Abstract

This study aims to investigate the effect of pH variations and collector types on the recovery efficiency and Cu content in copper sulfide mineral samples. The experiment was conducted by varying the pH (6, 8, 10, and 12) and using different types of collectors, namely Xanthate, Potassium Amyl Xanthate (PAX), Diethyl Dithiophosphate (DTP), and a combination of PAX + DTP. Control variables included flotation time (5, 10, 15, 20, and 25 minutes), collector concentration at 50 mg/L, particle size <75 µm, and the use of Frother Methyl Isobutyl Carbinol (MIBC) at a concentration of 10 mg/L. Modifiers such as NaOH and H₂SO₄ were used to adjust the pH, while Copper Sulfate (CuSO₄) served as an activator and Sodium Metabisulfite (Na₂S₂O₅) as a depressant. The results showed that variations in pH and collector types significantly influenced recovery efficiency and Cu content in the concentrate. In general, the highest recovery efficiency was achieved at pH 10 with the combination of PAX + DTP, which resulted in a higher Cu content compared to other single collectors. This combination was able to improve recovery efficiency to over 75%, with Cu content in the concentrate reaching 28%. Therefore, the findings suggest the use of a collector combination and pH optimization as strategies to enhance the performance of copper sulfide flotation.

Abstract

Green chemistry is a relevant approach in supporting meaningful and sustainability-oriented chemistry learning. This study aims to (1) analyze the implementation and integration of green chemistry principles in chemistry learning, (2) analyze its role in realizing meaningful learning, (3) analyze its impact on students’ conceptual understanding and environmental awareness attitudes, and (4) analyze the challenges and opportunities of its implementation. This research uses a qualitative approach with a literature review design of accredited national journal articles and reputable international journals from the 2020–2026 period. Out of 40 identified articles, 24 articles were analyzed using thematic analysis. The results show that (1) the implementation of green chemistry is carried out through active learning, development of instructional materials, utilization of technology, and contextual approaches; (2) green chemistry plays a role in realizing meaningful learning by connecting concepts to environmental issues; (3) its integration has a positive impact on students’ conceptual understanding and environmental awareness attitudes, although the level of improvement is generally moderate; and (4) its implementation still faces challenges related to teacher competence, learning resources, and curriculum support, but it also has opportunities for further development. The conclusion of this study is that green chemistry plays a strategic role in realizing meaningful chemistry learning by linking chemical concepts to real environmental problems and supporting sustainable chemistry education.

Abstract

The study of chemistry in living systems through a contextual approach based on local wisdom aims to (1) identify publication trends; (2) identify dominant research subjects; (3) examine learning approaches; (4) identify chemical materials most frequently associated with living systems; (5) describe forms of local wisdom integration; and (6) examine the research methods used. This study uses the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method with a qualitative descriptive design for articles from the 2020–2026 period. The research procedure includes identification, selection, analysis, and synthesis of articles based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. The research objects are scientific articles on local wisdom-based chemistry learning. Data were collected through scientific database searches and analyzed descriptively. Of the 50 articles found, 17 articles met the analysis criteria. The results of the study show that: (1) publications increased in 2023–2025; (2) research subjects were dominated by high school students; (3) the ethnochemical approach was most widely used; (4) frequently studied materials included acids and bases, environmental chemistry, and colloidal systems; (5) integration of local wisdom is carried out through cultural analogies, utilization of local resources, and the environment as a learning context; and (6) type of research dominated by qualitative and development approaches. In conclusion, local wisdom-based chemistry learning has the potential to strengthen the relevance of learning and students' chemical literacy.

Abstract

Measuring critical thinking skills (CTS) in the topic of atomic structure requires a diagnostic instrument capable of capturing students' reasoning patterns accurately, rather than merely distinguishing between correct and incorrect answers. This study aimed to develop and evaluate a complex multiple-choice diagnostic instrument based on the Rasch model to measure students' CTS on the concept of atomic structure. The instrument comprised ten items developed based on Facione's six dimensions of critical thinking: interpretation, analysis, evaluation, inference, explanation, and self-regulation. Data were collected from 850 senior high school students in Gorontalo, Indonesia, and analyzed using the Partial Credit Model (PCM) approach with WINSTEPS 4.5.5 software. Results indicated that item reliability was very high (0.99; separation = 10.63), while person reliability was moderate (0.61; Cronbach's Alpha = 0.65). Infit and Outfit MNSQ values ranged within the ideal threshold (0.99–1.00) with ZSTD values approaching zero, confirming adequate model fit. Category Probability Curve (CPC) analysis confirmed that response categories functioned sequentially, while the Wright Map demonstrated a progressive difficulty hierarchy from the interpretation to the self-regulation dimension. Differential Item Functioning (DIF) analysis revealed differential difficulty levels based on gender and grade level, particularly for self-regulation items, which proved more challenging for female students and Grade XI students. These findings underscore the importance of considering cognitive factors and learning experience in developing Rasch-based CTS diagnostic instruments for chemistry education
