Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology has significantly transformed the landscape of higher education, including the learning process in universities. However, there remains a gap between students' ability to utilize technology productively and the demands of the digital era, which emphasize information literacy and critical thinking skills. This study aims to analyze the role of digital literacy in shaping students' critical thinking competence in the Indonesian Language Education Study Program during the era of digital transformation. The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach, with participants comprising sixth-semester students and two lecturers teaching technology-based courses at a public university in Indonesia. Data collection instruments included in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation of digital learning activities. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis, which involved data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that digital literacy plays a crucial role in fostering students' critical thinking skills, particularly through activities involving information analysis, digital collaboration, and evaluation of online sources. Students with higher levels of digital literacy demonstrate stronger abilities to assess the credibility of information, construct logical arguments, and produce academic writing based on digital data. Furthermore, lecturers serve as facilitators who encourage reflective and ethical use of digital literacy within the learning process. This study contributes to strengthening the 21st-century learning paradigm in higher education, particularly in integrating digital literacy with the development of critical thinking. It is recommended that educational institutions provide ongoing digital literacy training for both lecturers and students to build an adaptive learning ecosystem aligned with technological advancement

Abstract

This research aims to describe the representation of emotional intelligence in a bilingual Indonesian–Jambi Malay children’s story and its implications for multiliteracy learning for beginning readers. The object of this research is a children's storybook titled Batu Tuo Si Fosil Kayu by Eko Wahyudi. The research data consists of words, phrases, sentences, dialogues, narratives, and illustrations. The data source is a bilingual Indonesian–Jambi Malay children's storybook titled Batu Tuo Si Fosil Kayu by Eko Wahyudi, published by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education in 2024. This research used a descriptive qualitative approach. The data were analyzed using the five components of emotional intelligence, as described by to Daniel Goleman’s theory. The research instrument was the researcher, with data analysis techniques including data classification, analysis, and interpretation, as well as the design of teaching materials for literacy learning. The results indicate that all indicators of emotional intelligence—namely self-awareness, emotional regulation, motivation, empathy, and social skills—are present in the analyzed children’s story. The most dominant indicators are empathy and social skills, reflected through character interactions. Furthermore, this bilingual children’s story features a simple plot, communicative language, and contextual illustrations, making it suitable for beginning readers. Therefore, a bilingual Indonesian–Jambi Malay children’s story has the potential to serve as an alternative, multiliteracies-based instructional material to strengthen the emotional intelligence of beginning readers.

Abstract

The transformation of education in Indonesia through the implementation of the Kurikulum Merdeka has brought about a significant shift in the learning paradigm. The focus of learning is no longer solely on mastery of material, but rather on developing students' overall competencies. This study aims to analyze deep learning strategies in Indonesian language learning under Phase D of the Kurikulum Merdeka. The study used a qualitative approach with a content analysis of learning documents. The results indicate that the strategies identified include critical thinking, collaborative learning, communicative learning, contextual learning, project-based learning, and metacognitive reflection. Critical thinking strategies are the most dominant because they encourage students to analyze, evaluate, and interpret information. These findings indicate that Indonesian language learning under Phase D has implemented deep learning principles that are oriented towards meaningful, active, and student-centered learning. Keywords: Deep learning, Indonesian language, Kurikulum Merdeka

Abstract

This study aims to describe the meaning of the language contained in the oral literature Tale Naek Jui and analyze its role in strengthening literacy and local cultural education of the people of Semumu Village, Kerinci Regency. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques in the form of interviews, observation, and documentation. Data analysis is carried out in stages through the process of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions, which is strengthened by the application of triangulation of sources and methods to ensure the validity of the data. The results show that the language in Tale Naek Jui contains two layers of meaning, namely denotative meaning and connotative meaning. Denotative meaning is seen in the literal meaning of the speech and events conveyed in the storyline, while the connotative meaning is reflected through the use of natural symbols, such as hills, forests, and springs, which represent moral, social, and philosophical values of life of the Kerinci people. The existence of these two types of meanings shows that Tale Naek Jui does not only function as a means of traditional entertainment, but also as an educational medium that contains teachings of values, local wisdom, and character building. In the context of local cultural education, Tale Naek Jui has the potential to be used as a cultural-based learning resource that supports the instillation of noble values, strengthening cultural identity, and developing an appreciative attitude towards regional cultural heritage in the younger generation.ABSTRAKPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan makna bahasa yang terkandung dalam sastra lisan Tale Naek Jui serta menganalisis peranannya dalam memperkuat literasi dan pendidikan budaya lokal masyarakat Desa Semumu, Kabupaten Kerinci.

