Abstract

Abstract

Sport is a structured and planned physical activity aimed at improving fitness and overall health. One rapidly growing discipline is rock climbing, particularly in the speed category. This high-intensity anaerobic activity often causes muscle fatigue, elevated blood lactate, and increased recovery heart rate. Excessive lactate accumulation disrupts recovery and may impair performance, making effective recovery methods essential. Two commonly used techniques are Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) stretching and cold water immersion, or ice bath. This study compared the effectiveness of PNF stretching and ice bath in reducing blood lactate and recovery heart rate among rock climbing athletes in Denpasar City. A quasi-experimental pre-test–post-test design was conducted on three groups: PNF stretching (n=6), ice bath (n=6), and control (n=6). Interventions were performed twice weekly for two weeks. Blood lactate levels were measured with the Lactate Scout, while recovery heart rate was recorded manually at one and five minutes post-exercise. Results indicated that both PNF stretching and ice bath significantly reduced blood lactate (p<0.05) compared to control, but the ice bath produced greater and more consistent reductions. For recovery heart rate, no significant differences were found between groups (p>0.05). However, the ice bath group displayed a more favorable downward trend, suggesting potential clinical relevance. PNF stretching did not significantly affect heart rate recovery compared to ice bath or control but still demonstrated positive recovery effects. In conclusion, the ice bath method proved more effective than PNF stretching in reducing blood lactate, making it a recommended recovery strategy for speed climbing athletes. PNF stretching remains valuable for flexibility and muscular relaxation and may be best applied alongside other recovery methods. Future studies should investigate long-term outcomes, varied immersion protocols, and larger athlete populations to enhance generalizability

Abstract

Mechanical neck pain is a common condition among employees who perform static tasks in non-ergonomic postures while using digital devices, potentially leading to pain, disability, and reduced work productivity. The purpose of this study to prove that deep cervical flexion exercise with pressure biofeedback is more effective than muscle energy technique in reducing neck pain and disability in mechanical neck pain conditions of digital creative employees. This study is a true experiment with pre-test and post-test two group design. The subjects of the study were 24 people who were randomly divided into two groups. Group 1 (n=12) received deep cervical flexion exercise with pressure biofeedback, while group 2 (n=12) received muscle energy technique. Pain intensity was measured using the numeric pain rating scale and neck disability was assessed using the neck disability index. The results of the paired sample t-test showed a significant reduction in pain and disability in both groups (p=0.001; p<0.05). The independent sample t-test confirmed significant differences between the groups (p<0.05), with group 1 showing a greater percentage reduction in both pain (68.40%) and disability (55.48%) compared to group 2 (44% and 30.55%). In conclusion, deep cervical flexion exercise with pressure biofeedback showed greater improvement compared to muscle energy technique in reducing neck pain and disability in mechanical neck pain conditions of digital creative employees. Although limited by age differences between groups as a potential confounding factor, the findings remain applicable to workers with prolonged static and non-ergonomic postures.

