Abstract

Abstract

Purpose: This study examines cassava marketing channels and their efficiency in Lampung Province, Indonesia. Lampung was selected purposively because it is Indonesia’s largest cassava-producing province. Research: The research was conducted from October 2020 to July 2021 using a survey approach at cassava production centers across Lampung. The respondents consisted of 100 cassava farmers selected through simple random sampling, while lapak (collectors) and agents were identified using snowball sampling. Marketing channels were mapped using a qualitative descriptive analysis. Marketing performance and efficiency were evaluated using marketing margin analysis, farmer share, and the Profit Margin Ratio (RPM). Results: The study identified multiple marketing channels, with the longest being the Farmer–Lapak–Agent–Factory channel. Overall, the cassava marketing system in Lampung was found to be inefficient, as indicated by relatively high marketing margins, low farmer share, and uneven profit margin ratios across marketing actors. Conclusions: Cassava marketing in Lampung is dominated by long distribution chains that reduce farmers’ benefits and create unequal profit distribution. Improving efficiency requires shortening marketing channels and strengthening farmers’ market access to increase the farmer’s share and reduce excessive margins. Limitations: The findings are based on survey data from selected cassava production centers during 2020–2021 and may not fully capture seasonal price dynamics, contract arrangements, or variations across other provinces. Contributions: This study provides empirical evidence on cassava marketing channel structures and efficiency indicators in Indonesia’s main production region, offering practical insights for designing interventions to reduce margins, improve farmer share, promote a more balanced profit distribution among supply chain actors.

Abstract

This study aims to (1) analyze the level of income and (2) analyze the factors that influence the level of household welfare of cassava farmers. The study was conducted in Gunung Agung Village, Terusan Nunyai District, Central Lampung Regency with a survey method. The sample of farmers 78 respondents was taken by proportional stratified simple random sampling. Data analysis using quantitative descriptive methods include income analysis, welfare level analysis according to BPS and Sayogyo, and using a binary logit model. The results show that the source of household income of cassava farmers is increasingly diverse and leads to off and non-farm activities. Revenue from cassava farming has decreased but is still dominant. Based on BPS and Sayogyo criteria, most cassava farming households are in a decent and prosperous life group. The factors that influence the level of welfare of cassava farmers are the amount of work, cassava farming experience, and household income.

Abstract

Sustainable coffee production is critical for ecological balance and livelihood resilience, yet adoption rates among smallholders remain variable. Although social capital is acknowledged as a key driver of agricultural sustainability, the distinct impacts of its constituent dimension’s norms, networks, and trust are insufficiently understood. This study aims to elucidate the differential influence of these social capital dimensions on sustainable production behavior among coffee farmers in Lampung Province, Indonesia. Employing a cross-sectional quantitative explanatory design, data were gathered via structured surveys from 250 coffee farmers selected through purposive sampling over a two-month period. Measurement instruments adapted from established scales underwent rigorous validation. The structural model was analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with bootstrapping to ensure robustness. Findings demonstrate that social norms and social networks exert significant positive effects on farmers' adoption of sustainable coffee practices. Conversely, social trust exhibits no direct statistical influence on behavior. The structural model explains a substantial proportion of behavioral variance and demonstrates adequate predictive relevance. This research offers novelty by empirically disentangling the multidimensional nature of social capital in agricultural contexts, challenging the prevailing assumption that all dimensions uniformly drive sustainability outcomes. Theoretically, it advances social capital literature by validating dimension-specific effects within agrarian settings. Practically, implications suggest that extension programs and policymakers should prioritize norm activation through respected community figures and strengthen peer-to-peer knowledge exchange networks. These levers prove more effective for behavioral change than generalized trust-building alone.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the synchronization of the medium-term spatial utilization program in the Regional Spatial Planning (RTRW) of North Lampung Regency with the Regional Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMD) of North Lampung Regency for the 2020-2024 period. The research method uses descriptive analysis and synchronization analysis of the five-year medium-term spatial utilization program with secondary data from the planning documents of the North Lampung Regency Government. The results indicate that the synchronization level of the medium-term RTRW program with the RPJMD during this period is relatively low, with 42% of the programs experiencing suboptimal synchronization. The primary causes of this low synchronization are the lack of socialization and the limited involvement of implementing agencies in the drafting process of spatial planning and development documents.  Policies that can be implemented by the Government of North Lampung Regency to improve this synchronization include conducting training for employees related to SPPR and providing an understanding of SPPR to regional heads.

