Abstract

ABSTRACTThe incidence of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) in Buleleng District during COVID-19 pandemic was very high. Mortality cases in 2021 will double from 2020. We conducted a case-control study in two sub-districts Buleleng District. A total of 143 samples were obtained by total sampling divided into cases and controls traced from February 1-28, 2021. Cases were individuals diagnosed by the hospital. Controls were individuals selected from the case environment and did not experience symptoms of DHF. We collected data door-to-door and data from a cohort of DHF sufferers. We processed and analyzed data using the IBM SPSS version 22 application. Inferential analysis used Chi-Square or Fisher-Exact statistical tests. We found 76 cases of DHF and 2 of them died. AR in urban areas was higher than rural areas with 4 per 10,000 and a CFR of 0.62%. A total of 45 cases were male. A total of 46 cases were in the young age group. The presence of larvae (OR: 2.01 95%CI: 1.3- 3.03), open containers (OR: 2.2 95%CI: 1.2-4.2), open rubbish bins (OR: 3.1 95%CI: 1.7-5.4) in urban areas and the presence of larvae (OR: 2.5 95% CI: 1.1-5.3), open containers (OR: 2.5 95% CI: 0.8-8.1) in rural areas were significantly associated with DHF outbreaks during the COVID-19 pandemic. The presence of larvae, open containers, and open rubbish bins are associated with DHF outbreaks during the COVID-19 pandemic. It is necessary to intensify surveillance approaches and community empowerment in eradicating mosquito nests to limit the area of transmission. ABSTRAKKejadian Demam Berdarah Dengue (DBD) di Kabupaten Buleleng pada masa pandemi COVID-19 sangat tinggi. Abstract

This evaluation aims to find out how to implement and analyze problems in the dengue surveillance system. The evaluation was carried out in March-June 2023 using the concepts of input, process, output and surveillance attributes. Data collection was carried out on 1 health service officer, 4 community health center officers by interviewing and observing using a questionnaire. The health centers were selected based on the criteria for accuracy in collecting reports. Data is presented in the form of graphs, tables and narratives. According to interviews and observations, the findings relate to input, process, output and surveillance attributes. All health center and health service officers (100%) have never received training/orientation. There are (25%) community health center officers who are late in collecting reports, this is an obstacle to data collection by the Health Service. Health Service officers rarely carry out monitoring related to the collection of reports by the Puskesmas, but the reasons for delays are still communicated. 100% of community health centers have investigated risk factors, but the community health center network does not report suspect cases. As many as (100%) officers do not know how to analyze data based on person, place and time and all officers (100%) have not presented the results of data analysis as a form of information about dengue fever. This causes the type, components and attributes of surveillance, namely representative implementation, to not be optimal. The implementation of the surveillance system is not in accordance with the types, components and attributes of surveillance.

Abstract

Background: Soil-transmitted helminth (STH) infection is a public health concern, particularly in developing countries, including Indonesia. Scavengers are a high-risk group due to their direct contact with garbage that is potentially contaminated with worm eggs. This study aims to determine the prevalence of STH infection and risk factors associated with STH infection among scavengers at a landfill in Denpasar, Bali. Methods: This research approach was an observational study with a cross-sectional design involving 101 scavengers as respondents. Data were collected through interviews using questionnaires, observation of personal hygiene behavior, and nail clipping examination to detect the sedimentation concentration method. Results: The results showed that the prevalence of STH infection was 37.6%. Factors significantly associated with STH infection were knowledge and nail hygiene. Meanwhile, hand washing habits, footwear use, personal hygiene, environmental sanitation, and deworming medication did not show a significant association. Conclusion:  These results emphasize the importance of enhancing knowledge and nail hygiene practices as a means of preventing STH infections. Continuous health education as a means of promoting clean and healthy living habits among scavengers need to be improved as a preventive measure to reduce the risk of STH transmission