Abstract

This study examines the phenomenon of digital media use in Arabic language learning at secondary schools from a digital psychology perspective, focusing on students' attention, memory, and motivation. Utilizing a descriptive qualitative method, data was collected via interviews, observation, and documentation. Findings indicate that digital media, such as Canva based visuals, interactive animations, and digital quizzes, effectively attracted student attention and enhanced motivation compared to conventional methods. This multisensory approach facilitated material comprehension and strengthened vocabulary and sentence structure retention. From a digital psychology perspective, these media fostered emotional engagement, promoting active, consistent, and reflective learning. Despite technical constraints like limited data and mobile phone regulations, student preference for digital media remained high, leading to increased focus, participation, and motivation. This study confirms the significant role of digital media in improving student attention, memory, and learning motivation, emphasizing proper utilization and digital literacy for an effective and engaging learning experience.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the gap between learning strategies applied by the teacher and the level of student participation in drama performance learning in class XI F 9 at SMA Negeri 1 Muaro Jambi. The teacher had implemented well-planned and varied learning strategies, yet student active participation remained uneven. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through structured observation, in-depth teacher interviews, and documentation. Results showed that the teacher met all indicators of learning planning, classroom management, and evaluation, including the implementation of Project-Based Learning (PBL). However, gaps were identified in student focus, low student confidence in question- and-answer sessions, uneven participation distribution, and the conventionality of instructional media. These findings confirm that effective planning does not automatically produce optimal student engagement. Integration of interactive digital media and direct appreciation strategies are recommended to bridge this gap.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of Project Based Learning (PjBL) strategy in Indonesian language learning on speech material at class VIII.1 MTs Negeri 3 Kota Jambi. This research used qualitative descriptive method through field observation on May 19, 2026. Data were collected through observation, field notes, and interviews with the Indonesian language teacher. The results showed that the teacher applied PjBL strategy by dividing students into heterogeneous groups, giving freedom to explore references through gadgets and school libraries, and assessing student competence through speech performance assessment. The learning process ran well and interactively, although time management constraints were found. The application of PjBL in this study is in line with the principle of student-centered learning which effectively stimulates higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) and active student involvement. The use of PPT media and authentic evaluation also supported the achievement of learning objectives comprehensively. It is recommended that future learning pay more attention to time allocation and the use of more varied interactive digital media.

Abstract

This study is a literature review aimed at identifying, analyzing, and comparing various Indonesian language learning strategies that are considered effective based on scientific literature published between 2020 and 2026. The main issue underlying this study is the relatively low quality of Indonesian language learning at various educational levels, which is partly caused by the mismatch between teaching strategies and students’ learning characteristics and needs. Through the analysis of 25 scientific sources, including journal articles, research reports, and international conference proceedings, this study examines six major strategies: Cooperative Learning, Project-Based Learning (PjBL), Discovery Learning, Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL), Differentiated Instruction, and Literacy – Based Learning Strategies. The findings indicate that these strategies consistently contribute to increasing students’ active engagement, strengthening language proficiency, and promoting critical thinking skills. No single strategy is universally superior in all situations; the effectiveness of a strategy largely depends on learning objectives, student characteristics, and classroom conditions. This study concludes that the most effective learning approach is one that is student – centered, contextual, and adaptive to diverse learning needs. The practical implication for educators is the need for flexibility in selecting and combining learning strategies according to the specific context they encounter.

Abstract

Writing skills are a complex competency that often becomes an obstacle for students in learning Indonesian. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the Collaborative Learning model on students' writing skills through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach. Based on the PRISMA guidelines, 9 scientific articles were obtained from the Google Scholar, Garuda, and DOAJ databases in the 2019–2025 period that met the inclusion criteria. The synthesis results show that the Collaborative Learning model is consistently effective in improving students' writing skills at various levels of education, both in terms of idea development, writing organization, and the use of linguistic rules. The main supporting factors for the success of this model include active discussion, exchange of ideas, and peer feedback. However, challenges such as inequality in group participation and time constraints need to be anticipated through optimal classroom management by teachers.

Abstract

Students' literacy skills in Indonesia remain a serious challenge, particularly in the Indonesian Language subject, with PISA 2022 placing Indonesia at a score of 359, well below the OECD average of 476. This systematic literature study aims to critically analyze scaffolding concepts, map prior research findings, formulate an implementation model, identify multidimensional impacts on literacy, and identify research gaps and pedagogical implications. Data were collected through searches on Google Scholar, SINTA, DOAJ, Garuda, Scopus, and ERIC using thematic keywords, yielding 112 initial sources that were then selected through a stepwise PRISMA-adapted protocol (deduplication, title-abstract screening, and full-text eligibility assessment) to 28 final sources (20 national, 8 international). Results indicate: (1) scaffolding is proven effective in enhancing reading, writing, critical, and digital literacy; (2) scaffolding effectiveness is contextual and depends on teacher TPACK competence; (3) scaffolding in the Indonesian context faces unique challenges of student ability heterogeneity and infrastructure limitations; (4) research gaps exist in long-term scaffolding studies, standardized measurement, and hybrid digital-conventional models. This study produces a novel six-stage conceptual implementation model synthesized from national and international literature, along with an optimal conditions framework and a future research agenda.