Abstract

Cassava is a strategic commodity that has an influence on the stability of food security and drives industries from small to large scale and from upstream to downstream.  Despite the potential and opportunities for developing cassava commodities in Lampung Province, the problems and challenges, especially those related to cassava marketing, are still relatively large. This research was conducted in Labuhan Ratu VI Village, Labuhan Ratu District, East Lampung Regency, Lampung Province in October 2020 - July 2021.  The sampling method used was the snowball method.  The snowball method is very appropriate to use in research on the topic of trade because it provides a complete description of the characteristics and conditions of marketing channels, the existing conditions of marketing institutions, and the effectiveness of existing trade channels.  The research was conducted employing a survey method, and by simple random sampling involving 147 respondents of cassava farmers. The results revealed that cassava marketing consists of 2 channels. Farmer share channel I and II respectively 74% and 86%, while  the marketing efficiency value (EP) marketing channel I and II respectively 13.04 % and 10.35%. These results show that marketing channel II is more efficient than marketing channel I because it has a high farmer share and marketing efficiency with a small percentage.  This is because in marketing channel II farmers directly sell their cassava to the factory and marketing costs are low.  Therefore, farmers are advised to market their products through marketing channel II.

Abstract

The utilization of technology in the agricultural industry is significantly growing recently. This is mostly due to its ability to enhance labor and land productivity, while simultaneously reducing production costs. The objective of this study is to examine the institutional performance and utilization of farm machinery (alsintan) by rice farmers, and to investigate the correlation between institutional performance and alsintan usage on the productivity and income of rice farmers. The study was carried out in two villages in the Central Lampung Regency, namely Rengas Village in Bekri District, and Trimurjo Village in Trimurjo District. Rice farmers in both villages actively utilized alsintan operated under the alsintan service unit (UPJA). The study findings indicate a strong and meaningful correlation between institutional performance and the utilization of alsintan with productivity and income level of tarmers. Alsintan technology directly impacted productivity and revenue with coefficients of 0.63 and 0.60, with confidence levels of 99.9% and 99.7%, respectively. Institutional performance indirectly affected them with a coefficient of 0.30 and a confidence level of 99.99%. The integration of enhancing institutional performance with the optimization of alsintan technology can foster the enhancement of other factors, such as human resource performance, group member involvement, and external environmental support. Keywords: Alsintan, Institutional, Optimization.

Abstract

Mosaccha tempeh is a fermented soybean product produced using Rhizopus oligosporus as a starter culture with the addition of Saccharomyces cerevisiae, and it has strong development potential. This study conducted financial and sensitivity analyses to evaluate the feasibility of establishing a Mosaccha tempeh agroindustry and its responsiveness to changes in key variables affecting business viability. The research aimed to assess the impact of various scenarios on business feasibility. The methods employed included surveys, observations, and interviews using a purposive sampling technique. Premium tempeh producers in Bandar Lampung were selected as prototypes, with UMKM Tempeh Cap Mobil serving as a reference to align the data with current conditions. Data were processed using Microsoft Excel and analyzed under several scenarios: increases in raw material prices (10%, 20%, and 30%), decreases in selling prices (10%, 20%, and 30%), and combinations of both factors at the same percentage levels. Under normal assumptions, the establishment of a Mosaccha tempeh agroindustry in Bandar Lampung is considered feasible, with an NPV of Rp 2,450,599,432.50, an IRR of 76%, a B/C ratio of 1.49, and a payback period of 1.67 years. Sensitivity analysis results indicate that increases in raw material costs of up to 30%, decreases in selling prices of up to 20%, and a combined 10% increase in raw material costs with a 10% decrease in selling prices do not significantly affect feasibility. However, simultaneous increases in raw material prices and decreases in selling prices are the most sensitive factors influencing the financial viability of the Mosaccha tempeh agroindustry in Bandar Lampung.
