Abstract

Mangrove merupakan salah satu ekosistem di wilayah pesisir yang mempunyai banyak fungsi dan peranan, namun ekosistem ini banyak mengalami kerusakan baik oleh faktor alam mauoun faktor manusia. Perbaikan kondisi ekosistem mangrove telah dilakukan oleh beberapa kalangan melalui penanaman bibit mangrove kembali. Tujuan kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini adalah untuk mensosialisasikan peranan mangrove kepada masyarakat dan melakukan aksi penanaman mangrove, khususnya anggota Kelompok Tani Hutan Konservasi Lingkungan Pesisir Desa Putri Sembilan. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan pada tanggal 10-11 Mei 2024 di Kecamatan Rupat Utara Kabupaten Bengkalis, Provinsi Riau. Metode pada kegiatan ini yaitu ceramah, tanya jawab, dan praktek penanaman bibit mangrove. Peningkatan pengetahuan masyarakat terkait peranan dan fungsi hutan mangrove dilakukan evaluasi dengan meminta peserta mengisi kuisioner sebelum dan setelah kegiatan dilakukan. Selanjutnya data yang diperoleh dianalisis secara deskriptif. Hasil yang diperoleh dari kegiatan ini adalah seluruh peserta mengikuti kegiatan dengan serius dengan mendengarkan materi yang disampaikan oleh tim penyuluh dari awal sampai akhir. Hasil evaluasi melalui diskusi menunjukkan bahwa sebagian besar peserta sebelum adanya kegiatan pengabdian telah mengetahui peranan fisik hutan mangrove dalam melindungi pantainya dari abrasi dan meningkat setelah kegiatan. Selanjutnya, sebelum penyuluhan sebagian besar peserta sudah mengetahui mangrove dapat ditanam melalui buah dan bibit. Seluruh peserta mengetahui adanya lahan yang terabrasi. Sebagian peserta mengetahui fungsi biologi hutan mangrove sebagai tempat hidup berbagai biota perairan, namun setelah dijelaskan menjadi semuanya dapat mengetahuinya. Pada akhir kegiatan semua peserta menyatakan kegiatan pengabdian bermanfaat untuk menambah pemahamannya tentang peranan mangrove, sehingga keberadaan mangrove sangat penting untuk melindungi pantai dari abrasi.

Abstract

Desa Buruk Bakul yang terdapat di wilayah pesisir Pulau Sumatera merupakan penghasil ikan laut di daerah Kabupaten Bengkalis Provinsi Riau. Beberapa jenis ikan ekonomis penting seperti ikan terubuk (Tenualosa macrura), tenggiri (Scomberomorus commerson), debuk (Arius thalassinus), biang (Septipina sp), dan lomek (Harpodon nehereus) diperoleh dari hasil tangkapan nelayan di desa tersebut. Ikan-ikan tersebut biasanya dijual dalam bentuk segar, namun jika tidak habis terjual, sebagian hanya diolah menjadi ikan kering dan kerupuk ikan. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat (PKM) ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan kelompok Ibu Rumah Tangga (IRT) nelayan di Desa Bukit Batu dalam mengolah ikan-ikan seperti ikan tenggiri menjadi produk yang lebih bervariasi seperti bakso, nugget dan stik ikan. Program ini dilakukan dalam tiga tahapan, yaitu (1) pendekatan dan sosialisasi program, (2) pelatihan dan peningkatan kompetensi, dan (3) pendampingan kelompok, monitoring dan evaluasi. Kegiatan PKM melibatkan 25 IRT nelayan (60%) dan ibu-ibu rumah tangga lainnya. Pelaksanaan kegiatan juga dibantu oleh 10 orang mahasiswa KKN Terintegrasi UNRI 2023. Berdasarkan kegiatan PKM diperoleh hasil adanya peningkatan pengetahuan dan keterampilan peserta (85%) setelah mengikuti pelatihan tentang teknik diversifikasi olahan ikan. Hasil monitoring dan evaluasi menunjukkan bahwa 100% peserta program menyatakan program PKM sangat bermanfaat. Dari analisa keberlanjutan program menunjukkan bahwa terdapat 2 jenis pelatihan yang diinginkan oleh peserta, yaitu (1) pengolahan jenis olahan berbasis ikan yang lain, dan (2) pembuatan rancangan kemasan produk.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the distribution of total suspended solid concentration (TSS) in the waters around TPI Dumai. Water samples were taken from 12 sampling point from the waters during high and low tides to determine TSS concentration. The concentration of total suspended solids ranges from 60-130 mg/l. The concentration is relatively higher (>80 mg/l) in the area that is close to residential areas and TPI. The highest concentration of total suspended solids was 117 mg/l found in waters with a depth of 1-3 m, while the lowest was 81 mg/l found at the sampling point of 5,9. The distribution of chlorophyll-a concentration is relatively higher around the coast which is around 0.476-0.178 mg/l, and it's lower off the shore which is around 0.080-0.090 mg/l. The chlorophyll-a concentration is lower in waters far from the coast because there is no direct nutrient supply from the land. The regression analysis indicate that Tss and chlorophyll-a has a weak relationship between the two variables relatively weak but they are still affecting each other

