Abstract

UV-Vis spectrophotometry and HPLC are commonly used for the analysis of hydroquinone and retinoic acid, as both instruments offer a combination of accuracy, sensitivity, and ease in detecting and quantifying these compounds. UV-Vis is quick and simple to detect the content of materials based on light absorption, while HPLC is superior in separating and analyzing compounds in complex mixtures with high precision. The purpose of this literature review is to compare UV-Vis Spectrophotometry and HPLC methods for analyzing hydroquinone and retinoic acid, and a comparison was performed by examining method validation data between UV-Vis spectrophotometry and HPLC. The method applied involves a review of various related research journals, utilizing the Publish or Perish application using the Google Scholar and Semantic Scholar search engines. The results and conclusions of this study recommend HPLC as the method of choice for the identification of harmful substances, such as retinoic acid and hydroquinone, in face creams. Keywords: retinoic acid, hydroquinone, face cream, uv-vis spectrophotometry, HPLC

Abstract

Chalcone compounds are aromatic ketones and enones that have been found to have several activities, such as antimalarial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anticancer, antiviral, anti-HIV, antifungal, antihyperglycemic, and carboxygenase inhibitors. A ligand's bioactivity can be predicted through in-silico tests using molecular docking. Molecular docking studies are conducted to study the interaction between ligand and receptor and identify the receptor's active site that matches the ligand when the ligand and receptor bind in a stable complex. This study can be a preliminary test before conducting in vitro and in vivo tests. This narrative review aims to analyze information on the bioactivity of chalcone-derived compounds and their derivatives through an in silico molecular docking approach in the form of binding affinity values and amino acid residues that bind. The method used is a literature study of 13 research articles found through the Semantic Scholar and Springer Link databases. The review results showed that the new compounds derived from chalcone compounds have a good range of bioactivity, as seen from the binding affinity values, which show lower values when compared to other test ligands and referenced ligands. The functional groups that have an important role in the interaction between ligands and proteins between ligands and receptors are triazole, methoxy, amine, halogen, carbonyl, hydroxyl, and thiol groups bound to the reactive structure of the α,β unsaturated ketone aromatic ring in the structure of the chalcone compound. The compounds that show promising activity can be further investigated as new drug candidates.

Abstract

Correspondence analysis has been widely applied in various fields as a graphical method to depict the association structure between two categorical random variables on a low-dimensional plot. This study built a simple algorithm to determine the principal coordinates and construct the circular confidence regions on the correspondence plot. In this algorithm, the determination of the standard residual matrix and the principal coordinates is built directly from the contingency table (without calculating a correspondence matrix). The algorithm was developed using R and applied to data on Covid-19 cases in West Java.

Abstract

Diazinon is a commonly used organophosphate insecticide in agriculture, but its persistence in water and soil presents significant health and environmental concerns. This study investigates the photocatalytic removal of diazinon from aqueous solutions using zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles activated by visible light irradiation. ZnO was chosen due to its excellent photocatalytic properties, including a direct band gap (~3.1 eV), strong oxidative capability, chemical stability, and non-toxic nature, making it a superior candidate for visible-light-driven environmental remediation. Photocatalytic degradation under sunlight was also assessed for comparison. Key operational parameters, such as photocatalyst dosage, solution pH, initial diazinon concentration, and irradiation time, were systematically optimized. The highest degradation efficiency degradation was achieved with 20 mg of ZnO, neutral pH, 30 mg/L an initial concentration, and 60 minutes of irradiation. Kinetic analysis revealed that the process followed zero-order reaction kinetics (k = 1.118; R2 = 0.9962). Notably, visible light irradiation was more effective than sunlight in degrading diazinon. These findings provide important details about the potential of ZnO nanoparticles as an efficient, low-cost, and environmentally friendly photocatalyst for remediating pesticide-contaminated water under sustainable energy conditions.
