Abstract

This study analyzes the dynamics of political communication between Megawati Soekarnoputri and Puan Maharani in the leadership of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP). Using a descriptive-analytical approach and Symbolic Interactionism theory, this research highlights the importance of symbols in shaping public perception of both leaders. The results of the analysis indicate that their political interactions influence the party's image, especially in the context of specific political events such as elections and policy controversies. The interpretation of political communication symbols also reveals the complexity of public perception towards the PDIP and its leaders. The implications for the PDIP leadership in facing political challenges, including coalition formation, underscore the importance of responsive and effective communication strategies. This study provides valuable insights into the dynamics of Indonesian politics and makes a significant contribution to understanding political communication and party dynamics in the country.

Abstract

Abstract - This study explores the strategic role of political buzzers in shaping public opinion through the social media platform TikTok during the 2024 Indonesian presidential election campaign, with a specific focus on the Prabowo Subianto–Gibran Rakabuming Raka presidential-vice presidential ticket. Using a qualitative approach through case studies and content analysis, the research investigates the communication strategies employed by buzzers, the types of content disseminated, and audience responses. The findings reveal that buzzers successfully rebranded Prabowo's image to appear more relatable and appealing to younger voters, as reflected in the viral narrative of "Prabowo Gemoy." This communication strategy significantly contributed to increased electability among millennial voters. However, buzzer activity also raises concerns due to the spread of misinformation, negative campaigning, and the intensification of political polarization. Therefore, this study emphasizes the importance of strengthening digital literacy and regulating buzzer activity to uphold a healthy democratic process. The research contributes to the broader discourse on digital political communication and offers insights into developing more ethical and responsible campaign strategies in the social media era.

Abstract

The Regional Development Planning Agency is an institution that assists regional heads in determining regional development policies. The John M. Bryson concept emphasizes a systematic approach to formulating, implementing, and evaluating development policies with formal authority, information centers, and strategic decision-making. This research aims to analyze Bappeda’s role through its formal authority, function as an information center, and strategic decision-making, while identifying supporting and inhibiting factors in the policy formulation process. This study uses a descriptive qualitative research approach, employing data collection techniques through interviews and related documents. The results show that the role of the institution in formulating policies—through formal authority, information centers, and strategic decisions—runs well based on bottom-up principles. The supporting aspects include the commitment of regional leaders and the active involvement of the community, while the inhibiting aspects are the lack of human resources and supporting facilities. The research contributes to the theoretical understanding of regional development planning and offers practical recommendations for local governments to strengthen Bappeda’s role in achieving sustainable development goals.

Abstract

Abstract

The transformation of the digital economy has given rise to a new work model known as the gig economy, where app-based jobs like online motorcycle taxis (ojol) are rapidly growing. Behind the narrative of flexibility and partnership offered, there lies a work relationship that creates structural inequalities between platform companies and workers. This research uses Karl Marx's social conflict theory approach to analyze the hidden forms of exploitation behind the digital work system. Through literature review and critical discourse analysis, it was found that digital communication run by platforms is one-way, relies on algorithms, and creates unequal power relations. Ojol workers do not have control over digital production tools (applications), which places them in a subordinate position. Moreover, the use of the term "partner" has proven to be an ideological instrument to cover up the inequalities in labor relations. This research concludes that the gig economy in the context of online motorcycle taxis reproduces a new form of class exploitation, with communication as a covert tool of domination. The implications of these findings emphasize the importance of fair regulation and the strengthening of worker collectives in facing platform-based work models.

Abstract

This article analyzes the construction of women's identity through a relational dialectics approach implied in the letters of RA Kartini. With the context of Dutch colonialism and the dominance of Javanese patriarchal culture, the letters became an arena of discourse where Kartini constructed her identity as a modern Javanese woman. This research uses library methods on Kartini's correspondence in the book Door Duisternis tot Licht (Habis Gelap Terbitlah Terang) and relevant archives. The analysis results show that Kartini not only fought for women's emancipation but also deconstructed the passive identity imposed on indigenous women by crafting a strong narrative of cultural resistance. The dialectic between Western values and local traditions creates complexity in her narrative of identity as a colonial woman.

This not only increases their income, but also provides an opportunity to develop skills and knowledge about the environment. However, there are still several challenges that need to be overcome. Among them, improving supporting infrastructure, such as better road access and adequate sanitation facilities. Apart from that, education and environmental awareness also need to be improved so that people can preserve mangroves and their ecosystems.
