Abstract

ABSTRACTThis study aims to obtain bio surfactant-producing bacteria originating from the IPAL pond sludge of the palm oil industry at PT. Eka Dura Indonesia, Ujung Batu, Rokan Hulu, Riau Province. This research uses the survey method. Sludge samples are taken from the Contact pond by using a sample bottle, then put into a cooler, and taken to the laboratory. Next, 5 grams of sludge sample was weighed and the dissolution of the sample was carried out using BPS (Buffer Phosphate Saline) media. Furthermore, this sample was enriched with BHI (Brain Heart Infusion) media, then incubated for 24 hours. Furthermore, this sample was diluted using 0.98% NaCl to 10-6 dilution, and counted the number of bacteria growing, using Petrifilm at 10-4, 10-5 and 10-6 dilution. Then the planting and purification of bacteria were carried out using Blood Agar and MacConkey Agar. Then, it was identified using biochemical tests and PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) tests. The results found 2 types of bacterial isolates with 2 species producing bio surfactants, Proteus mirabilis, and Enterobacter aerogenes. The DNA rank of the bacterial species that has the highest Emulsification Index, which is 100% Proteus mirabilis.Keywords: Oil contamination, Biochemical Test, PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) Test, Proteus mirabilis and Enterobacter aerogenes

Abstract

Industrial rubber waste liquid is one of environmental issues that shall be handled as it is commonly discharged and potentially contaminate aquatic environment. This waste contain high organic material and it need to be processed. To understand the effectiveness of combination of plastic bottle biofilter media and emergent aquatic plant for remediation of that waste, a study has been conducted from December 2014 to March 2015. The waste was processed through plastic bottle biofilter media and then flown to phytoremediation unit that was completed with Limmnocharis flava and Echinodorus palaefoliu. The processed waste was then used to rear Cyprinus carpio, Pangasius pangasius and Oreochromis niloticus seeds, 20 fishes/ aquarium (15 L). Water samplings were conducted 3 times, once/ 2 weeks. The water was taken from 5 sampling points, they were in the inlet and in the outlets of the 1st biofilter, 1st phytoremediation, 2nd biofilter and 2ndphytoremediation units. Survival rate of the fish by the end of the research was noted. Results shown that the use of plastic bottle biofilter media and emergent plant phytoremediation process was effective to reduce the organic pollutant. Before being treated, the BOD and COD were 260 mg/L and 400 mg/L respectively. After being treated, the BOD reduced into 28 mg/L and the COD reduced into 60 mg/L. The effectiveness of the processor was 85% for the BOD and 80% for the COD. By the end of the research, survival rate of the fish was ranged from 90% - 100%. Based on data obtained, it can be concluded that the use of plastic bottle and emergent plant is effective for reducing organic materials in rubber industry waste water.Keywords : Plastic bottle, Limmnocharis flava, Echinodorus palaefoliu, Industrial rubber waste liquid

Abstract

AbstractLaundry liquid waste is rich in TSS and TDS. Efforts to reduce the level of TSS and  TDS can be conducted by using biofilter. To understand the effect of  plastic bottle biofilter media with different amountsto reduce the TSS and TDS the laundry liquid waste, a research has been done in October-December 2019. There were 3 treatments applied, namely the number of bottles 25 (P1), 50 (P2) and  75 (P3) in anaerobic reactors with 3 replications in each treatments. Each anaerobic reactor contains a series of modified plastic bottles. The seeding time of the biofilm was 30 days and the retention time of the water was 8 hours. The effectiveness of TSS decrement was 61.7%, 73.8% dan 83.5% in P1, P2, and P3 respectively. While the effectiveness of TDS decrement was 47.1%, 61.3% and 72.1%. in P1, P2, and P3 respectively. Based on this research, it could be concluded that the of  plastic bottle biofilter media with different was able to reduce of TSS dan TDS in the laundry liquid waste. And plastic bottle media with different show a real different decreament of those parameters. Keywords: wastewater, detergent,contaminant, continue system,bacteria.

