Abstract

The adaptability of education systems to technological change is a critical and inevitable demand. This study explores the unpreparedness of Indonesian madrasah teachers in adapting to the ongoing digitalization of religious education. Using a grounded qualitative approach with descriptive analysis, data were collected through observations, interviews, and document analysis. The findings reveal that teachers struggle to adapt to digital-based religious instruction, primarily due to difficulties operating technological tools. This unpreparedness is further exacerbated by limited technological infrastructure and low levels of digital literacy among teachers. As a result, the effectiveness of religious education is hindered, and instructional time is often used inefficiently. The study underscores the urgent need to improve technological infrastructure and enhance teachers’ digital competencies to better support the digital transformation of education in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study explores the cultural and educational significance of Nandong Smong, a traditional oral literature form from Simeulue Island, Indonesia, which functions as both a disaster narrative and a medium of intergenerational knowledge transfer. The objective of this research is to analyze the lyrical content and sociocultural meaning embedded in the Smong song to understand its role in tsunami preparedness and collective memory among Simeulue communities. The study employed a qualitative approach, with data collected through direct observation in Simeulue and in-depth interviews with several local elders, who were asked to interpret the meanings and messages of the Smong lyrics. These primary data sources were supported by secondary data obtained from YouTube, where Smong songs were transcribed and examined word-by-word for textual analysis. The results reveal that Nandong Smong is not merely an artistic expression but a crucial oral tradition rooted in the island’s historical experience of the 1907 tsunami. The lyrics contain warnings, survival strategies, and moral teachings that emphasize local wisdom, memory, and collective responsibility. Furthermore, the discussion highlights the effectiveness of oral literature in shaping communal resilience and transmitting indigenous knowledge through non-formal education. The conclusion emphasizes the need to preserve Nandong Smong as both an intangible cultural heritage and an alternative model for disaster education. This research implies that integrating local narratives into disaster risk reduction strategies may enhance community preparedness in disaster-prone areas. Therefore, it is recommended that policymakers and educators consider incorporating oral traditions such as Nandong Smong into formal educational curricula and community-based disaster awareness programs.

Abstract

Ecotourism-based village tourism is a sustainable development strategy that balances economic, social, and ecological aspects. Bimomartani Village, Sleman, has the potential for reservoirs, agriculture, rural landscapes, and local culture, but is hampered by limited human resource capacity and digital promotion. This community service activity aims to formulate a collaborative strategy for ecotourism development through human resource development and digital promotion using the Participatory Action Research (PAR) method, which involves the community in planning and reflection. Results show that training in hospitality, homestay management, tourism narratives, and digital marketing increased community engagement. The pentahelix collaborative model also strengthens the synergy between government, academics, communities, the private sector, and the media. In conclusion, a collaborative strategy based on human resources and digitalization can realize inclusive, technology-adaptive, and sustainable community ecotourism in Bimomartani Village.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the worship model of Agama Djawa Soenda (ADS) from the perspective of Islamic education. This research focuses on how spiritual and moral values in ADS can contribute to character-building in Islamic education. The research method used is qualitative, with data collection techniques through in-depth interviews and participatory observation of ADS adherents and document studies. The data were analyzed descriptively to explore the similarities and differences between ADS worship practices and Islamic education. The results show that, substantively, ADS has many similarities with Islam, especially in the aspects of divinity, environmental preservation, respect for parents, and nationalism. However, there are differences in the technical aspects of worship, where ADS is more influenced by local Javanese culture, while Islam follows standardized worship procedures based on sharia. The study concludes that the noble values of ADS, such as nature conservation and social ethics, have the potential to be integrated into Islamic education without having to sacrifice the basic principles of Sharia. This research offers a new contribution to understanding the interaction between local religion and Islamic education, as well as the importance of an inclusive approach in education that respects religious and cultural diversity in Indonesia.

Abstract

This article aims to explain how cultural misaccommodation of rituals in local communities can occur. Bissu as a component of society comes along with negotiations to maintain the rituals and religiosity that have shaped their identity. The presence of bissu in the ritual procession is an authority that they have culturally. Throughout the history of civilisation, bissu were the main, sacred and central party in the ritual procession. However, what happened on Bone's 62nd anniversary was a moment when bissu were not involved. This article is based on data obtained from online searches. News and article searches were conducted as a basis for analysing the cultural misaccommodation of local communities. This article shows that the misaccommodation of bissu in the ritual procession is a weakening of identity and existence. The government in this case becomes the party that eliminates bissu from its roots, the dynamics of polarisation of the ruling group along with a set of laws make bissu misaccommodation a hegemony. Along with the society that places bissu as a minority party, both socially and culturally. Therefore, it is necessary to affirm the authority of bissu as a party that maintains cultural sustainability.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the practices of transformational leadership implemented by the principal, who concurrently holds the role of a guidance and counseling teacher at SMPN 3 Cikembar, within the context of Education 4.0.  The main focus of this study is to understand how these leadership practices are implemented, the factors that support their success, and their impact on the school's readiness to face digital challenges and educational innovation in the era of 4.0. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study method, involving the principal, teachers, and students as key informants. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study show that the principal applies seven forms of transformative leadership, including modeling, inspiration, giving appreciation, supporting creativity, discussion forums, empathy for school members, and digitizing learning. The success of these practices is supported by personal commitment, a background in guidance and counseling, the ability to handle multiple tasks, and collegial support from teachers. In conclusion, humanistic-based transformative leadership can create a collaborative and adaptive school environment. This study recommends ongoing training/workshops, inter-school collaboration systems, and a humanistic approach to educational leadership to effectively address the challenges of the 4.0 era.

Abstract

Zakat, which is supposed to be for the alleviation of poverty, has actually been a source of problems because of the fact that the distribution has not been in line with its objectives. This current study addresses the inequality in the distribution of zakat to impoverished urban. The distribution of zakat is one of the substantial instruments for the Islamic financial ecosystem to alleviate poverty. The distribution of zakat aims to cater to impoverished communities’ needs and provide financial protection. This study relays on a descriptive qualitative research design where data were obtained through interviews and literature study. The data is used to analyse the concept of inequality in relation to poverty as a result of the unequal distribution of zakat. The results of this study indicate that the distribution of zakat is personally and unequally distributed. The unequal distribution of zakat impacts the welfare of people experiencing poverty due to inequality in selecting zakat recipients. Not merely that, zakat, which is relatively small and temporary, cannot support the productive ability of people with low incomes to achieve prosperity. Therefore, it is necessary to assert the prioritized distribution of zakat.

Abstract

Underrepresentation of women still occurs in the top-level management of higher education, including in State Islamic Higher Education (SIHE/PTKIN) in Indonesia, a country with the largest Muslim population in the world. This study aims to reveal the portrait of women's underrepresentation in the top-level management of SIHE, the determinant factors that cause the underrepresentation of women in the top-level management of SIHE, and the policies that need to be taken in response to the underrepresentation of women in top-level management of SIHE. A qualitative approach was chosen for this study by collecting data using interviews and document reviews. It objectively shows the inequality between women and men in top-level management. Men still dominate strategic positions such as rector, vice-rector, and dean. This inequity is caused by qualification barriers of female lecturers, patriarchal culture, and gender-biased religious understanding. This inequity has an impact on the slow realization of gender-responsive campuses. Thus, through the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the Government must make affirmative policies to accelerate women's representation at the management level of SIHE so that more women occupy the positions of rector, vice-rector, and dean.
