Abstract

This study assesses the financial feasibility of a privately financed infrastructure project under a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) scheme with a total investment of USD 76 million. The investment is distributed over a three-year construction phase, followed by a 30- to 60-year operation period generating annual net profits of USD 8.64 million. Key financial metrics including Net Present Value (NPV) and Internal Rate of Return (IRR) are utilized to evaluate the project. The results indicate a negative NPV of approximately USD -14.85 million for a 30-year operation, suggesting the project is not viable under a conservative time horizon. However, extending the operation to 60 years yields a positive NPV of USD +23.8 million and an estimated IRR of 11.7%, surpassing the assumed discount rate of 10%. These findings highlight the importance of operational duration in BOT projects and suggest that long-term operation is essential to achieve financial sustainability. Recommendations include extending the concession period and optimizing cost structures to enhance investment attractiveness.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the perspective of fiqh muamalah and contemporary Islamic law on the use of cryptocurrency in the modern economic system. The rapid advancement of digital technology has led to the emergence of cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other digital assets that function as means of payment and investment instruments. The main advantage of cryptocurrency lies in its decentralized system and the use of blockchain technology, which ensures security and transparency of transactions without the involvement of third parties. However, from an Islamic perspective, the use of cryptocurrency remains controversial due to the presence of gharar (uncertainty), maysir (speculation), and dharar (harm), arising from high price volatility, the absence of real asset backing, and its potential misuse for illegal activities. This research employs a qualitative descriptive method through a literature review of various scholarly sources, fatwas issued by the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), and opinions of contemporary Islamic scholars. The results indicate that most scholars view cryptocurrency as not meeting the criteria of a legitimate medium of exchange in Islam because it lacks intrinsic value and official recognition by state authorities. Nonetheless, Islam does not reject technological innovation as long as it aligns with sharia principles. Therefore, cryptocurrency may be acceptable if it is properly regulated, backed by tangible assets, and adheres to the principles of justice, transparency, and security in accordance with the objectives of maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah to preserve public welfare.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of digital technology has significantly transformed the landscape of Islamic financial institutions, including Baitul Maal wat Tamwil (BMT), which serves as a microfinance intermediary for empowering Muslim communities. This study aims to analyze the implementation of digitalization in BMT operations to improve the efficiency and accessibility of Islamic financial services. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through interviews, documentation, and observation of several BMTs that have adopted digital platforms in their financial management systems. The findings indicate that digitalization enhances operational efficiency by streamlining transaction processes, improving financial reporting accuracy, and expanding service coverage through mobile and online applications. However, challenges such as limited digital literacy, infrastructure constraints, and data security concerns remain obstacles to optimal implementation. The study concludes that successful digital transformation in BMT requires not only technological adoption but also human resource development and regulatory support from related institutions. The results of this research contribute to the development of Islamic microfinance management theory and provide practical insights for policymakers and BMT practitioners in promoting inclusive and efficient Sharia-based financial services.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the dynamics of applying Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh muamalah) principles within the digital economy framework in the era of Industry 5.0. The research employs a qualitative descriptive approach through library research and content analysis of primary and secondary academic sources published between 2015 and 2025. The findings reveal that economic digitalization does not alter the essence of contractual principles in Islamic law; instead, it modifies their form and implementation to align with technological advancement. Core Islamic principles such as akad (contract), riba (usury), gharar (uncertainty), and maisir (speculation) remain the normative foundation guiding digital financial transactions toward justice, transparency, and ethical integrity. The study also highlights the crucial roles of financial authorities such as Indonesia’s Financial Services Authority (OJK) and Bank Indonesia, in collaboration with religious bodies like the National Sharia Council (DSN-MUI), in developing a digital financial ecosystem rooted in Islamic values. The synergy between regulators and religious authorities ensures that the digital economy evolves sustainably with ethical and equitable orientations. These findings affirm that fiqh muamalah possesses strong adaptability to technological innovation while maintaining the moral integrity of Islamic economic systems in the digital transformation era.

Abstract

The rapid development of digital finance has led to new fiqh questions, particularly regarding the use of electronic money (e-money) and its relationship with zakat obligations. This study aims to analyze the position of e-money in Islamic jurisprudence and its zakat implications as a contemporary form of wealth. The method used is a qualitative library research approach with normative and maqashid al-sharia analysis. The findings reveal that e-money constitutes valuable property (mal) subject to zakat when it meets the criteria of ownership, nisab, and haul. Digital zakat platforms also contribute to greater accessibility and transparency in zakat collection and distribution.

Abstract

This article discusses the role of family communication in shaping children's character, as it is known that communication is very important in human life, especially in the family. By communicating, people will understand each other. Through communication, people can also share experiences and learn to solve various problems in life. Without communication, it is like living in isolation so that people will not be able to solve the various life problems they experience. Therefore, even though the family is a group with the strongest social ties, if communication within the family does not run smoothly and intensively, then it can certainly greatly affect various matters concerning the development and growth and progress of the family. The results of the study prove that it is true that family communication plays a significant role in improving human resources, especially in terms of children's character building.

Abstract

This study explores the implementation of mudharabah mutlaqah contracts in the IB Amanah Hajj Savings product offered by the Islamic Business Unit of Bank Jatim, and its contribution to the bank’s profitability. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, field data were collected through interviews, observation, and document analysis at Bank Jatim KCPS Sampang. The findings reveal that the application of mudharabah mutlaqah aligns with the DSN-MUI Fatwa No. 02/DSN-MUI/IV/2000 and enables the bank to profit from Hajj deposits while maintaining Sharia compliance. Over the period 2019–2021, IB Amanah contributed between 1.25% and 1.31% to the bank's net profit, with a 90:10 profit-sharing ratio favoring the bank. The study contributes to the global Islamic finance literature by demonstrating how long-term religious savings products can support the financial sustainability of regional Islamic banking institutions. It also offers a practical framework for integrating Sharia contracts into public savings mechanisms without compromising operational profitability. This case can inform international practices, especially in Muslim-majority economies aiming to optimize Hajj fund management through ethical investment strategies. Future research could compare mudharabah-based Hajj savings with other contract models (e.g., wadi’ah) across jurisdictions to assess risk-sharing efficiency and depositor trust in Islamic financial institutions.
