Abstract

The existence of widowed women is still surrounded by stigma, especially regarding their activities in public spaces. A bad impression that still lingers in many people's minds towards a widow is that when she leaves the house for work or other activities she is always perceived as looking for a new husband. On the other hand, if a widow stays at home most of the time and doesn't work, she is considered a weak woman. This paper examines the form of societal stigma regarding the existence of widows, the economic behavior of widows, and their vision of the future. The results of the research show that the five women with widow status in Lasusua, North Kolaka Regency as the unit of analysis, in reality each of them has creative economic behavior and a vision of life that believes that all problems must have a solution. In their status as single parents, they are able to survive and send their children to school in the hope of achieving a better life in the future.

Abstract

Localization of Nightlife Places or in Indonesian it is called THM was once a hot discourse discussed in public spaces in Makassar City, especially in 2005. This discourse went wild since a daily newspaper in this city published news about the approval of Makassar City DPRD members and several other members of the commission for coming up with this idea. Some of the reasons that support the idea that is still playing out at this level of discourse, are covered by the postulates of urban planning and order. Another reason is related to the development of the Makassar City tourism sector. This paper examines the socio-cultural problems that have caused this localization policy discourse to not be realized. Socio-culturally, the act of localizing THM is seen as an effort to facilitate immoral activities, whereas on the other hand, the local population is a community of adherents and adherents of siri' values. In fact, this discourse coincided with the rise of the movement for the enforcement of Islamic Sharia in South Sulawesi.

Abstract

For quite a long time, the world community has generally only known two main types of motivation for capitalism, namely the Protestant Ethic, which was written about through Max Weber's book, and Tokugawa Religion, which was introduced through the writings of Robert N. Bellah. This book discusses the spirit of capitalism which originates from local wisdom, namely siri' in the Bugis community in South Sulawesi, Indonesia, which is extracted from the book Bugis Capitalism. In contrast to the two spirits of Weber-style capitalism and the Bellah style which are motivated by religious values, Bugis capitalism is actually motivated by local wisdom which originates from messages from ancestors or wise people. The practice of ancestral messages as a social system has made the Bugis people successful as entrepreneurs both in their own villages and in overseas areas.
