Abstract

Improving writing skills is as supporting factor for the success of learning carried out by each teacher. Writing ability comes from the habit of reading and analyzing problems in learning that is carried out every day. The culture of writing is still far from being a habit for teachers of SMP Negeri 3 Jorlang Hataran. Therefore, the University of HKBP Nommensen Pematangsiantar University team has carried out a community service at SMP Negeri 3 Jorlang Hataran, Jalan Besar Parapat, Nagori Bah Sampuran. district Jorlang Hataran, Simalungun Regency, North Sumatra where this service aims to socialize methods of improving English literacy skills using the problem based learning method for teachers of SMP Negeri 3 Jorlang Hataran. This service has been received with good response and was appreciated by the Principal of SMP Negeri 3 Jorlang Hataran. The results obtained from this service were 76.7% of participants who stated that they were satisfied with this service. It is hoped that with this activity, there will be a good cooperation established between the University and the school to develop the quality of teachers in order to create the higher quality education.

Abstract

The tutoring service is one of the efforts to accelerate education programs in underdeveloped villages so that national education goals can be achieved. In this case a team of service lecturers and students from HKBP University Nommensen Pematangsiantar conducted tutoring services at SD Negeri 122358 Pematangsiantar specifically for class VI students. The purpose of this activity is to find out problems related to learning during the Covid-19 pandemic and their impact if the tutoring service program is implemented properly. From the results of this activity it was known that the enthusiasm of the students was very pleasant because they received tutoring services that they had never enjoyed before. This activity develops student motivation at school. The biggest hope of the students and teachers at the school is that this program can be sustainable in the future.

Abstract

Dalam memenuhi pelaksanaan tridarma perguruan tinggi khususnya dibidang pengabdian masyarakat, maka tim dosen dari Universitas HKBP Nommensen Pematangsiantar mengadakan pelatihan kemampuan komunikasi berbahasa bagi seluruh siswa SD Negeri 125138 Pematang Siantar. Kemampuan berbahasa dalam pengabdian masyarakat ini mengacu pada tata bahasa Indonesia, bahasa inggris, bahasa mandarin dan bahasa daerah. Kegiatan pelatihan kemampuan berbahasa ini meliputi pre-test, pembahasan materi, permainan, dan post-test. Hasil dari kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah siswa dapat memahami berbagai ragam bahasa dengan suasana belajar yang baru dan metode pembelajaran yang menyenangkan. Selain itu, siswa dapat mengaplikasikan bentuk kalimat tersebut dengan baik dan benar.

Abstract

This research was designed to find the effect of implementing problem-based learning on students' ability to write essays. This research is an experiment which uses quantitative analysis to process the data. The subjects studied were students in the 5th semester of 5 2022/2023, FKIP, HKBP Nommensen University, Pematangsiantar. The samples used were 40 students each for the experimental class and control class. The instrument used in this research was an essay test. The research results prove that problem-based learning can improve students' ability to write essays. This can be seen from the results of the t test (9.38) which is greater than the t table (2.68) at the significance level of 0.05. By implementing problem-based learning, students are greatly helped in expressing organized ideas in writing.

Abstract

Kota Pematangsiantar merupakan salah satu daerah prioritas Perguruan Tinggi Universitas HKBP Nommensen Pematangsiantar untuk melakukan pengabdian kepada masyarakat dan juga merupakan kota dengan jumlah penduduk yang terdiri dari berbagai suku budaya. Pengabdian ini dilaksanakan di Sekolah Menengah Pertama ( SMA) yang ada di kota Pematangsiantar adalah SMA HKBP Pemantangsiantar yang berlokasi di Jalan Gereja No.26 Pematangsiantar. Adapun urgensi pengabdian ini adalah setelah tim melakukan obseravasi ternyata di sekolah ini guru IPA belum pernah memanfaatkan kearifan local yang ada di Sumatera Utara sebagai media pembelajaran dalam sekolah, khusus untuk pembelajaran fisika berdasarkan wawancara dengan peserta didik menyatakan bahwa fisika merupakan pelajaran yang sulit dan tidak menarik karena dipenuhi dengan rumus- rumus dan perhitungan. Oleh karena itu tim pengabdi merasa perlu untuk melakukan sosialisasi Etnofisika Gerabah Langkat Sebagai Media Pembelajaran Fisika Di SMA Swasta HKBP Pematangsiantar agar peserta didika menjadi tertarik dalam mempelajari fisika. Pemilihan Etnofisika gerabah Langkat dikarenakan masih merupakan kearfian lokal yang terdapat di Sumatera Utara yang perlu untuk diperkenalkan kepada generasi muda agar tetap terjaga. Tujuan dari kegiatan pengabdian ini antara lain : mengimplementasikan etnofisika pembuatan gerabah langkat sebagai media pembelajaran fisika di sekolah,  mensosialisasikan kearifan lokal pembuatan gerabah dan memperkenalkannya kepada peserta didik yang ada di sekolah. Hasil pengabdian menunjukkan bahwa pelatihan terlaksana dengan baik dan peserta pelatihan merasa antusias mengikuti pelatihan yang dilakukan oleh tim pengabdi.

