Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

In the developing countries, the need for prosthetic hands is increasing. In general, transradial amputee patients use prosthetic hands that are passive like a body-powered prosthesis. This research proposes a low-cost myoelectric prosthetic hand based on 3D printing technology. Hand and finger size were designed based on the average size of human hands in Indonesia. The proposed myoelectric hand employs linear actuator combined with the tendon-spring mechanism. Myoelectric hand was developed with five modes of grip pattern to perform various object grasping in activity of daily living. Control strategy had been developed for controlling the motion of flexion and extension on the hand and saving the energy consumed by the actuators. The control strategy was developed under MATLAB/Simulink environment and embedded to Arduino Nano V3 using Simulink Support Package for Arduino Hardware. Surface electromyography (EMG) sensor was used in this research for reading the muscle activity of the user/wearer. The proposed myoelectric hand had been tested in object grasping test and was implemented on a study participant with transradial amputee.

Abstract

For design of marine propeller, the energy supply from marine engine to the propeller should be converted to thrust force with minimum losses. Furthermore, the unwanted vibration and cavitation due to the overlooking a detail calculation of the propeller should be prohibited for increasing the fuel efficiency and life-span of the propeller. In the last few decades, most of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) focusing their work on ship component industry in Central Java Province Indonesia provide the marine propeller to the ship manufacturer and ship repairmen in some shipyards in northern part of Central Java port. The design of the propeller is never been observed and optimized. The aim of the present work is to redesign the installed propeller on a wooden fishing boat with the new optimized design using B-Series propeller theory approach. The reverse engineering method uses three-dimensional scanner to obtain the geometrical data of the installed ship propeller. The new optimized propeller design is obtained from free software calculation based on the boat and engine specification. The comparison shows that the new optimized propeller design has a wider blade and larger pitch and increases 20% of the open water efficiency of the propeller performance at lower engine rotation. Abstract

Background: Upper limb weakness is the most disability caused by stroke. The availability of physiotherapists is still limited in Indonesia. The exoskeleton robot is a developing technology that involve in stroke rehabilitation therapy. Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of exoskeleton robot-assisted therapy on improving muscle strength of patients after stroke. Methods: An experimental study with two groups pre-test and post-test design carried out using consecutive sampling among outpatient stroke patients in Diponegoro National Hospital (RSND) and William Booth Hospital (RSWB), Semarang. Patients in the robotic group (RG) (n=8) received 16 training sessions. Each session consists of 30 passive and ten active-weighted elbow flexion-extension with the exoskeleton robot. Meanwhile, the control group (CG) (n=8) received equivalent training of conventional therapy. The primary outcome of muscle strength was measured by Manual Muscle Testing (MMT) and handheld dynamometer. Pre and post-test MMT score data in each group were analyzed by Wilcoxon test, while handheld dynamometer score data were analyzed by paired t-test. Data between the two groups were analyzed by Mann-Whitney test and unpaired t-test. Results: Significant improvements were shown for the MMT score (RG: p=0.014, CG: p=0.034). There were significant handheld dynamometer score improvements on muscle strength for elbow flexor and extensor in RG (p = 0.008 and p = 0.005 respectively) and in CG (p=0.036 and p=0.008 respectively). No significant differences for MMT and handheld dynamometer score between the two groups. Conclusion: The exoskeleton robot-assisted therapy was as effective as conventional therapy for improving muscle strength in stroke patients.

Abstract

This work presents a simulation of 2D rolling contact on a rough surface using a finite element analysis (FEA). The finite element software, ABAQUS, is used for simulating the rigid cylinder rolls over on a rough surface with different applied loads. The rough surface is considered to be elastic-perfectly plastic aluminum with strain hardening. The pure rolling and frictionless contact is assumed in the cylinder movement on a certain linear distance. The applied load is modeled as three different interferences, which results deformations and stress distributions. The static contact between a rigid indenter on a rough surface is used to validate the result by comparing the present results and the previous research results.  The resulted elastic-plastic deformation and von Mises stress distribution in the simulation is reported. The increase of the applied load results the larger the deformation of the asperity on the rough surface. It also takes effect on the von Mises stress distribution. The plastic deformation area on the top of the rough surface asperity become wider as the load is increase. The deformation and stress distribution in the simulation describes the phenomenon where the engineering surface is deformed due to the rolling contact. Abstract

This paper is presented to compare the transmission gear products from SME (UKM gear) and national scale manufacturer (OEM gear) especially on the surface hardening characterization. Both gears  were  heat  treated with  different methods.  The gear product of SME was  heat treated by pack carburizing and quenching whereas the OEM gear was predicted to be heat treated using induction  heating with high frequency. The surface hardening characterization was conducted by investigating the hardening thickness,  the hardness number  and the microstructure  observation  on the gear surfaces.  The result  of the hardening thickness investigation reveals a distinction on the depth of hardening penetration. The heat treatment using  long interval  pack carburizing  of UKM gear  produces a  deeper  penetration and the higher hardness number on the gear surface whereas the OEM gear has a thin hardness penetration and lower hardness number.  The microstructure of  the  both gears  depicts the different types  of phase. The  SME  gear shows the present of the carbon  infiltration  on the martensitic phase structure boundary whereas the OEM gear exhibits lower bainite phase on the gear surface. With this condition the OEM gear is predicted to behave a better contact stress distribution during operation. Keywords: gear, heat treatment, surface hardening, microstructure

Abstract

Pengelasan gesek menggunakan parameter seperti friction time, friction pressure, upset time, upset pressure dan putaran spindle.

Abstract

Dalam kontak sliding, para peneliti membagi keausan menjadi tiga fase, yaitu: running-in, steady state (fase tunak) dan wear out. Kata kunci: running-in, steady state, tekanan kontak, pin-on-disc, FEA.
