Abstract

The purpose of this study was to identify the geometric thinking level of students and determine the effect of gender on the geometric thinking level of pre-service mathematics students. This study is quantitative where data analysis using Mann Witney test. The sample of this research is 55 pre-service mathematics students prospective students consisting of 33 women and 22 men. The instrument in this study is the Van Hiele Geometry Test which consists of 25 multiple-choice questions. The data were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney U test. The results showed that male students were 36.36% at the visualization level, 40.91% at the analytical level, 9.09% at the informal deduction level, 9.09% at the rigor level. and the remaining 4.55% are in the pre-recognition category. Meanwhile, for female students, as many as 27.27% at the visualization level, 33.33% at the analytical level, 18.18% at the informal deduction level, 3.03% at the deduction level, 3.03% at the rigor level, and the remaining 15 .15% are in the pre-recognition category. In addition to the categories above, based on data analysis, it was found that there was no gender effect on the students' geometric thinking level.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to describe how the conditions of learning carried out online during the pandemic. Then what are the challenges faced and the advantages felt by teachers through online learning, as well as solutions from teachers related to increasing the effectiveness of learning mathematics during the pandemic. This research is quantitative-qualitative research. The subjects in this study amounted to 11 teachers of mathematics. The data collection instrument used a questionnaire regarding teacher responses about learning mathematics in the pandemic era. The results show that the applications used by teachers to assist the learning process include WhatsApp, Google Classroom, and others. However, there are several obstacles faced by teachers during the online learning process, for example limited facilities and the delivery of learning materials that are not optimal. The government needs to provide the needs of schools and students for online learning. Teachers also state that learning videos can help students learn during the pandemic.

Abstract

Kemampuan komunikasi matematis menjadi salah satu kemampuan matematika yang wajib dimiliki siswa. Salah satu faktor yang  dapat mempengaruhi kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa adalah kecerdasan, diantaraya kecerdasan interpersonal dan kecerdasan matematis-logis. Kecerdasan interpersonal dibutuhkan untuk dapat memiliki kemampuan komunikasi yang baik. Sedangkan kecerdasan matematis-logis dibutuhkan untuk menyelesaikan permasalahan matematis dengan benar. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah terdapat pengaruh kecerdasan interpersonal dan kecerdasan matematis-logis terhadap kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa kelas VIII SMP Negeri 2 Praya baik secara parsial maupun simultan. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian korelasional dengan metode kuantitatif. Populasi penelitian ini seluruh siswa kelas VIII SMP Negeri 2 Praya tahun ajaran 2021/2022. Pengambilan sampel ditentukan menggunakan simple random sampling sehingga diperoleh sampel penelitian yaitu siswa kelas VIII.2 dan VIII.5. Analisis data pada penelitian ini menggunakan analisis regresi sederhana dan analisis regresi ganda. Sebelum melakukan uji hipotesis, peneliti terlebih dahulu melakukan uji prasyarat yaitu uji normalitas, uji linearitas, uji multikolinearitas dan uji heteroskedastisitas. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa: 1) kecerdasan interpersonal memiliki pengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa dengan kontribusi sebesar 9,3%; 2) kecerdasan matematis-logis memiliki pengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa dengan kontribusi sebesar 15,1%; 3) kecerdasan interpersonal dan kecerdasan matematis-logis memiliki pengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa dengan kontribusi sebesar 16,7%.  Sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa kecerdasan interpersonal dan kecerdasan matematis-logis memiliki pengaruh posistif dan signifikan terhadap kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa kelas VIII SMP Negeri 2 Praya tahun ajaran 2021/2022 baik secara parsial maupun simultan.

Abstract

This study aims to describe mathematical communication skills in terms of visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning styles on the material of a two-variable linear equation system. The type of research is descriptive research. The research instrument are learning style questionnaire, a mathematical communication skill test, and an interview guide. Taking the subject in this study by purposive sampling, obtained 6 students of class VIII-1 SMPN 5 Bima City where 2 students with visual learning styles, 2 students with auditory learning styles, and 2 students with kinesthetic learning styles. The six students were given questions about mathematical communication skills tests and interviews. The results are mathematical communication skills of students with visual learning style is in the sufficient category, and students with auditory and kinesthetic learning styles had mathematical communication skills which are in less category. This is indicated by students with visual learning style who are able to fulfill the indicators of writing and mathematical expression but are not able to fulfill the indicators of drawing. Students with auditory learning style and kinesthetic learning style are not able to fulfill the indicators of writing, mathematical expression, and drawing.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the mathematical communication ability that is reviewed from the cognitive style on SMP-IT students of Yarsi in academic year 2021/2022. This study used descriptive method. The sample chosen by using nonprobability sampling technique with purposive sampling type, and the VIII Al-Farabi class is chosen as the sample. The subject selection technique in this research is based on the result of Group Embedded Figures Test (GEFT) consisted of 4 students. The instrument used is the essay test to acquire the data of students’ mathematic communication ability, while the Group Embedded Figures Test (GEFT) is used to determine the cognitive style and the interview from the students. From the research result, it is concluded that: (a) Students with Field Independent (FI) cognitive style have a good mathematic communication. The students in this stage are able to write and explain the mathematic idea logically and systematically, state the mathematical problem into drawing or table clearly and precisely, and also able to use the mathematical terms and symbols correctly. (b) Students with Field Dependent (FD) have the mathematic communication that is said to be not quite enough. The students in this stage are incapable to write and explain the mathematic idea logically and systematically, state the mathematical problem into drawing or table precisely and accurately, and also unable to use the mathematic terms and symbols correctly.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the types of errors of students who have visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning styles in solving story problems of opportunity material. Error analysis was carried out based on the Newman procedure. The type of research used is descriptive qualitative research. The subjects of this study were students of class IX-A SMP Negeri 7 Mataram in the academic year 2021/2022 who were selected using a purposive sampling technique, then 2 students were selected from each type of learning style. Data collection techniques used are learning style questionnaires, story test questions, and interview guidelines. Based on the research results, it is known that 18 students have a visual learning style, 10 students have an auditory learning style and 2 students have a kinesthetic learning style. The data obtained from the research are: (i) students with visual learning styles tend to make transformation and encoding errors, (ii) students with auditory learning styles tend to make comprehension, transformation, process skill, and encoding errors, and (iii) students with kinesthetic learning styles tend to make comprehension, transformation, process skill, an encoding error. Although at first glance it looks the same, there are differences in the errors of students with auditory learning styles and students with kinesthetic learning styles, where in the process skill error of students with auditory learning styles are wrong in the calculation process while students with kinesthetic learning styles do not perform calculations to completion (jammed).

