kindergarten (90%) was tooth decay which considered not interfering the children’s development with the pH level below 6.5. Regarding the treatment choice of the students, the most choices taken amongst Ulul Azmi Kindergarten parents were helping their children brush their teeth at night before bedtime; assuring the children’s sufficient water consumption in Amanah Kindergarten parents; assuring the children’s vegetable and fruits contained menu in Arroyyan Kindergarten parents. Conclusion: The highest caries risk of pre-school children is tooth decay, with the possible preventive home-treatment, were helping the children to brush their teeth at night before bedtime, assuring the children’s sufficient water consumption, and assuring the children’s vegetable and fruits contained menu.
