Abstract

This research is a Classroom Action Research carried out in the Husni Thamrin school field with research subjects XI-IPA grade students the object of research is the application of models of reciprocal learning to increase mathematical problem solving and social attitude of students. This research consists of 2 cycles, each consisting of 2 meetings. The analysis data on cycle I indicated that (1) the average test scores for problem solving are 68,0 or 73% of the number of students who take the test can solve problems fairly minimal category and 27% had levels below the category of problem solving ability sufficient, (2) The value of obtaining students’ social attitudes is 2,0 including the bad category(3) current activity levels of students do not meet the ideal percentage of time specified, (4) there are 93,4% of total students taking learning to respond positively to the components and learning activities. In the second cycle, the results obtained : (1) the average test scores for problem solving abilities were 73,0 or 86,6% of the number of students taking the test can solve problems fairly minimal category and 13,4% had levels below the category of problem solving ability sufficient, (2) The value of obtaining students social attitudes is 3,50 including the excellent category, (3) current activity levels of students who meet the ideal percentage of the time, (4) there are 96,67% of the students gave a positive response to the components of learning activities. Based on the results of cycles I and II can be concluded that the implementation of reciprocal learning models can increase the problem-solving ability and social attitude of students.

Abstract

This research began with the researcher's anxiety regarding the low achievement in mathematics learning in class VII SMP Harapan 2 Medan. Considering the importance of mathematics lessons, it is necessary to carry out an analysis regarding the various difficulties students face when finding solutions to mathematical problems. This type of research is qualitative research with research subjects of as many as 14 students in class VII SMP Harapan 2 Medan. From the results of data analysis, it was found that there were four categories of student difficulties when solving mathematics problems on circle material, namely (1) difficulty understanding the concept of circles, radii finger, circumference, and various others; (2) Difficulty using mathematical tools (ruler) in solving mathematical problems; (3) Difficulty in understanding mathematical symbols; and (4) Not being careful in solving mathematics problems

Abstract

This study investigated the effectiveness of Problem Based Learning (PBL) compared to the Traditional Learning Model in mathematics education, focusing on two key aspects: students' mathematical critical thinking skills and learning independence. The research examined whether PBL yielded better results than traditional methods in enhancing these capabilities, while also analyzing potential interactions between learning approaches and students' initial mathematical abilities. The study was conducted with a sample of 60 tenth-grade students from MAN 1 Medan, drawn from classes X-9 and X-6, who were divided into experimental and control groups. Using mathematical critical thinking skills assessments and a learning independence scale, data were analyzed through two-way ANOVA. The results demonstrated that the PBL model was significantly more effective than the Traditional Learning Model in improving both students' mathematical critical thinking skills and learning independence. However, no significant interactions were found between learning approaches and students' initial mathematical abilities in either the development of critical thinking skills or learning independence. These findings strongly suggest that Problem Based Learning should be considered as an effective instructional strategy for educators seeking to enhance their students' mathematical critical thinking skills and foster greater learning independence in the classroom.

The population in this study consisted of all tenth-grade students at MAN 1 Medan, and the sample comprised 60 students from classes X-9 and X-6, divided into experimental and control groups. The instruments used included a mathematical critical thinking skills test and a learning independence scale. Data were analyzed using two-way ANOVA. Based on the analysis, the following results were obtained: (1) The Problem Based Learning learning model has a better effect than the ordinary learning model in improving students' critical mathematical thinking skills; (2) there is no interaction between learning and students' initial mathematical abilities on improving students' critical mathematical thinking skills; (3) The Problem Based Learning learning model has a better influence than the ordinary learning model in increasing students' learning independence; (4) there is no interaction between learning and students' initial mathematical abilities towards increasing students' learning independence. Based on the results of this study, it is suggested that learning with problem based learning be used as an alternative for teachers to increase students' critical mathematical thinking skills and learning independence.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the impact of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model assisted by digital Quizizz on the mathematical critical thinking ability and Self-efficacy of fifth-grade elementary school students in Percut Sei Tuan District. The study employed an experimental design using a Non-equivalent Control Group Design. The sample consisted of students from SDN 105293 and SDN 101778 Medan Estate. Data collection included pretests and posttests on critical thinking skills, as well as pre- and post-tests on self-efficacy. Data analysis was conducted using Hotelling’s T2 test and two-way ANOVA. The results revealed that the PBL model assisted by Quizizz significantly enhanced students' mathematical critical thinking abilities and self-efficacy. However, no interaction was found between the learning model and students' initial abilities in both variables. These findings suggest that technology integration in education can effectively improve students’ learning outcomes, particularly in fostering critical thinking and students’ academic confidence.