Abstract

Global warming is one of the issues in the world today, characterized by an increase in the earth's temperature due to greenhouse gases. Mangrove forests are one of the blue carbon parameters that can utilize CO2 for photosynthesis and store it in the form of biomass and sediment well. Sediments serve as a growing medium and a place to accumulate various components, including carbon. Carbon stored in mangrove sediments tends to be greater than in other types of forests. The study aimed to determine sediment carbon stocks based on density and the relationship between mangrove density and estimated carbon stocks in sediments in the mangrove ecosystem of Apar Village, North Pariaman District. Mangrove sediment sampling was carried out using the Purpose Sampling technique, and the data obtained were analyzed using the Loss on Ignition method. The results showed that the highest average carbon stock in sediments was found at station 2 with medium density, which was 215,03 tonnes/ha, followed by station 3, which had a high density, with a value of 197,98 tonnes/ha, and the lowest average carbon stock was found at station 1 with medium density, which was 132,43 ind/ha. Future research is expected to observe carbon stocks in mangrove stands and litter in the Apar Village mangrove ecosystem to obtain more detailed information

Abstract

Mapping sea surface temperature and coral reef distribution is vital for understanding the marine environment's dynamics and developing effective conservation strategies. The ideal temperature for coral reefs is between 27-29ºC. This research aims to describe and analyze the relationship between sea surface temperature and chlorophyll-α to the potential zone of coral reefs in Padang City, West Sumatra. The data used in this research is MODIS Aqua level 3 imagery data with 4 km resolution. The imagery processing stages include imagery data processing using SeaDAS software, namely the cropping and reprojection process, and ArcGIS software, namely the interpolation and classification process and map layouting. The results showed that the classification of the distribution of sea surface temperature in Padang City ranged from 26-29ºC, and the average concentration of chlorophyll-α distribution was 1.41 mg/m3. Based on these results, it can be concluded that Padang city waters have an ideal sea surface temperature for coral reefs and are supported by a reasonably high chlorophyll-α concentration.

Abstract

Community structure refers to the arrangement and composition of species in a natural community and their abundance. Ecologists use various indices to assess community structure, including diversity index, evenness index, and dominance index. One helpful indicator for evaluating water quality is the presence and characteristics of macrozoobenthos, organisms living in the sediment of aquatic environments. The study focused on the community structure of macrozoobenthos as an indicator of water quality in the coastal waters of Pariaman City, West Sumatra. Conducted between February and March 2023, the research analyzed samples collected from the Marine Biology and Marine Chemistry Laboratories at Universitas Riau. Findings revealed the presence of 7 phylum, eight genera, and 16 macrozoobenthos species, with abundance ranging from 8.56 Ind/m2 to 18.44 ind/m2. The diversity index indicated moderate diversity, while the evenness index suggested an uneven distribution of individuals. No dominant species were found. Abstract

This research was conducted in May 2022 in the coastal waters of Lalang Village, Siak Regency. This study aims to analyze the abundance and diversity of phytoplankton. The method used is the survey method by determining the sampling location by purposive sampling. Based on the results of the study, 6 species of phytoplankton were found in the coastal waters of Lalang Village, Siak Regency, namely Nitzschia sp, Isthmia sp, Navicula, Dactylococcopsis sp, Flagilaria sp, and Synedra sp. The average value of abundant phytoplankton at station 1 ranged from 1,938.61 to 479.68; at station 2 it ranged from 3,046.40 to 479.68; at station 3 it ranged around 1,384.72 to 479.68. Based on the results, the abundance of phytoplankton at each station was significant

