Abstract

The fragmentation of creative thinking structures is a phenomenon requiring serious attention in Realistic Mathematics Education (RME). However, studies that systematically explore how students’ creative thinking fragmentation manifests across RME learning stages remain limited. This study aims to examine the types and forms of students' creative thinking fragmentation across four RME activities: situation, model of situation, model for knowledge, and formal mathematics. This research employs a qualitative case study design. Participants consisted of 18 seventh-grade students from an Integrated Islamic Junior High School in Sukoharjo Regency. Data were collected through non-routine mathematical problem tests and in-depth interviews, with validity ensured through source triangulation. Data analysis involved thematic coding based on a fragmentation typology aligned with RME stages, followed by data reduction, display, and conclusion drawing. The results identified five types of fragmentation: (1) less-strict fragmentation at the situation stage, (2) translational fragmentation (text to symbol) at the situation stage, (3) pseudo-false fragmentation at the model of situation stage, (4) translational fragmentation (text to image) at the model for knowledge stage, and (5) pseudo-true fragmentation at the formal mathematics stage. These findings extend theoretical perspectives and inform instructional design and scaffolding strategies in RME classrooms.

Abstract

Problem-solving ability is one of the essential learning characteristics in 21st-century skills, which requires students to think critically during the problem-solving process. Thus, the purpose of this study was to describe students' problem-solving skills in HLT-based RME learning. This research used a qualitative method with a case study design. The research was implemented in SMP Negeri 3 Satu Atap Tawangharjo. The research subjects were the principal, math subject teacher, and seventh-grade students. Data validity used triangulation of methods and sources. Data analysis technique with flow method. The results showed that some students had high, medium, and low mathematical problem-solving abilities in solving math problems. In conclusion, students' problem-solving ability in HLT-based RME learning has a high percentage. The percentage of students with high problem-solving ability is 75%, those with moderate problem-solving ability make up 15%, and those with low problem-solving ability account for 10%. Thus, students who were able to solve problems in HLT-based RME learning were more than students who were not able to solve problems in HLT-based RME learning.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the role of RME-based statistics HLT implementation in students' concept understanding ability at SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Kartasura class VIII in the odd semester of the 2024/2025 academic year. The method used was Didactical Design Research with a qualitative approach. The research focused on three research subjects, namely students with high (S1), medium (S2), and low (S3) concept understanding abilities. The results showed that the implementation of RME-based HLT contributed positively to students' understanding of statistics concepts. The learning process through the stages of HLT, namely emergent, model-for, model-of, and formal, facilitated students in building concept understanding gradually. S1 showed the ability to interpret data and relate it to real contexts well, S2 was able to understand basic concepts and apply them in similar problems, while S3 experienced an increase in understanding even though they still needed further guidance in applying concepts to more complex situations. This research indicates that the RME-based HLT is effective in facilitating the understanding of statistical concepts of students with different ability levels.

Abstract

The low mathematics learning outcomes of students in Indonesia are influenced by several factors, such as parental support, the level of discipline, and student study habits that still need to be improved. The purpose of this study is to examine the direct effect of parental support and discipline on study habits, the direct effect of the three variables on learning outcomes, and the indirect effect of parental support and discipline on learning outcomes through study habits. This research method is quantitative with a correlational design. The research subjects were 100 students in grades VII and VIII in one of the junior high schools in Purwodadi Regency from a total population of 150 students. Data collection techniques used questionnaires to measure parental support, discipline, and study habits, as well as math tests for learning outcomes. Data were analysed using path analysis with SPSS version 16, preceded by prerequisite tests (normality, linearity, multicollinearity, heteroscedasticity). The results showed that parental support and discipline had a significant effect on study habits (70% contribution), with discipline as the dominant factor. Only the level of discipline has a significant direct effect on learning outcomes (8.3% contribution). Parental support has a significant indirect effect on learning outcomes through study habits. Discipline is the main internal factor affecting learning habits and learning outcomes.

Abstract

Technological developments and the complexity of problems in the contemporary era require students to not only master mathematical steps but also to be able to think logically and systematically in solving contextual problems. Computational thinking is closely related to numeracy skills because it requires the ability to understand quantitative information, analyze relationships between data, and design structured and logical problem-solving steps. This study aims to analyze students; computational thinking skills in solving PISA questions based on quantity in terms of numeracy skills. The research used a descriptive qualitative approach conducted at SMPIT Al-Falaah Simo in the odd semester with eighth-grade students as subjects. Data collection was conducted through tests and interviews, using instruments in the form of numeracy tests, PISA Quantity content tests, and interview guidelines. The results of the study indicate that variations in numeracy skills have an impact on the quality of students' computational thinking. Students with high numeracy skills are able to fulfill all indicators of computational thinking, namely decomposition, pattern recognition, abstraction, and algorithms. Students with moderate numeracy skills fulfill these indicators but still have limitations in problem solving. Meanwhile, students with low numeracy skills are not yet able to fully fulfill the indicators of computational thinking.

Abstract

21st-century skills require students to master three key dimensions: literacy, numeracy, and character education. In this context, Computational Thinking (CT) is crucial in mathematics education, as it involves problem formulation, problem-solving, and systematic scientific reasoning. However, the low level of computational thinking skills among junior high school students is often attributed to instruction that tends to be abstract and lacks relevance to daily life. Social arithmetic—a critical topic—requires a contextual approach and technology integration to help students grasp concepts while simultaneously honing logical and systematic thinking skills. This study aims to develop and test the validity and practicality of a STEM-based (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) mathematics e-module that integrates local culture. It employs a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). The study participants included two expert validators, one mathematics teacher, and 31 seventh-grade students from SMP Negeri 2 Pagar Alam. Data collection instruments consisted of interview guidelines and questionnaires. Data were analyzed using a sequential explanatory design, combining qualitative and quantitative descriptive methods. The results indicate that the developed e-module met the following criteria: (1) highly valid, with an average expert validation score of 91.75%; and (2) highly practical, with an average practicality score of 88.33% based on teacher feedback, and practical, with an average score of 80.10% based on student feedback. Furthermore, the analysis phase revealed a gap regarding the availability of conventional teaching materials that failed to actively engage students, contrasted with students' interest in digital devices and the need for contextual learning. The study concludes that the STEM-based e-module, which integrates local coffee culture, serves as a valid and practical learning resource for students.
