Abstract

This study uses a qualitative descriptive method that aims to understand the phenomena of elementary mathematics learning outcomes. The resulting data is presented in the form of numbers described in the description. Research using the observation method was conducted on mathematics learning outcomes in grades III and grade V of elementary schools spread across three districts/cities in North Sumatra Province. To understand students' errors and misconceptions is essential for the effective teaching and learning of mathematics. It is important for teachers to approach student mistakes in a constructive way, helping students understand their mistakes and learn from them. Research has been conducted to investigate patterns of student misunderstandings, errors, and misunderstandings across educational systems, grade levels, gender, and time. Several case studies of mathematics subjects in elementary schools in North Sumatra Province became the main focus of the North Sumatra Education Office so that they held improvement and development activities for Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Mathematics subjects in 2022. The conclusion showed that only three grades III fulfilled and 1 class V that meets above the value of 70.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to improve students' mathematical reasoning abilities after implementing the Student Teams Achievement Division (STAD) learning model. The subjects of this research were 32 students in class VIII-8 MTsN 2 Medan. The object of this research is the application of the Student Teams Achievement Division learning model. The type of this research is classroom action research. Data was collected through two reasoning tests in the form of essays. The Reasoning Ability Test I was carried out after Action I (Cycle I) which consisted of 4 questions, and the Logic Ability Test II was carried out after Action II (Cycle II) which consisted of 4 questions. The results of the research show an increase in students' mathematical thinking abilities which can also be seen in the results of their mathematical reasoning tests. Before action was taken, the average diagnostic test score was 39.75 and the overall level of thinking was in the very low thinking category for 2 students (6.25%). After carrying out Cycle I actions using STAD type cooperative learning, the average Reasoning Ability Test score increased to 69.68 and as many as 22 people (68.75%) had a poor level of reasoning ability, meaning that the class average increased by 29. 73. After the Cycle II actions were carried out, the average score for the Mathematical Reasoning Test II was 84.28 with a total of 29 students (90.63%) who were in the high completion category, meaning that the average score achieved had increased by 21. 15. Thus it can be concluded that learning using the STAD type cooperative learning model can improve students' mathematical reasoning abilities in class VIII-8 MTsN 2 Medan.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kemampuan komunikasi matematik siswa ditinjau dari self efficacy. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Pengambilan subjek penelitian dialakukan dengan memberikan angket self efficacy kepada siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri 2 Siborong-borong, selanjutnya pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui tes kemampuan komunikasi matematik materi sistem persamaan linier dua variabel (SPLDV) ini diberikan kepada 6 subjek serta tes wawancaraKomunikasi matematik sangat penting dalam menyelesaikan masalah dalam matematika. Namun, pencapaian komunikasi matematik pada siswa masih tergolong rendah. Hal ini berkaitan dengan self efficacy pada siswa. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Hasil penelitian kemampuan komunikasi matematik siswa ditinjau dari self efficacy yaitu subjek menunjukkan hasil yang berbeda-beda. Berdasarkan hasil analisis hasil tes secara lisan dan tulisan dari 4 indikator kemampuan komunikasi matematis , ada subjek dengan self efficacy tinggi yaitu SET1 dapat memenuhi 4 indikator dari 4 indikator kemampuan komunikasi matematis, sedangkan subjek SET2 hanya mampu memenuhi 2 indikator, selanjutnya subjek sedang yaitu Subjek SES1 mampu memenuhi 3 indikator dan subjek SES2 hanya mampu memenuhi 2 indikator, serta subjek dengan self efficacy rendah yaitu SER1 dan SER2 tidak mampu memenuhi indikator apapun dari 4 indikator kemampuan komunikasi matematik. Sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa tingkat self efficacy tidak selamanya berbanding lurus dengan kemampuan komunikasi matematika, tetapi self efficacy yang tinggi terhadap matematika akan mempengaruhi meningkatnya kemampuan komunikasi matematik siswa karena dapat membuat siswa memiliki sikap positif terhadap matematika dalam menyelesaikan permasalahan matematika.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is: 1) The effectiveness of the RME approach on mathematical problem-solving abilities at SMP Negeri 8 Percut Sei Tuan as compared to ordinary learning. 2) There is a relationship between students’ problem-solving skills and their initial ability (low, medium, high). The research was conducted at SMP Negeri 8 Percut Sei Tuan from May to June 2022. All the seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 8 Percut Sei Tuan were subjects of this study. A random sample of 30 students from each class, VII-1 as the experiment class and VII-2 as the control class, was taken. This research is included experimental research using quasi-experiment methods. The instrument utilized were, an introductory mathematical aptitude test, problem-solving test, a sheet of student’s activity observation, and a questionnaire with student responses. The data analysis use in this research is ANAVA two-ways. The findings of this study revealed that: 1) RME approach with assisted by learning media on problem solving ability is effective compared to ordinary learning, and 2) there was no interaction between learning and students’ mathematical initial ability low, medium, and high on students’ mathematical problem-solving ability. The researcher recommended using the RME technique with the use of learning media as an alternate method for teachers to help pupils improve their problem-solving skills

