Abstract

Malnutrition among children under five remains a significant public health challenge worldwide, particularly in regions with limited access to adequate nutrition. Local supplementary feeding programs have been widely implemented as a strategy to address this issue. However, the effectiveness of these programs is highly dependent on the management policies governing their implementation. Despite the importance of this topic, the literature on the specific impact of these management policies on improving the nutritional status of children under five is fragmented and lacks comprehensive analysis. This study aims to map the literature related to the impact of local supplementary feeding management policies on improving the nutritional status of children under five. The first thousand days of life (1000 HPK) is a critical period that can permanently affect a child’s health and development. Despite ongoing efforts to address nutritional issues, such as stunting, challenges remain in the implementation of effective policies. A scoping review method was applied to explore various studies and related literature, focusing on the impact of nutritional interventions, policies, and local supplementary feeding management. This research was conducted through a systematic literature review, analyzing peer-reviewed articles, reports, and case studies on local supplementary feeding programs. The study focused on identifying the key management policies and their influence on the nutritional outcomes of children under five. Data were synthesized to uncover trends, effective strategies, and gaps in the existing research. The findings underscore the critical need for an integrated approach in nutrition programs, combining effective policy management, community involvement, and sustained resource allocation. Such an approach is essential to optimize the impact of supplementary feeding programs and ensure sustainable improvements in the nutritional status of young children. Future research and policy development should prioritize multi-sectoral collaboration and evidence-based interventions to address persistent challenges in child nutrition.

Abstract

Information systems that have been used for a long time should receive an evaluation of their use, one of which is SISFO Gizi Terpadu e-PPGBM. To evaluate an information system, several evaluation models can be used which have their focus on evaluation. Because these evaluation models have their focus, this research tries to combine a few evaluation models that will later be used to evaluate the e-PPGBM Integrated Nutrition SISFO. Before being used for evaluation, the newly formed combined information system evaluation model must first pass validity and reliability tests. Testing was carried out on 89 e-PPGBM users in Bali Province in a cross-sectional manner. Based on convergent validity, discriminant validity, and composite reliability testing, which was carried out using SmartPLS 4, it was found that all indicators in the e-PPGBM Integrated Nutrition SISFO evaluation model were declared valid and reliable. Structural model testing was also carried out and obtained an R-square value for the intention variable to use e-PPGBM of 0.627. This means that the influence of technology, human, and social influence variables on the intention to use the e-PPGBM variable is 62,7%, while other factors influenced the 36.9% remaining of it. Also, using e-PPGBM is only 4,1% influenced by the variable intention to use e-PPGBM. So, it can be interpreted that many other factors that are thought to influence the use of e-PPGBM.

Abstract

Background: Menstruation, a normal part of puberty, is frequently misinterpreted because of societal stigma and limited access to proper education. Educational settings and peer-based programs are key in enhancing both menstrual and nutritional health, which are vital to supporting the overall well-being of adolescent girls. This Study aims to explore the factors influencing the promotion of menstrual health through nutrition education and peer-based interventions for adolescent girls using a scoping review methodology. Subject and Method: This scoping review was conducted using data obtained from PubMed Central, Science Direct and Google Scholar. The target population includes adolescent girl related to their menstrual health, nutritional education and peer-based intervention. A search was conducted using the keywords “Menstrual health" AND "nutritional education" AND "peer-based interventions" AND ("adolescent girls" OR "teen girls" OR "adolescent health") AND ("menstruation" OR "menstrual hygiene" OR "menstrual health promotion") AND ("nutrition" OR "diet" OR "healthy eating") AND ("peer support" OR "peer education" OR "peer-led programs"), yielding 4.245  articles, which were then filtered down to 7 relevant articles after applying a 10-year time frame. Results: Several factors influence the promotion of menstrual health through nutrition education and peer-based interventions for adolescent girls. These include social support from peers, skills-based education, family involvement (especially mothers), sufficient nutrition literacy, psychosocial factors such as self-confidence and self-control, the role of schools as a health education platform, and the theoretical models used in the program, such as the Theory of Planned Behavior. Conclusion: Peer-led and skills-based education improves health outcomes for adolescent girls. Combining peer support, family involvement, and active learning enhances program success. Schools and communities should adopt these models to address adolescent health issues effectively.