Pada kegiatan pengabdian ini, metode yang digunakan adalah ceramah, tanya jawab, dan praktek penanaman bibit mangrove dengan melibatkan secara langsung mansyarakat, mahasiswa Angkatan 2023 dan alumni serta dosen S3 Ilmu Lingkungan Universitas Riau. Peningkatan pengetahuan masyarakat terkait peranan dan fungsi hutan mangrove dilakukan evaluasi dengan meminta peserta mengisi kuisioner sebelum dan setelah kegiatan dilakukan. Selanjutnya data yang diperoleh dianalisis secara deskriptif. Kegiatan penyuluhan ini menunjukkan hasil bahwa seluruh peserta mengikuti kegiatan dengan serius dengan mendengarkan materi yang disampaikan oleh tim penyuluh dari awal sampai akhir. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan bahwa sebagian besar peserta (90%) sebelum adanya kegiatan pengabdian telah mengetahui peranan fisik hutan mangrove dalam melindungi pantai dari abrasi dan meningkat menjadi 100 % setelah kegiatan. Selanjutnya sebelum penyuluhan masih ada sekitar 10% peserta yang belum mengetahui mangrove dapat ditanam melalui buah dan bibit, menjadi 100 % mengetahuinya setelah penyuluhan. Sebagian besar peserta ini merupakan petani yang lahannya terabrasi maka ada sekitar 60% peserta belum mengetahui fungsi biologi hutan mangrove sebagai tempat hidup berbagai biota perairan, namun setelah dijelaskan menjadi semuanya (100%) dapat mengetahuinya. Pada akhir kegiatan semua peserta (100%) menyatakan kegiatan pengabdian bermanfaat untuk menambah pemahamannya tentang peranan mangrove, sehingga keberadaan mangrove sangat penting untuk melindungi pantai dari abrasi.

Abstract

Communal IPAL is a sanitation infrastructure in the form of a building that is used to process community waste which is used communally. Communities play an important role in communal wastewater treatment plants (IPAL) because they are the users and owners of the wastewater sources that must be treated. This research aims to analyze the factors that influence Community Participation in the management of Communal Waste Water Treatment Plants (IPAL) in Kampar Regency. This research is quantitative with an analytical cross-sectional study design (Analytical Cross Sectional Study). The data in this research is primary data obtained by distributing questionnaires. The variables studied were the dependent variable (community participation in managing the Communal IPAL) and the independent variable (knowledge, education, economy and government support). The research results show that there is a significant relationship between economic knowledge (Pvalue 0.002) and government support (Pvalue 0.02) with community participation in the management of Communal IPAL in Kampar Regency. and there is no relationship between education and community participation in the management of Communal IPAL in Kampar Regency (Pvalue 0.069). It is hoped that the community can actively participate in the operation and maintenance of the communal IPAL and that the government will always accompany the community using the communal IPAL in operational and maintenance activities.

Abstract

The Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) phenomenon is a phenomenon that occurs in the Indian Ocean due to differences in sea surface temperature anomalies between the Western Indian Ocean and Eastern Indian Ocean regions. This interaction produces high pressure in the Eastern Indian Ocean (South of Java and West of Sumatra) which causes the flow of air masses to blow westward. The IOD phenomenon affects oceanographic parameters such as sea surface temperature, salinity, currents, and sea level rise in Indonesian waters. The Malacca Strait is a very important waterway because it connects the Indian Ocean and the South China Sea (Pacific Ocean) so it is strongly influenced by the IOD phenomenon. This research was conducted from November 2022 - February 2023. Global data collection in this study was located in the waters of the Strait of Melaka and data collection for validation was carried out in the waters of North Rupat. This study uses data analysis using secondary data and primary data to validate the secondary data used so that it can prove that the global data in this study are accurate. The results of this study found that in the period 2013 - 2022, the range of sea surface temperature of the Malacca Strait is 27 - 32°C. The salinity of the Malacca Strait waters ranges from 32.54 - 33.49 ppt. The current speed in the Malacca Strait is classified as weak to strong with the direction of movement of the Malacca Strait ocean currents back and forth. The Malacca Strait waters have a mixed tidal type of double daily inclination with an F value of 0.6 cm. The sea level rise in the Malacca Strait ranges from 0.50 - 0.76 cm. The IOD phenomenon affects sea surface temperature, salinity, sea level rise, and current velocity depending on the IOD phase.
