Abstract

UMKM Milan Collection faced several operational problems, such as inconsistent employee discipline and different ways of serving customers because there were no written guidelines. These issues affected the daily workflow, service quality, and made it difficult for the owner to supervise employee performance. To solve these problems, the project used the PDCA (Plan–Do–Check–Act) method and carried out observations, interviews, document analysis, and direct evaluations. As a result, two important Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) were created: the Work Discipline SOP and the Customer Service SOP. These SOPs provide clear rules for attendance, work ethics, customer interactions, handling complaints, and transaction procedures, so that all work activities become more consistent and transparent. After socializing the SOPs and implementing them on-site, the business saw many improvements. Employees became more disciplined, followed work schedules, and delivered more consistent service to customers. The owner also found it easier to supervise the team. Customers received more professional and uniform service. Overall, the results show that SOPs play an important role in improving operational efficiency, strengthening professionalism, increasing customer satisfaction, and supporting long-term stability for small businesses like Milan Collection.

Abstract

This study investigates the relationship between green human resource management (Green HRM) practices, motivation, job satisfaction, and sustainable environmental performance in hospitals located in Batam. The study population comprises 200 employees from five hospitals in the city. Data were analyzed using SmartPLS 3 to assess the structural relationships among the variables. The findings demonstrate that all proposed hypotheses are statistically significant. Green HRM practices positively influence job satisfaction, employee motivation, and sustainable environmental performance. In addition, job satisfaction and motivation are found to effectively mediate the relationship between Green HRM practices and sustainable environmental performance. This indicates that environmentally oriented HR policies not only directly enhance environmental outcomes but also indirectly strengthen them by fostering positive employee attitudes and motivation. These results highlight the strategic importance of implementing Green HRM practices to support organizational sustainability objectives. The novelty of this research lies in identifying job satisfaction and motivation as critical mediating mechanisms that amplify the impact of Green HRM practices on achieving optimal environmental performance within healthcare institutions. Abstract

Industrial and educational growth in Batam City has increased energy consumption, carbon emissions, and waste, including at private universities (PTS) that have not yet fully implemented environmentally friendly practices. The gap between green policies and campus environmental performance still exists due to the low contribution of human resources in supporting sustainability, particularly through green organizational culture (GOC) and green work engagement (GWE). This study aims to analyze the influence of green human resource management (GHRM) on environmental performance (EP) at PTS in Batam and to examine the mediating role of GOC and GWE. A total of 260 respondents from UIB, UPB, and UIS were involved through an online questionnaire in December 2024–March 2025, with 26 measurement items on the variables of GHRM, GWE, GOC, and EP using a five-point Likert scale. The analysis was conducted using PLS-SEM through SmartPLS 4.0. The results showed that all indicators were valid and reliable, with outer loading values above 0.7, AVE exceeding 0.5, and reliability above 0.9. The main findings show that GHRM has a positive effect on GWE, GOC, and EP, while GWE and GOC also have a significant effect on EP. This confirms that green work culture and engagement are important mechanisms that bridge the implementation of GHRM in improving campus environmental performance. Overall, this study shows that effective GHRM integration can strengthen environmentally oriented organizational behavior and culture, thereby promoting improved environmental performance at private universities in Batam City.

Abstract

Employee performance is a critical factor for maintaining organizational competitiveness, particularly in specialized service industries such as maritime safety equipment inspection. Employee engagement and flexible human resource management (FHRM) are often considered key drivers of improved job performance. While previous studies have examined the relationship between employee engagement and flexible HR practices, most have focused on sectors such as information technology. Limited research has explored these relationships in the maritime safety service sector, particularly in Indonesia. The study employed a quantitative research method using non-probability sampling with accidental sampling approach. Data were collected from 170 employees across five ship safety equipment inspection companies in Batam (PT Global Marine Safety, PT Sucofindo, PT Devin Marine Safety, PT Mulia Safety Service, and PT Cahaya Samudra Marine). The research utilized PLS-SEM analysis with SmartPLS application, measuring variables through a 10-point Likert scale questionnaire distributed online from November 2024 to January 2025. The results demonstrate that all variables (employee engagement, flexible human resource management, and job performance) exhibit high validity and reliability. Direct path analysis reveals that employee engagement significantly influences both FHRM (β = 0.595, p < 0.001) and job performance (β = 0.545, p < 0.001). However, FHRM does not significantly affect job performance directly (β = 0.211, p = 0.093) and fails to function effectively as a mediator between employee engagement and job performance (β = 0.126, p = 0.069). This study extends the literature by examining employee engagement and FHRM in the maritime safety sector in Indonesia. The findings suggest that employee engagement plays a more direct and dominant role in enhancing job performance than flexible HR practices. Organizations in specialized service industries should therefore prioritize strategies that strengthen employee engagement to improve performance outcomes.

Abstract

Background – In the era of global awareness of sustainability, organizations are increasingly prioritizing environmentally friendly practices as part of their business strategies, including through green hiring. This approach aligns with the goals of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which emphasize environmental protection. However, research on the impact of green hiring on environmental performances, particularly in Indonesia's manufacturing sector, remains limited. Aim – This study aims to analyze the impact of green hiring on environmental performances in manufacturing companies in Batam and evaluate the mediating roles of green performance management and green compensation. Design/Methodology/Approach – The study employs a quantitative approach using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation co (PLS-SEM). The sample includes 279 respondents from PT. Panasonic Industrial Devices Batam and PT. Philips Industries Batam. Data were collected through an online questionnaire measuring green hiring, green performance management, green compensation, and environmental performances. Findings – The findings reveal that green hiring positively and significantly influences green performance management, green compensation, and environmental performances. Furthermore, green performance management and green compensation partially mediate the relationship between green hiring and environmental performances. These results align with previous studies, emphasizing the importance of integrating environmentally friendly practices into human resource management to enhance environmental performance. Conclusion – This study highlights that green hiring is a critical factor in improving environmental performance, both directly and through environmentally oriented performance management and compensation systems. Research Implications – The study contributes to the literature on green human resource management (GHRM) and offers practical insights for HR managers to enhance environmental performance through green recruitment and compensation policies. Research Limitations – The study is limited to the manufacturing sector in Batam and uses cross-sectional data, which may not be generalizable to other sectors or provide insights into long-term relationships between variables.

Abstract

This study aims to identify and analyze the influence of Green Human Resource Management (GHRM) on thriving at work and green commitment, with green self-efficacy as a mediating variable in hospitals in Batam. The study population includes all hospital staff/employees working and registered in the city of Batam, with a sample size of 200 respondents. Data analysis utilized Structural Equation Modeling – Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) with the assistance of the SmartPLS 3 application. The research findings all six hypotheses were supported. The novelty of this study lies in the finding that Green Self-Efficacy serves as a significant mediating variable.