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the perceptions of mathematics education students related to the transition of online learning in pandemic era to blended learning in new normal era. The subjects of this study were 44 students of mathematics education department in academic year 2021/2022 in Mataram University. The research method implemented was descriptive qualitative. The data collection technique used questionnaires. The data in this study were analysed using statistics. Based on the findings, there were 50% of students selected full offline learning, 16% of students selected full online learning, and 34% of students selected blended learning. There were 61% of students considered that full online learning was sometimes effective, however 30% of them considered that it was ineffective, and 9% considered it effective. There were 42% of students stated that online learning was appropriate to be implemented in the learning materials related to education, 17% stated that it was appropriate to be implemented in the learning materials related to mathematics, 29% stated that there was no appropriate materials, and 12% stated that every material was suitable to implemennt online learning. It can be concluded that onlne learning is effective if it is combined with offline learning as a blended learning.

Abstract

Advances in technology and information today are the application of various sciences and the underlying science is mathematics. Mathematics is one of the basic provisions that are important to master in dealing with increasingly complex life problems. Through mastery of mathematics, it makes someone have good logical thinking in solving the problems at hand. In terms of responding to problems that arise, making decisions, and prioritizing appropriately, it is necessary to involve analytical skills and mathematical logic. However, many students do not know the application of mathematics in various disciplines. This community service activity is carried out in the form of an educational workshop with the theme Utilization of Mathematical Concepts in everyday life. The target of this community service activity is students from various study programs at the University of Qamarul Huda Badaruddin (UNIQHBA). Through this activity, it is hoped that it can contribute to the entire UNIQHBA academic community regarding the application of mathematics in various fields, especially culture, economics, and development, providing examples of skills related to mathematics so that they have more insight and are ready to compete in the world of work.

Abstract

In the 2019 survey, 82.2% of teachers never participated in media training, especially learning media based on geogebra technology. Meanwhile, 92.8% of teachers stated that mathematics requires learning media. The low quality of education in NTB requires special attention from both the government and the private sector, so it is important to conduct technology-based learning media training in order to improve the quality of education, especially improving the quality of teachers. The training was carried out using offline and online methods for two days, 19 and 20 August 2021 at SMPN 16 Mataram. The training was attended by 22 participants from junior high school mathematics teachers in the city of Mataram. In the implementation of the training, an evaluation was carried out using questionnaires and observations. The conclusions from the results of the service were as follows: Geogebra training as a medium for learning mathematics for SMP teachers in the city of Mataram in 2021 received a very good response and was well received by the teachers. Geogebra training as a medium for learning mathematics for junior high school teachers in the city of Mataram in 2021 is very in line with what is expected by mathematics teachers in the City of Mataram and increases teacher competence in the context of applying technology in learning to develop technology-based mathematics learning media.

Abstract

As an effort to develop the teaching profession, Lesson Study for Learning Community (LSLC) emphasizes the importance of collaborative and continuous learning assessment based on the principles of collegiality and mutual learning to build a learning community. Based on discussions with the head of Darussholihin Islamic Boarding School (Ponpes) NW Kalijaga, East Lombok, principals of MTs-SMP, MA-SMA, and Vocational Schools fostered by Ponpes Darussholihin NW Kalijaga, it was revealed that: mathematics is one of the subjects that most students are less interested in. MTs-SMP, MA-SMA, SMK fostered by Ponpes Darussholihin NW Kalijaga, as well as most mathematics teachers still have difficulty planning and implementing learning strategies that can guide students in finding mathematical concepts, principles, and problem solving. To solve these problems, assistance is needed, through LSLC activities for school mathematics teachers at Ponpes Darussholihin NW Kalijaga, in order to resolve problems related to the implementation of mathematics learning. This service activity is carried out by utilizing several methods, namely: lectures, questions and answers, discussions, and providing assistance when mathematics teachers carry out the LSLC steps, including Plan, Do, See, and Re-design activities. Through mentoring activities carried out from September 18 to October 2, 2021, it was concluded that mentoring activities could: i) improve the understanding and skills of Mathematics teachers in schools at Ponpes Darussholihin NW Kalijaga in designing (plan), implementing (do), reflecting (see), and re-design of learning as regulated in the 2013 curriculum; ii) increasing collegiality among mathematics teachers at the Darussholihin Islamic Boarding School's fostered schools, NW Kalijaga.