Abstract

ABSTRACTIn the bioflock system intensive aquaculture, the waste was removed everyday. The waste contain high concentration of nitrate and phosphate.  Effort in reducing those organic matters can be done by usingChlorella sp.   A study aims to determine the effectiveness of Chlorella sp. in decreasing nitrate and phosphate concentration in thewaste was conducted in August 2019. There was a CRD method with 4 treatments, namely the addition of 0 sel/ml (control); 333sel/ml (P1); 3.330sel/ml (P2); 33.300sel/ml (P3) and 333.000sel/ml (P4) of Chlorella sp. in 4 liters of wate water. Nitrate and phosphate concentration in the water were checked in the 1st, 4th and 7th days. Results shown that the highest nitrate increased was in the P1 at the 7th day (138%), while that of the phosphate lost was in the P4 at the 7th day (98%). Based on data obtained, it can be concluded that  Chlorellasp. was not able todecreasenitrate concentration,while of the phosphate was able to decrease in the waste water originated from biofloc system intensive aquacultre. Keywords:Nitrate, phosphate, Chlorellasp.bioflock, aquaculture waste.

Abstract

AbstractThe tofu industry and palm oil mills produce a lot of residual production of high organic matter. With the addition of EM4, the residual production can be accelerated decomposition into a nutrient-rich material so that it can be utilized for the growth of Chlorella sp. This study aims to determine the benefits of a mixture of tofu liquid waste with palm oil mill liquid waste for the growth of Chlorella sp. on peat water media conducted in March - September 2019 at the FPK Alga Research Center Laboratory of the University of Riau. Tofu liquid waste samples were taken in Pekanbaru City and the Palm Oil Mill at PTPN V Tandun and peat water from the Kuala Terusan River in Pelalawan Regency. The number of treatments in this study were 5 treatments with 3 replications consisting of P0 (0%), P1 (25%), P2 (50%), P3 (75%), and P4 (100%), where the value of% in each of these treatments is the result of a mixture of liquid waste between the two industries in an operational volume of 1500 ml. Each treatment was added with 25 ml of Chlorella sp. with a culture period of 10 days. The parameter measured is abundance. The results showed the best media at P2 (50%) with an initial abundance of 0.987 x 106 cells / ml to 7.850 x 106 cells / ml on the 7th day. It was concluded that the mixture of tofu liquid waste with palm oil mill liquid waste can be used as nutrition for the growth of Chlorella sp. Keyword:Microalgae, Organic matter, Nutrition, EM4, Abundance.

Abstract

The sago industrial liquid waste is rich in TSS and ammonia and thus need to be processed before being flown to environment. A study aims to reduce the TSS and ammonia in that waste has been conducted in January - April 2017. The sago liquid waste (135 liter) was kept in an anaerob tank (with gravel, sand and palm fiber media) for 10 days. The waste was then flown to an aerobic tank (with charcoal and palm fiber media) for 5 days and finally the waste was treated in a phytoremediation pond that was completed by Pistia stratiotes for 15 days. By the end of the experiment, the TSS reduced from 376 mg/L to 30 mg/L (the effectivity was 88.84% - 92.02%), while the ammonia reduced from 11.82 mg/L to 0.01 mg/L (the effectivity was 48.48% - 99.7%). Other water quality parameters such as pH and DO were improved. The treated waste was used for rearing Cyprinus carpio fingerlings for 7 days and survival rate of the fish was 93%. Based on data obtained, it can be concluded that the combination of anaerob-aerob biofilters and phytoremediation using P. stratiotes is effective to reduce the TSS and ammonia content in the sago industrial liquid waste.Keyword: TSS, Ammonia, Biofilters, Pistia stratiotes