Abstract

Globally, stunting is a severe public health concern, especially in low- and middle-income nations like Indonesia. It is typified by stunted growth and development due to recurrent infections and chronic malnutrition. North Jakarta has a 19.8% stunting incidence, according to the 2023 Indonesian Health Survey. This indicates the critical need for additional research into the factors contributing to stunting, such as hair zinc levels, dietary habits, and infectious infections. This study employs an observational case-control design conducted in North Jakarta in March 2024. Stunting incidence and hair zinc levels are significantly correlated (p=0.000), affecting 87.5% of children with low hair zinc levels. Stunting is also correlated considerably (p=0.000) with incorrect feeding patterns; 75.7% of children who exhibit these patterns are stunted. On the other hand, there was no statistically significant correlation (p=0.806) between the incidence of stunting and a history of infectious illnesses. The mother's level of education, the child's age, gender, and family income did not significantly correlate with stunting.

Abstract

Partnership is relationship that was build between various parties both individuals, groups and organizations that interacted with each other and coordination in achieving common goals. In carrying out health development the Government cannot move on its own without involving non-government stakeholders who have an important role in tackling stunting. The purpose of this study was to determine stakeholder commitment in a partnership to reduce stunting through sensitive nutrition interventions. The types of qualitative research were analyzed descriptively and in-depth interviews and observations. Research location in Central Maluku Regency, 2019. The results of the study explained that there was already a division of roles of the relevant regional apparatus organizations in terms of stunting efforts within the scope of local government and community leaders but there was no division of roles with non-governmental organizations. In terms of partnership experience, all relevant regional apparatus organizations have collaborated, but there is no experience in partnering with non-government organizations. For special fund allocations, there is no budget allocation for special funds for stunting prevention in the regions, thus hampering the smooth operation of partnership activities. Based on the results of the study it can be concluded that there has been no partnership relationship established between the local government and non-governmental organizations in terms of stunting prevention efforts, this is evident in the division of roles and experiences in partnering with stunting prevention efforts not yet involved, and for the allocation of special funds for stunting prevention has not been regulated in the regions because there is no regional action plan yet.

Abstract

Toddlerhood is an important period in human growth and development; during that period, if the nutrition is not adequate, they risk stunting. Some factors that cause this are energy intake, protein intake, parenting, and food security. In 2022, the prevalence of stunting is around 148 million (22.3%), most coming from Asia and Africa; according to WHO, in Indonesia, the prevalence of stunting is 21.6%. The incidence of stunting in Mentawai Islands Regency is 32%, the second highest rate below the national rate. According to the author's knowledge, this research is the first study to analyze the relationship between independent and dependent variables as well as the determinants of stunting in toddlers in the Sarereiket Health Centre using questionnaire data, direct observation, and interviews that have gone through a validation and reliability process from experts through the laboratory. The research aims to analyze the relationship between energy intake, protein intake, and hygiene of toddlers and the incidence of stunting in toddlers aged 24-59 months in South Siberut District, Mentawai Islands Regency. The method used the observational method. The subjects of analysis were 393 toddlers aged 24-59 months in the Sarereiket Health Centre who were involved in this study. Multivariate regression was performed to identify the relationship between dependent and independent variables. The results indicate that toddlers' energy intake, protein intake, and hygiene are associated with stunting. The results of the multivariate analysis in this study indicate that protein intake and toddler hygiene influence stunting and contribute to increasing the incidence of stunting in toddlers. The conclusion is there is a significant relationship between energy intake, protein intake, and hygiene of toddlers and the incidence of stunting in the Sarereiket Community Health Centre, Mentawai Islands.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Both overweight and obesity are caused by excess nutrient intake. Feeding practices are one of the mother's efforts to prevent obesity in her toddler by controlling the nutritional intake. Obesity during childhood will increase the risk of persistence into adulthood. Obesity has a negative impact on health such as susceptibility to disease and reducing quality of life.  The purpose of this study was to analyze the factors associated with maternal feeding practices in toddlers based on the Health Belief Model Theory. This study is an analytic study with a cross sectional design. The study subjects were 178 mothers who had overweight toddlers and fulfilled the inclusion criteria. Feeding practices were measured using Semi Quantitative Food Frequency and other variables using a structured questionnaire. The results of the analysis using Chi-Square showed that there was an association between perceived susceptibility (p value = 0.020), perceived benefit (p value = 0.024), self-efficacy (p value = 0.018) and cues to action (p value = 0.014). Meanwhile, perceived severity beliefs, and perceived barrier beliefs were not significantly associated with maternal practices in feeding toddlers. The results of multivariate testing using logistic regression showed that perceived susceptibility was the variable that had the strongest effect on the practice of feeding toddlers with OR = 4.067. It can be concluded that mothers who have low susceptibility beliefs have a 4-fold risk opportunity to carry out feeding practices that risk obesity compared to mothers who have high susceptibility beliefs. Keywords: Childhood Obesity, Feeding Practices, Toddlers, Health Belief Model  ABSTRAK Status gizi lebih baik itu overweight maupun obesitas disebabkan oleh kelebihan asupan nutrisi.
