Abstract

The objective of this study is to analyze the cooperative pattern, advantages, and disadvantages of the California Papaya Farmer Group with Hypermart Lippo Plaza Kendari. The research utilized a descriptive method with a qualitative approach. The study's informants are California papaya farmers who have a cooperative relationship with Hypermart Lippo Plaza, intentionally selected based on predetermined criteria. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation methods. Data were collected through an interview guide and analyzed using qualitative methods as described by Mills and Huberman, including field notes, information collection, information presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that the California papaya farmer group cooperated with Hypermart Lippo Plaza Kendari through a sub-contract partnership pattern. The cooperation pattern offers several advantages, including price and market certainty, production continuity, and higher product selling prices for farmers who participate. However, one major shortcoming of this pattern is that Hypermart Lippo Plaza Kendari does not distribute farming risks, meaning that the partner group bears all the risk.

Abstract

The local wisdom of the community, which has existed since the ancestors of the Muna people passed down their knowledge from generation to generation, serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining positive relationships with other humans, with nature, and with other creatures. This study aims to ascertain the forms and stages of farmers' local wisdom in corn cultivation activities in Marobea Village, Sawerigadi District, West Muna Regency. The informants were selected purposively based on their understanding of the focus of analysis, namely the local wisdom of the Marobea Village Community related to corn cultivation. The key informants were selected using the snowball sampling technique, or alternatively, according to the level of information saturation. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and document analysis with the assistance of an interview guide. The research is organized around two focal points: first, the form of textual and intangible local wisdom, and second, the stages of local wisdom of corn farmers in Marobea Village. The data analysis method employed is descriptive qualitative analysis, which is based on the Milles and Huberman model. This approach includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the form of farmers' local wisdom in maize cultivation in Mrobea Village is manifested in two distinct categories: tangible textual forms, encompassing procedures and value systems, and intangible forms, represented by prayers and mantras. The stages of corn cultivation in Marobea Village are associated with a set of local agricultural knowledge and practices. These include land preparation (detambori), seed provision (dewine), planting (detisa), maintenance (derawati), corn vegetable collection (depasele), and harvesting (detongka).

Abstract

Coastal areas and small island communities in the Wakatobi archipelago carry out traditional agriculture. Farming is held with a rainfed system on dry land and a dry climate. This system theoretically has non-optimal productivity. Even so, farmers still farm because extrinsic motivation influences how they manage farming land. The productivity of their farms is relatively able to meet the needs of farmers. This study aims to determine extrinsically motivations attached to the traditional agricultural systems of the Binongko community in the Wakatobi Islands. The research lasted eight months, from June 2019 to February 2020. The research data was collected with the triangulation method by observation, interviews, and literature study. The research informants were determined purposively with a chain information collection system. The data were analysed qualitatively using a phenomenological approach. Based on the results of this study, it is known that the Binongko Island community has an extrinsic motivation attached to traditional farming systems, namely, to obtain agricultural products economically, socially, and ecologically. In addition, farmers are also extrinsically motivated by the support from the government. These local wisdom techniques are implemented starting from land preparation and clearing, planting, maintenance, harvesting and post-harvesting.

Abstract

The integrated system of lowland rice and cattle farming is an agricultural approach that combines lowland rice farming with cattle farming in one integrated production system. This pattern provides the advantage of increasing income from lowland rice and cattle, whereas the conventional lowland rice pattern sources income only from lowland rice. This research aims to compare the income of farmers who implement an integrated lowland rice and cattle system with conventional lowland rice farmers. This research was conducted in the North Tongauna District, Konawe Regency, Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia. The sample was determined using the Slovin technique, which was then continued using the proportional random sampling technique so that the number used was 43 farmers who implemented an integration system between lowland rice and cattle and 48 conventional lowland rice farmers in North Tongauna District, Konawe Regency. To answer the objective, use income analysis and the independent sample T-test. The results of the research show that there is a difference in income between farmers who implement an integrated system of lowland rice and cattle and conventional lowland rice farmers, namely farmers who implement an integrated system of lowland rice and cattle amounting to IDR41,047,139,-/ha/year. In contrast, for conventional lowland rice, The average income obtained was IDR 30,595,333/ha/year.

Abstract

The palm oil industry has the potential as a ruminant livestock development area because it holds large feed resources, economic value, and social value. This study explicitly aims to identify the dimensions of the local wisdom of the Tolaki ethnicity regarding buffalo and cattle farming and develop a model for integrating buffalo and cattle farming in oil palm plantations based on the local wisdom of the Tolaki ethnic community in the North Konawe Regency. The research method uses a phenomenological approach and is analyzed descriptively. The research results show the dimensions of the local wisdom of the Tolaki ethnic group in the business of raising buffalo and cattle, including the dimensions of knowledge and skills, the dimensions of social status (Anakia), the economic dimension, and the dimension of obedience to the law. Meanwhile, there are two integration models for the buffalo/cattle livestock business and the oil palm plantation business: the extensive and intensive integration models. The research results, in general, can be concluded that the dimensions of the local wisdom of the Tolaki tribe in integrated cattle/buffalo livestock business in oil palm plantations are divided into 4 parts with extensive and intensive integration models. Keywords: integrated agribusiness, livestock, oil palm, local wisdom