Abstract

This study aims to demonstrate the efficacy of processed pigeon pea (Cajanus cajan L.) combined with iron-folic acid supplementation in increasing hemoglobin and hematocrit levels following blood donation. Processing of Undis Bean (Cajanus cajan L.) and Iron-Folic Acid Supplementation Increase Hemoglobin and Hematocrit Levels Post-Blood Donation. This experimental research employed a randomized pre-test/post-test control group design. Sixty-four blood donors aged 17–65 years who successfully donated at the Badung Regency Red Cross Mobile Unit in July 2024 were enrolled and divided into two groups: control group (K) receiving iron-folic acid supplementation (IFAS) only, and treatment group (P) receiving IFAS with 50 grams of processed pigeon pea daily. The intervention was administered for 7 days, after which hemoglobin and hematocrit levels were examined using the Photometric Point of Care Testing (POCT) method. Results demonstrated significant increases in both hemoglobin and hematocrit levels between pre-test and post-test in each group (p=0.000). Comparison between groups revealed significantly greater hemoglobin increases in group P (p=0.028) and hematocrit increases in group P (p=0.015). This study concludes that providing processed pigeon pea combined with IFAS for 7 days significantly increases hemoglobin and hematocrit levels after blood donation, offering a practical nutritional intervention to support post-donation recovery.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The development of online transportation as part of urban transport systems has increased drivers’ work demands, including long working hours, exposure to vehicle vibration, and prolonged static working postures. These conditions may increase the risk of developing work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs). This study aimed to describe the occurrence of WMSDs and to analyze the associations between individual characteristics, job characteristics, and PPE use with WMSDs among online motorcycle taxi drivers in Denpasar City. This study employed an analytical cross-sectional design involving 278 online motorcycle taxi drivers in Denpasar City. Respondents were selected based on eligibility criteria using a convenience sampling technique. Data collection was conducted through direct observation and structured questionnaires, utilizing a biodata form, the NASA Task Load Index (NASA-TLX) to assess workload, the Fatigue Assessment Scale (FAS) to measure fatigue, and the GOTRAK survey based on SNI 9011:2021. Data were analyzed using univariate analysis, bivariate analysis with the chi-square test, and multivariate analysis using binary logistic regression. A total of 75.9% of drivers reported experiencing work-related musculoskeletal disorders, with mild (24.1%), moderate (53.6%), and severe (22.3%) levels of severity. The most frequently affected body regions were the neck, shoulders, upper back, and lower back. Individual factors significantly associated with WMSDs included age, sex, educational level, smoking behavior, physical activity habits, and health status (p0.05). All job characteristics working hours, length of employment, workload, and fatigue were significantly associated with WMSDs (p0.05), whereas PPE use was not significantly associated (p=0.074). Age, sex, education level, smoking behavior, exercise habits, health status, working hours, length of employment, workload, and fatigue were significantly associated with WMSDs among Gojek drivers in Denpasar. The statistically protective association observed for smoking behavior was likely influenced by confounding factors and does not reflect a biologically protective effect, whereas good health status acts as a protective factor against WMSDs. Long working hours and longer employment duration were identified as dominant risk factors for WMSDs. Preventive efforts are needed through the regulation of workload and working hours, ergonomic education, and the promotion of healthy lifestyles to reduce the risk of WMSDs. Keywords: Online Motorcycle Taxi Driver, Wmsds, Work Duration, Workload.ABSTRAK Perkembangan transportasi daring sebagai bagian dari sistem transportasi perkotaan meningkatkan tuntutan kerja pengemudi, seperti durasi kerja panjang, paparan getaran kendaraan, dan postur kerja statis dalam waktu lama.

Abstract

Background: Tooth extraction is a procedure that can cause injury to the soft tissue. The inflammatory phase that occurs during wound healing triggers a series of tissue changes mediated by the immune system and cytokines. TNF-α and IL-6 cytokine levels should decrease as the wound heals, but otherwise it will slow wound healing and lead to chronic inflammation. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the extract gel of Moringa leaves on the wound healing process Materials and Methods: This research was conducted on 24 Wistar rats, which were randomly divided into four groups, 70%, 90% Moringa leaf extract gel group 70% and 90%, the control (+) oxyfresh gel, and the control (-) CMC-Na 2%. The left central incisor tooth was extracted, resulting in an injury to the gingival socket, and was given topical treatment every day for 7 days. Blood sampling from the orbital sinus was carried out on the 4th and 7th day after injury, and the levels of TNF-α and IL-6 were measured by ELISA. The data obtained was tested with two-way ANOVA and Post Hoc LSD. Results: The lowest IL-6 was found in the 90% Moringa leaf extract gel group, with an average of 80.86 ± 1.91, while the lowest TNF-α was found in the 90% day 7 group with 80.56 ± 0.41. There were significant differences between the test groups and the observation time, with p <0.05. Conclusion: Topical application of moringa oleifera gel was effective in reducing TNF-α.and.IL-6 levels after tooth extraction in Wistar rats
