Abstract

Technological revolutions, globalization, and complicated market dynamics have expedited the transformation of economic structures. This process is further influenced by the diversity of natural resources among regions, which drives economic development. In today's world, understanding economic change is critical for promoting long-term economic growth. The purpose of this study was to examine structural changes in the agriculture sector and its subsectors on Sulawesi Island, as well as the variables that affect them. The analytical approaches used include descriptive analysis of panel data processed with Microsoft Excel and panel data regression. The findings demonstrate that between 2010 and 2022, Sulawesi's agriculture industry lost 6.24% of its GDP contribution, as did all its subsectors. This decrease was complemented by a rise in the industrial sector's contribution of 5.43%. In the regression analysis, the fixed effect model (FEM) proved to be the best fit. Population density (X1) and the Indonesian democracy index (IDI) (X3) had a positive and significant influence on economic transformation, whereas farmers' terms of trade (FTT) (X4) and the number of people living in poverty (X5) had a negative and significant impact on Sulawesi's agricultural economy transformation. It is suggested that agribusiness operators vary processed products based on agricultural raw materials to aid and balance economic transition. Keywords: economic transformation, fixed effect model, panel data regression, sectoral GDP contribution, structural shift

Abstract

Cassava is one of Indonesia’s leading food commodities, especially in Lampung Province. However, cassava harvesting is still predominantly done manually, which is time-consuming, labor-intensive, and prone to crop damage. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of cassava harvesting using a Kubota mechanical harvesting implement compared to traditional manual methods. The research was conducted in Bandar Mataram District, Central Lampung Regency, over an area of 0.75 hectares and observed parameters including harvest time, tuber damage, losses, and labor efficiency. Results showed that the harvesting implement significantly improved efficiency, allowing one machine to harvest up to 1.07 hectares per day, compared to only 0.045 hectares per day per person using manual labor. Tuber damage and losses were also reduced from 7% in manual harvesting to 1.59% with the implement. Furthermore, the implement created soil ridges suitable for direct replanting without further tillage. Despite its advantages, some operational weaknesses were identified, such as the need for stem cutting and transportation improvements. Overall, the use of mechanized harvesting tools enhances cassava farming efficiency and has the potential to reduce labor dependency and improve farmer productivity.

Abstract

The utilization of technology in the agricultural industry is significantly growing recently. This is mostly due to its ability to enhance labor and land productivity, while simultaneously reducing production costs. The objective of this study is to examine the institutional performance and utilization of farm machinery (alsintan) by rice farmers, and to investigate the correlation between institutional performance and alsintan usage on the productivity and income of rice farmers. The study was carried out in two villages in the Central Lampung Regency, namely Rengas Village in Bekri District, and Trimurjo Village in Trimurjo District. Rice farmers in both villages actively utilized alsintan operated under the alsintan service unit (UPJA). The study findings indicate a strong and meaningful correlation between institutional performance and the utilization of alsintan with productivity and income level of tarmers. Alsintan technology directly impacted productivity and revenue with coefficients of 0.63 and 0.60, with confidence levels of 99.9% and 99.7%, respectively. Institutional performance indirectly affected them with a coefficient of 0.30 and a confidence level of 99.99%. The integration of enhancing institutional performance with the optimization of alsintan technology can foster the enhancement of other factors, such as human resource performance, group member involvement, and external environmental support. Keywords: Alsintan, Institutional, Optimization.