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk mengetahui dampak dari strategi membaca mitra untuk kemampuan membaca siswa dalam memahami bacaan pada teks recount. Strategi membaca mitra dapat membantu meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa Kelas VIII di SMP Negeri 9 Pematangsiantar karena siswa mempunyai motivasi membaca yang rendah. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif. Subyek penelitian ini Kelas VIII-8 yang merupakan kelas eksperimen berjumlah 28 orang dan Kelas VIII-7 yang merupakan kelas kontrol berjumlah 28 orang. Penelitian ini mengumpulkan data dengan tes objektif 20 soal untuk pre-test dan post-test. Peneliti menggunakan SPSS versi 24 dan melakukan analisis deskriptif, uji normalitas, uji Wilcoxon, uji homogenitas, dan uji Mann Whitney. Hasilnya rata-rata nilai post-test kelas eksperimen sebesar 76,07, dan rata-rata nilai post-test kelas kontrol sebesar 57,32. Nilai assymp ditemukan dari hasil analisis data menggunakan uji Mann-Whitney. Sig (2-tailed) uji Mann-Whitney adalah 0,000 < 0,05. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, peneliti mendapatkan hasil hipotesis alternatif (Ha) diterima dan hipotesis nol (H0) ditolak.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to determine the more significant influence of the Snowball Throwing method on the reading comprehension of narrative text for class X SMA NEGERI 1 SIANTAR students. This research uses an experimental design. The problems in this research are the problems of students who have low reading comprehension abilities, students who are not familiar with the vocabulary in the text, and students who do not understand how to find the main idea in the narrative text they read. This research uses an experimental design, meaning that there is a certain experiment that is applied to a population or sample. And the population of this study were two classes, namely students in classes X-3 and X-4, totaling 60 students. The sample size is 30 students in each class. The control group used a textbook while the experimental group was taught using the snowball throwing method. In this study, data analysis showed that the average post-test score for the experimental group was 76, while the score for the control group was 64.16. The influence of the Snowball Throwing Method is more significant than without using the Snowball Throwing Method on the Reading Comprehension of class X SMA NEGERI 1 SIANTAR students in narrative texts. This is proven by the t test of 3.56 and the t table value of 2.001 and df = 58 (Nx+Ny-2 = 30+30-2 = 58). The t test value is greater than the t table value (t test > t table). Therefore the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected.

Abstract

This research aims to discover the Effect of Think-Pair-Share Strategy on students’ reading comprehension of the eighth-grade students of SMP GKPS 3 Pematang Siantar on Narrative text. This research used quantitative research with quasi experimental method. The data were collected through tests. The sample of this research were the VIII-2 as Experimental group and VIII-1 as Control group. The test was carried out with pre-test and post-test to students using narrative text. As a result, the researchers found the mean score in experimental class from pre-test to post-test were 25.92 and 78.14. The mean score in control class from pre-test to post-test were 32.22 and 56.81. The t-test value was 9.5, at a level of significances 0f 5% (=0.05), whereas t-table was 2.007, or t-test>t-table. Therefore, the Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and the Null Hypothesis (H0) was rejected. Hence, there is a significant effect of using Think-Pair-Share Strategy to the reading comprehension at the Eight grade students of SMP GKPS 3 Pematang Siantar.

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate and explore potential factors influencing the creative performance of using SIAKAD web-based learning (SWBL). This study utilised the effect of SWBL to improve students’ creative learning in English Syntactic Structure class. However, SWBL was theoretically researched, and this study's perspective enriched teachers' learning creativity. Therefore, the SWBL has been designed as a learning environment system with planning, learning, evaluation, and reflection based on attributes, processes, and learning contexts. Fifty students participated as participants that were randomly assigned to be the experimental and the control group. This study used quantitative research with a quasi-experimental design. This research method was used to determine which group was effective in helping students improve their academic achievement in English Syntactic Structure. Treatment was provided in the experimental group by conducting English Syntactic Structure on the SWBL while the control group was performing a lecturing learning class. The data were analyzed by using tcount and ttable. The final data was evaluated using the Statistical Product and Service Solution (SPSS 23). The result of this study indicated that the students using the SWBL in the English Syntactic Structure class exhibited significant improvement in creativity performance. The experimental class students who used web-based learning scored 16.111 higher than the control class. Furthermore, the SWBL capabilities of the experimental group demonstrated gradual and continuous improvement. In addition, students’ thinking skills and academic achievement in the experimental group are discussed in depth.

Abstract

Kemajuan teknologi digital telah membawa perubahan signifikan dalam dunia pendidikan, menuntut guru untuk memiliki kompetensi literasi digital yang memadai. Kompetensi ini menjadi penting untuk mendukung proses pembelajaran berbasis teknologi, terutama dalam era digitalisasi pendidikan. Program Kemitraan Masyarakat (PKM) ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kompetensi literasi digital guru-guru di SMP Swasta Surya Pematangsiantar. Metode pelatihan melibatkan pendekatan partisipatif melalui workshop, pendampingan, dan praktik langsung menggunakan berbagai platform dan aplikasi digital yang relevan dengan pembelajaran. Hasil program ini diharapkan mampu meningkatkan keterampilan guru dalam memanfaatkan teknologi digital, seperti penggunaan Learning Management System (LMS), aplikasi pembelajaran interaktif, dan media sosial sebagai alat pembelajaran. Indikator keberhasilan program ini diukur melalui peningkatan pemahaman konsep literasi digital, keterampilan teknis, dan penerapan teknologi dalam proses pembelajaran. Pelatihan ini juga diharapkan dapat memberikan dampak positif pada kualitas pembelajaran dan motivasi siswa. Dengan demikian, program ini mendukung upaya peningkatan kualitas pendidikan melalui penguatan kompetensi guru dalam literasi digital.
