Abstract

The Community Service (CS) program took place in Sumberingin Kidul Village, Ngunut District, Tulungagung Regency, approximately 100 km southwest of Malang City. The target group for this program includes small and medium enterprises (SMEs) engaged in koi fish spawning. Our partners face several challenges, primarily the reliance on aeration pumps powered by the national electricity grid (PLN) to supply oxygen to the ponds. The program aimed to install a 100 Wp solar panel system to generate clean energy for a low-voltage aeration pump, helping to maintain optimal oxygen levels in the pond and supporting healthy fish growth. The program successfully implemented this solar-powered aerator pump system in the pond area, providing an innovative, sustainable solution that empowers the community by integrating science and technology into fisheries. It is hoped that this program will inspire other fish farmers in Tulungagung and surrounding areas to adopt similar sustainable practices.

Abstract

This study discusses the cooling of water with a system of spraying it into the free air. The energy source to drive the pump uses energy from sunlight. This research is to solve a problem in an area where it is difficult to get water so that the water for the cooling process must be cooled so that it can be used for the next process. The second problem is that the electrical energy is very minimal, so you have to use other energy that can be used for the cooling process. The process of cooling the water spray system into the air was chosen to solve this problem. The tools used in this study were a 600 Wp solar cell, a 300 W water pump and a spray pipe. The research was conducted during the dry season in August. The research results show that the temperature of the water in the pool is not homogeneous the deeper the water in the pool the lower the temperature. The higher the pool water temperature, the longer the cooling time will be. The greater the pump discharge, the faster it will take to cool the pool water. Solar energy is able to supply energy to drive pumps with pool water temperatures up to 45 C. This cooling system can be used at night because it is equipped with batteries. The results of this research can be used and developed to create a larger system. This cooling system does not cause any impact on the environment because the energy source is from sunlight which is environmentally friendly.

Abstract

MIG (Metal Inert Gas) welding is a welding process that uses rolled electrodes which are the same as the base metal and uses a protective gas.  Aluminum is one of the most commonly used metals in the industrial world. Connecting aluminum by welding is a challenge in itself because of its high heat conductivity. This is why a lot of research has been carried out on welding aluminum. This research aims to investigate the effect of travel speed on the tensile strength and macro structure of welds from the robotic welding process. The research was carried out using experimental methods and observing the macro structure of the fracture results. The research results, it was found that changes in welding speed (travel speed) in the aluminum MIG welding process showed a decreasing trend in maximum tensile strength. The highest tensile strength was obtained at the TS variation of 40 mm/minute, while at TS 70 mm/minute the tensile strength was lower. The higher the welding speed, the lower the resulting tensile strength. This is due to reduced heat applied which affects weld penetration and metal joining. A lower welding speed results in better penetration and higher tensile strength, but a speed that is too slow can cause overheating and damage the metal micro structure. The macro structure of the fracture, it was found that higher welding speeds cause fractures that tend to be brittle with defects such as porosity, which can also reduce tensile strength

Abstract

Damage to the grating after being passed by heavy vehicles from trucks carrying hot asphalt during road repairs with asphalting of roads in residential areas is a problem faced. The purpose of community service is to obtain grating made of strong steel that can be passed by trucks loaded with stone or sand or asphalt with a full load and can be entered by rainwater and passed by heavy vehicles without sagging or damage, but can be opened and closed again if desired for cleaning or repairing water gutters. The method applied is a discussion with residents to determine the desired model design, make adequate gratings, install gratings, trials and modifications, and submit to the Head of RT 03 where the gratings are installed. With the installation of good gratings, it is hoped that the safety of residents or guest vehicles can be guaranteed in traffic in the area. Thus, there is synergy between the State Polytechnic of Malang (Polinema) and residents in order to realize safety in community life in RW 06 Tasikmadu, Lowokwaru, Malang City.

