Abstract

Training on the use of the Sutori digital platform was conducted to improve the ability of prospective English teacher students to create interactive learning media. The training consisted of an introduction to theory and task-based practical exercises. Based on observations, field notes, and questionnaires administered to 10 students, the majority of participants were not familiar with Sutori beforehand but were able to operate its features after the training. Eighty percent of participants felt confident in creating digital instructional materials and intended to use them in microteaching. The practice-based training method proved effective in improving the digital literacy of prospective teachers. Major challenges included varying learning speeds and the need for ongoing guidance. Such digital training is relevant in preparing prospective teachers who are adaptable to technology.

Observations conducted at SMP Negeri 1 Hiliduho revealed that some students encounter challenges in mastering the necessary vocabulary and comprehending lessons. The limited variety of learning media resulted in diminished student interest in the learning process. This study aimed to analyzing the use of flashcard media in increasing students' vocabulary mastery and why flashcard media can improve students' vocabulary mastery at the seventh grade of SMP Negeri 1 Hiliduho. The method used in this research was qualitative method. To obtain data, researcher used two data collection techniques, namely observation and interview. After obtaining the data, the researcher analyzed the data using the theory of Miles and Huberman in (Santy. 2021), namely reducing, displaying, and concluding data. The results of the study were showed. In the first meeting, the average score of students' vocabulary mastery was 64, which was categorized as “enough.” In the second meeting, the average student score was 77.6, categorized as “good,” and in the third meeting the average student score reached 90, categorized as “very good”. The results of this study show that there is a clear development in students' vocabulary mastery through flashcard media, because based on the results of student and teacher interviews found by researcher in the field show that the advantages of flashcards media were portability, practicality, memorability, and engagement so that students were interested in learning. Based on these results, it can be concluded that students in the seventh grade at SMP Negeri 1 Hiliduho demonstrate enhanced mastery of English vocabulary through the use of flashcard media. Consequently, it is recommended that teachers incorporate flashcard media in vocabulary instruction to further cultivate students' interest and proficiency in vocabulary learning.

Abstract

Abstract

This community service examines the use of imaginative games in English learning to develop student character through the 6C framework: Collaboration, Communication, Content, Critical Thinking, Creative Innovation, and Self-Confidence. This activity was conducted with seventh grade students at Agios Nikolaus Gunungsitoli Christian Private Junior High School using observation sheets, field notes and student worksheets to analyze the impact of imaginative play on language learning outcomes and character building. The findings showed that most students demonstrated strong collaboration and communication skills, participating effectively in group activities and verbal interactions. Comprehension of materials and critical thinking skills also improved, with 87.5% of students (14 out of 16) showing a strong understanding of English learning materials, including grammar and vocabulary. A total of 68.75% of students (11 out of 16) were able to analyze and solve problems effectively, although further development is needed to improve their critical thinking skills. However, creative innovation was less developed, with only half of the participants actively exploring new ideas. Self-confidence saw a significant improvement, with 81.25% of students (13 out of 16) showing high levels of self-confidence. This reflects the effectiveness of the imaginative play method in helping students feel confident using language. In conclusion, the 6C’s imaginative play effectively supports language acquisition and character education, particularly in enhancing communication, collaboration, and confidence, though additional strategies are needed to further improve creativity and critical thinking. This approach offers a holistic and engaging method for integrating character development into English language learning.