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini ialah untuk mengetahui apakah kemampuan berpikir kreatif matematis siswa yang diberi pembelajaran open ended lebih baik dari pembelajaran biasa. Penelitian eksperimen ialah salah satu penelitian kuantitatif dimana peneliti memanipulasi satu atau lebih variable bebas, mengontrol variabel lain yang relevan, dan mengamati efek dari manipulasi pada variabel terikat. Murid dalam penelitian ini ialah murid kelas VII – 1 (kelas eksperimen) yang berjumlah 22 murid dan VII–2 (kelas kontrol) yang berjumlah 23 murid. Lembar tes kemampuan berpikir digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data. Tes kemampuan berpikir kreatif dilaksanakan dua kali ialah sebelum dan sesudah pembelajaran menggunakan pendekatan open ended yang sering disebut dengan PreTest dan PostTest. Temuan penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan pendekatan open ended lebih baik dari pembelajaran biasa terhadap berpikir kreatif siswa dan rasa ingin tahu siswa, Kemampuan berpikir kreatif dan rasa ingin tahu secara simultan terhadap model open ended ialah sebesar 0,000 < 0,05 dan nilai Fhitung 152,126 > Ftabel 3,49, sehingga terdapat perbedaan dan lebih baik kemampuan berpikir kreatif dan rasa ingin tahu secara simultan terhadap model open ended. Selain itu pada uji hipotesis dilihat bahwa nilai signifikansi sebesar 0,119 yang berarti nilai tersebut lebih besar dari 0,05 maka H0 diterima dan Ha ditolak. Dengan demikian dapat disimpulkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan secara signifikan antara kemampuan berpikir kreatif siswa dan rasa ingin tahu siswa dengan menggunakan model pembelajaran open ended dan kemampuan berpikir kreatif siswa dan rasa ingin tahu siswa menggunakan model pembelajaran biasa.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the influence and magnitude of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) Model using learning videos on mathematical problem solving abilities in two-variable linear system equations. This research is a quasi-experimental research with a pretest-posttest control group design, where the class is the experimental class, and the class is the control class. The data collection technique is in the form of pretest and posttest results given to two research classes. Next, the t test is carried out to test the hypothesis after first passing the prerequisite tests, namely the normality test and homogeneity test. The results obtained show that learning with the PBL model assisted by learning videos has an effect on mathematical problem solving abilities. Students taught using the PBL model assisted by learning videos have higher problem solving abilities compared to those taught using the direct learning model. The magnitude of the treatment effect shows that there is a high influence and consistency of the PBL model assisted by learning videos on mathematical problem solving abilities.

Abstract

The inductive thinking learning model is a learning model based on processing information, with this model students are required to actively learn independently, discover concepts and ideas, and develop critical thinking skills which ultimately influence problem solving. This research aims to determine the effect of the inductive thinking learning model on the mathematical problem solving abilities of PAB Medan Estate Private Vocational School students. This research was carried out in March – May 2024. The research population for all 10th graders was 40 people. The sample was taken by purpose sampling as many as 40 people. This research is quantitative research, the method used in this research is pre-experimental design in the form of one group pretest and posttest. Before being given treatment, a diagnostic test is first carried out to determine the student's metacognitive ability to see how much their metacognition fails in solving statistical problems. Further grouped into high, medium and low metacognitive failure. After being given treatment, namely the inductive thinking learning model assisted by GeoGebra, a posttest was given with the same questions as the pretest in the form of questions describing statistical material. The research results show a significant influence of the GeoGebra-assisted inductive thinking learning model on students' mathematical problem solving abilities.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the influence of mathematical disposition on problem-solving ability through video-assisted learning in seventh-grade mathematics at a junior high school in Gunungsitoli City. The research employed a quasi-experimental design, with class VII-A as the experimental group (n = 32) receiving video-assisted instruction and class VII-B as the control group (n = 32) using conventional methods. Data were collected through problem-solving ability tests and mathematical disposition questionnaires, administered as pre-tests and post-tests. Analysis was conducted using t-tests and linear regression analysis. Results showed a significant improvement in problem-solving ability in the experimental class compared to the control class, with gain scores of 0.50 and 0.25 respectively. For problem-solving ability, the experimental class improved from a pre-test average of 67.34 to a post-test average of 83.78, while the control class improved from a pre-test average of 66.22 to a post-test average of 73.84. The mathematical disposition analysis yielded scores of 79.31 for the experimental class and 72.06 for the control class. Findings indicate that students who participated in video-assisted learning demonstrated significant improvement in problem-solving ability compared to the control group. Furthermore, students' mathematical disposition positively correlated with this improvement. This suggests that the video-assisted learning approach has potential in facilitating the development of mathematical problem-solving skills, while acknowledging the role of mathematical disposition in the learning process.