Abstract

The unknown torsional strength due to the inconsistency of the angles and dimensions of the square cross-section of AISI 1020 steel specimens in the torsion test is the problem encountered. The research method included: preparation of square AISI 1020 steel specimens measuring 6 mm x 6 mm x 160 mm, measurement of 2 diagonal angles of the cross section of the specimen and dimensions of the cross section at 5 observation points along the specimen receiving torsion loads, torsion testing of specimens, analysis of torsion test results data, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study affect the angle and dimensions of the specimen cross-section on the torsional strength of the AISI 1020 steel square shaft which has a greater value at the angles of 89o and 91o than 90o which with an angle of 89o at dimensions of 5.96 mm x 5.96 mm has a torsional strength of 412 MPa, while at an angle of 90o with dimensions of 5.96 mm x 5.96 mm it has a torsional strength of 359 MPa, and for an angle of 91o in dimensions of 5.95 mm x 5.95 mm has a torsional strength of 402 MPa. The average torsional strength is achieved in the range of 351 to 397 MPa, at an angle of 89o the torsional strength increases by 46 MPa or around 13.1 %, and at an angle of 91o the torsional strength increases by 43 MPa or around 12.3%.

Abstract

Bimetal joints are often used in various industries, such as automotive, power generation, electronics, and manufacturing. This is because bimetal joints allow the joining of two types of metal with different properties. Welding two different types of metal can pose its own challenges, such as the difficulty of controlling welding parameters so that the results are optimal for both types of metal, as well as differences in the thermal and mechanical properties of the two metals. This has led to extensive research on bimetal plate connections. Based on this background, this research aims to determine the effect of variations in flow rate and current strength on the tensile strength of robotic welding bimetal welded joints, as well as determine the results of macro photos of fractures resulting from tensile tests for each variation. The research was carried out experimentally where each variation was repeated with data 3 times. Based on the results and discussion, it is known that the optimal gas flow rate in general is 20 l/min, where the tensile strength reaches 353.1442 MPa–455.5458 MPa. At this flow rate, the dominant fracture occurs in the base metal and is ductile, which indicates good plastic deformation. On the other hand, gas flow that is too low or too high causes joint defects and reduces the tensile strength. Meanwhile, other welding parameters, namely variations in welding current, affect tensile strength. At a gas flow of 10 l/min, increasing the current to 180 A produces the highest tensile strength of 449.4357 MPa with ductile fracture characteristics. However, at a current of 120 A there is a significant decrease due to overheating, especially at higher gas flows such as 20 l/min and 30 l/min, which results in brittle fracture in the heat-affected zone (HAZ). The results of this research contribute to the understanding of the influence of welding parameters on the tensile strength and fracture characteristics of bimetallic joints. This research can be a reference for the development of more efficient and reliable welding processes in various industries, such as automotive, power generation and manufacturing, which require bimetallic joints with optimal quality.

Abstract

White oyster mushrooms (Pleurotus ostreatus) represent a vital agricultural commodity and a major source of income for residents of Dusun Wiloso, Desa Gondowangi, Kecamatan Wagir, Kabupaten Malang. Despite their economic potential, the productivity of local mushroom farmers remains constrained by the conventional manual process of preparing baglog planting media, which involves mixing wood sawdust and rice bran. This traditional method is not only labor-intensive and time-consuming but also prone to inconsistencies that may damage the planting media and reduce overall yields. In response to these challenges, the Community Service Program (PPM) introduced an innovative training and technology transfer initiative focused on the design, fabrication, and utilization of a mushroom planting media mixing machine. This intervention effectively mechanizes the mixing process, thereby improving production efficiency, ensuring greater uniformity and quality of the planting media, and enhancing cultivation outcomes. Beyond its technical advantages, the program promotes local capacity building by expanding community knowledge in mechanical engineering and fabrication, fostering innovation, and stimulating entrepreneurial opportunities among local fabrication workshops. These workshops play a strategic role in sustaining the availability of appropriate agricultural technologies, supporting the continuous improvement of mushroom cultivation systems, and strengthening the region’s technological independence. Consequently, this PPM initiative not only addresses critical production bottlenecks but also contributes to broader goals of rural economic development, technological empowerment, and sustainable community self-reliance within Dusun Wiloso.