Abstract

AbstractUsed plastic bottles can be used for biofilter media, as microorganisms may attach in the bottle surface. To understand the effectiveness of the number of plastic bottles in the anaerob tank in reducing BOD5 and COD in laundry waste, a research has been done in October-December 2019. There were 3 treatments applied, namely P1 (25 bottles,  11.540 cm2 surface area),  P2 (50 bottles, 23.080 cm2 surface area) and  P3 (75 bottles,  34.619 cm2  surface area), with 3 replications in each treatments. The seeding time of the biofilm was 25 days and the retention time of the water was 12 hours. The effectiveness of BOD5 decrement was 48.4%, 61.1% dan 69.4% in P1, P2, and P3 respectively. While the effectiveness of COD decrement was 44.5%, 50% and61.8% in P1, P2, and P3 respectively. Based on data obtained, it can be concluded that the biofilter that was completed with plastic bottleswas able to reduce the BOD5 and COD in the laundry liquid waste and P3 provided the best result.Keywords: anaerob, bacteri, waste management, plastic bottle re-use

Abstract

 Abstract The laundryliquid waste is rich in COD and BOD5 and thus need to be processed before being flown to environment. A study aims to reduce the COD and BOD5 in that waste has been conducted in January – March 2018. The waste (135 L) was treated using a batch system that was consisted of 2 aerob and 2 anaerob tanks and a Pistia Stratiotesphytoremediation pond. The liquid waste was kept for 10 days in anaerob tanks, 7 days in aerob tanks and 15 days in phytoremediation pond. By the end of the experiment, the COD reduced from 1.440 mg/l to 110 mg/l (the effectiveness was of 92.36%). While the BOD5 reduced from 510 mg/l – 55 mg/l (the effectiveness was 89.21%). Other water quality parameters such as pH was normal and DO was improved. The treated waste was used for rearing Oreochromis niloticus (3-4 cm TL) and was kept for 15 days. The survival rate of the fish was 100%. Based on data obtained, it can be concluded that the combination of bio filters and phytoremediation system using Pistia Stratiotesis effective to reduce the COD and BOD5 content in the laundry liquid waste.  Keyword : waste water, detergent contaminated waste, batch system, waste management

Abstract

Abstract                The noodle industry liquid waste is rich in Amoniak andTSS and thus need to be processed before being flown to environment. A research aims to reduce the Amoniak andTSS on liquid waste using biofilters has been conducted in March-April 2018. The noodle industry liquid waste (175 liters) was treated using a batch system that was consisted of 1 anaerob and 2 aerob tanks and a Pistia stratiotesphytoremediation pond. The liquid waste was kept for 10 ten days in anaerob tank with media gravel, sand and fibers. Then 7 days in aerob tanks with media chopped plastic bottle. Finally 15 days in a phytoremediation pondthat was completed withPistia stratiotes. By the end of the experiment, the Amoniak reduced from 9,4 mg/L to  3 mg/L (effectiveness 68.08%) and TSS reduced from 441 mg/L to 155 mg/L (effectiveness 64.85%). Other water quality parameter such as pH was normal and DO was improved. The treated waste was used for rearing Osphronemus gourami  (3-6 cm TL)and was kept for 15 days.The survival rate of the fish was 95%. Based on data obtained, it can be concluded that the combination of biofilters and phytoremediation system using Pistia stratiotes is effective to reduce the Amoniak and TSS content in thenoodle industry liquid waste. Keywords: Waste water,chopped plastic bottle media, batch system, waste management

Abstract

 Abstract This study aims to isolate and identify the types of biosurfactant producing bacteria in anaerobic ponds WWTP palm oil industry PT. Sawit Asahan Indah. This research was conducted from April to May 2019. Bacteria were isolated and identified biochemically and 16S R DNA method. The number of bacteria obtained is 8,3 x 106 CFU / ml. The results of the study identified three types of bacteria, namely Proteus vulgaris, Proteus mirabilis and Enterobacter aerogenes. The Proteus vulgaris emulsification index is 25%, the Proteus mirabilis emulsification index is 43.3% and the emulsification index Enterobacter aerogenes is 41.6%.