Abstract

Ethnomatics integrates local culture in mathematics learning. Traditional games become ethnomatic when used as a means of learning mathematics. In the Simalungun area, a traditional margala game competition was held. In the margala game there is an educational element, through the margala game the player's character values ​​can be developed. Margala games can be created to improve understanding of Mathematics subjects, moreover by applying mathematics during the game, the chances of winning the game are greater. Through this research, it can be seen the closeness of mathematics to local culture. This research aims to find strategies to get points when you are on the attacking team and to prevent getting points when you are on the guard team. to win the traditional game of margala, by utilizing concepts in mathematics, namely Geometry and Graphs. The research was carried out through literature study, observation, interviews, field notes and documentation on the players and coaches of the margala team at SMP Negeri 3 Jorlang Hataran and continued by analyzing the data. The use of geometric concepts in traditional margala game strategies, obtained by understanding the concepts of area and perimeter in rectangular shapes related to the length of the player's hand or reach, as well as position on the field can produce an effective strategy for winning the game. Apart from that, by using graph theory you can predict your opponent's movements and find the shortest route and avoid being touched by your opponent.

Abstract

 AbstrakRendahnya hasil belajar matematika siswa kelas dalam menyelesaikan soal cerita pada materi bilangan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kesalahan siswa dan guru dalam memecahkan masalah pemahaman narasi di kelas tiga dan lima sekolah dasar berdasarkan teori kesalahan Neuman Penelitian ini menggabungkan pendekatan kualitatif. Tujan Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menyelidiki secara komprehensif kesalahan yang dilakukan oleh siswa kelas tiga dan lima dalam menyelesaikan soal cerita dengan menggunakan metode analisis Newman dan mengidentifikasi penyebab kesalahan tersebut dengan menggunakan metodologi yang sama. Metode pengumpulan data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini meliputi tes, wawancara, dan catatan tertulis. Instrumen utama yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah tes bercerita materi pelajaran, dengan satu soal uraian untuk masing-masing kelas 3 dan 5, serta wawancara dan dokumentasi tertulis. Reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan adalah bagian dari teknik analisis data yang digunakan. Hasil Penelitian Ketidakmampuan siswa untuk membaca secara akurat seringkali menjadi akar penyebab kesalahan pertama mereka. Kesalahan membaca dibuat ketika seorang siswa tidak dapat menguraikan kata-kata kunci pertanyaan itu. Penyebab kedua adalah kegagalan mendiagnosis masalah dengan benar. Kesalahan dalam pemahaman masalah adalah jenis kesalahan yang dilakukan siswa ketika mereka dapat membaca dengan baik tetapi tidak yakin apa yang sebenarnya perlu diperbaiki. Penyebab ketiga adalah transformasi yang salah. Masalah dengan transformasi terjadi ketika siswa membuat pilihan yang salah mengenai operasi matematika yang harus dilakukan. Keempat, kesalahan proses yang harus disalahkan. Ketidakmampuan untuk mengukur jumlah secara akurat membuat siswa membuat kesalahan dalam memperkirakan kecepatan pemrosesan. Kesalahan dalam proses perhitungan dapat ditelusuri kembali ke ketidakmampuan siswa untuk menggunakan algoritma secara konsisten dan akurat. Penyebab kelima adalah kecerobohan dalam menulis jawaban akhir. Kesulitan menulis jawaban akhir adalah kesulitan di mana siswa tidak dapat menghasilkan hasil tertulis Kata Kunci. This study aims to analyze students' and teachers' errors in solving narrative comprehension problems in grades three and five of elementary school based on Neuman's theory of error. This study incorporates a qualitative approach. The purpose of this study was to comprehensively investigate the errors made by third and fifth grade students in solving word problems using the Newman analysis method and identify the causes of these errors using the same methodology. Data collection methods used in this study include tests, interviews, and written notes. The main instrument used in this study was the subject matter telling test, with one essay question for each grade 3 and 5, as well as interviews and written documentation. Data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions are part of the data analysis technique used. Research Results Students' inability to read accurately is often the root cause of their first mistakes. Reading errors are made when a student cannot decipher the key words of the question. The second cause is failure to properly diagnose the problem. Errors in problem understanding are the types of errors students make when they can read well but are not sure what exactly needs to be corrected. The third cause is wrong transformation. Problems with transformations occur when students make wrong choices about which mathematical operations to perform. Fourth, process errors are to blame. The inability to measure quantities accurately leads students to make errors in estimating processing speed. Errors in the calculation process can be traced back to students' inability to use algorithms consistently and accurately. The fifth cause is carelessness in writing the final answer.
