Abstract

Acute respiratory infection (ARI) are leading causes of mortality and morbidity in children under the age of five in developing countries. The incidence and prevalence of ARI are a great burden in low and middle-income countries in comparison to high income ARI. The main objective of the study was to identify determinants of acute respiratory infections among child under five years in Surabaya. This is a case-control study conducted in Public Health Center (Puskesmas) in Surabaya. Data were collected by interviewing community with 1: 1 sample that consists of 66 sample of the case and 66 sample of control. Result: 34.1% was age group <24 months, 14.4% was low birth weight, 57.6% was without exclusive breastfeeding, 22.7% was not measles immunization. The determinant of acute respiratory infections among child under five years was exclusive breastfeeding which the significant showed consecutively p=0.582 (OR=4.163). The Community education programs should focus on addressing specific issues to identify the respiratory illness, simple case management, proper immunization practices, breastfeeding of infants.    Keywords: Child under five years, Acute respiratory infections, Determinants

Abstract

Background & objectives: Environmental risk factors, both physical and biological (e.g. ecology of vegetation/plants, forest), equally serve as the risk factors for Anopheles mosquitos breeding. This study was designed to determine a model of spatial mapping for the ecology of vegetation and the potential habitats for the Anopheles mosquitos. Methods: Descriptive epidemiological research was employed to carry out the project, supported with a cross-sectional design. The research took place in Kupang regency, Oesao village, lasting for 2 months from October to November 2014. The ecology of the vegetation and all habitats of the mosquitos in Oesao village were regarded as the population of the research. They were purposively sampled. Results: The vegetation mapping revealed that the land area for rice fields is 169 ha, coconut and banana tress 56.68 ha, maize 67.03 ha, vegetable plants 59.53 ha, forages 21.52 ha, and forests 16.24 ha. The results of the mapping also revealed that the mosquitos breeding sites entail paddy fields, swamps, irrigation channels, and damps. Interpretation & conclution: The ecology of all types of plants mapped serves as potential habitats for the Anopheles mosquitos breeding sites. Plant ecology is quite varied in the Oesao Village, as well as extensive areas of the plant that are closely linked to inadequate growth and development of mosquitoes  and  specific species of Anopheles,  An. vagus and An. annularis. Abstract

The Visual Inspection with Acetic Acid (VIA) is one of the methods to perform cervical cancer test by applying acetic acid. The huge number of cervical cancer cases in Indonesia has worsened because more than 80% of the cases that have been brought to hospitals were already in an advanced stage. The aim of the research is to analyse the variable influence: projection, self efficacy and intention toward the decision to perform early detection of cervical cancer with the VIA test. The research design was cross sectional. The population were women of childbearing age in Pematangsiantar and the samples size were 245 respondents selected by multistage random sampling. The variables were projection, self efficacy intention and decision. The statistical analysis was Structural Equation Modelling. The results of the study were: 1) self efficacy affects intention (p= 0.000), 2) projection affects intention (p= 0.000), 3) intention affects decision (p= 0.000). The models of projection, self efficacy and intention take effect on the decision to perform early detection of cervical cancer with the VIA. Abstract

Background: Nosocomial infection is infection that occurs in patients who are hospitalized. One of infection control programs is the surveillance activity.  Refer to the Instructions Practical Hospital nosocomial infections Surveillance by the Health Ministry (2011), computer usage in surveillance activities will increase the efficiency of data collection and analysis. The aim of this study is to develop recording and reporting nosocomial infection surveillance system. Methods: this study type was action research with System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) method wherein the stages of SDLC were planning, analysis, design, implementation and usage. The instruments used in this study were by creating DFD, ERD, data dictionary then continued with the development of applications using PHP and MySQL. Data collection was committed through interviews and observations. The results of this research was web-based applications tested using the method of Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). Abstract

Measles is a highly contagious disease caused by viruses that can be prevented by immunization and can be transmitted through coughing and sneezing. Measles is one of the five most common childhood diseases in the world. The purpose of this analysis is to describe the characteristics of measles cases in the East Java Provincial Health Office in 2018. This study was a descriptive study using a case report design, data obtained from measles case reports from 38 districts in East Java in January-December 2018. The sample in this study was all data on cases of measles suspicion reported in form C1. The data analysis test that will be used was using a descriptive test and chi-square test. Based on descriptive analysis test, it was found that measles cases were mostly in women (57.4%) and

Abstract

Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) is still a problem in Indonesia. TTS Regency is one of the districts in NTT province with high MMR. Efforts through PWS-KIA include a system of recording and reporting of maternal health services into one of the important strategies in suppressing MMR. The problem is that data management is still done conventionally. With the manual process of course many problems arise in the management process in the work unit. Information technology support is more advanced, conventional data management ways can be replaced with information systems using a computer. Data management also becomes faster and easier to obtain accurate data to use as a basis for decision making in the prevention of health problems. The purpose of this research is to develop a database of maternal health services in TTS District Health Office to assist midwives in managing data on maternal health services at health care center. Activities undertaken in the development of this database include identification of ongoing recording and reporting systems, identification of data and information needs, database design, testing and evaluation. The database is developed using PHP-MySQL web-based applications. In carrying out the data base it is necessary to support the power to operate the data base, facilities with sufficient specification, increase the capacity of personnel regarding the database developed. Keywords: Database, Recording and Reporting System of Maternal Health Services

Abstract

Malaria was a disease that caused many mortalities in developing countries. In solving this problem, it was needed a focused and directed mentoring continuously. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of malaria cadres on drug intake supervision, the use of mosquito net and environmental modification on malaria sufferers at Public Health Center of Waipukang. This research was analytic observational research with cross sectional study design. The results showed that the average knowledge of malaria cadres was still low. Malaria cadres in Public Health Center of Waipukang were less effective in monitoring the consuming of malaria drugs, mosquito nets usage, and environmental modification in their areas. Furthermore, there were 78% of people who used mosquito net properly and 54% of families obediently did environmental modification efforts.
