Abstract

This research aims to analyze the factors affecting the export level of Indonesian vanilla to the United States market, focusing on aspects of global competition. Several key variables analyzed in this study include price, exchange rates, and export volumes from competing countries. Madagascar and France were chosen as comparison countries because both are Indonesia's main competitors in vanilla trade in the United States market, with Madagascar being the largest vanilla producer in the world and France as an active player in the global distribution chain. Indonesia has the opportunity to become a major producer in the United States market, utilizing Indonesia's tropical climate and the distinctive characteristics of Indonesian vanilla as attractions in the global market. The United States, as a global market for vanilla, has an increasing demand value. The analysis method used is logistic regression, utilizing secondary data from 1999 to 2024. The research results show that there are two variables that significantly affect the increase in Indonesian vanilla export volume, namely the exchange rate of France against the United States dollar (USD) and the export volume of vanilla from France. Both variables have a partial effect on Indonesia's export volume, indicating that fluctuations in exchange rates and export activities of competing countries can affect Indonesia's competitiveness in the global market.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze trends in Timor-Leste's coffee exports to Indonesia over the past five years (2020-2025) and the factors influencing them. Timor-Leste, as an agricultural country, makes coffee its primary non-oil and gas export commodity. Timor-Leste's Arabica coffee is known for its high quality and has been exported to various countries, including Indonesia, but with significant fluctuations. This study used quantitative and qualitative methods with secondary data from various sources, including the Ministeriu Agrikultura e Pescas (MAP), the Ministry of Industry of Timor-Leste, and UN Comtrade. Data was analyzed to identify trends in export value and factors such as export volume, export prices, and trade policies. The results show that Timor-Leste's coffee exports to Indonesia have fluctuated, influenced by internal and external factors. Driving factors include geographic proximity, coffee's image as a premium product, and the increasing demand for specialty coffee in Indonesia. Barriers include logistics costs, small production scale, and lack of promotion. This study concludes that despite significant potential, Timor-Leste's coffee exports to Indonesia are not yet optimal. It is recommended that the Timor-Leste government establish national quality standards, increase farmer capacity, and establish trade partnerships with roasters in Indonesia. Promotion and branding also need to be improved to strengthen the position of Timor-Leste coffee in the Indonesian market. This research provides theoretical and practical contributions to agribusiness development and international trade, particularly in the context of developing countries.

Abstract

Women farmers play an important role in agricultural sustainability in Indonesia; however, their participation in decision-making and access to extension services remain limited. Previous studies often examine agricultural extension or farmer group programs separately, providing a limited understanding of their combined influence on women farmers’ behavior. Grounded in the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), this study analyzes the role of agricultural extension workers and farmer group activity programs in shaping women farmers’ behavior toward sustainable agriculture. A quantitative descriptive approach was employed, using stratified random sampling, with 120 active women farmers in Sragen Regency, Central Java. Data were collected through structured questionnaires and analyzed using multiple linear regression. The results show that extension workers and group programs do not significantly influence behavior when examined individually; however, their combined effect is significant. These findings extend TPB by showing that integrated institutional support and group-based empowerment more effectively influence behavioral change. Practically, the study highlights the importance of integrated, participatory, and gender-responsive extension programs to support sustainable agriculture in rural areas.

Abstract

Food security disparities in Central Java result in inequality in production, market access, and farmers' welfare. The threat of climate change and limited access for farmers to capital and technology further exacerbate this condition. The low selling price of crops compared to production costs is also a major challenge. Therefore, building the resilience of agricultural food systems is a crucial solution to improve adaptation to change and create more inclusive and sustainable agriculture. This study aims to analyze the resilience of the agricultural food system in overcoming food security disparities and improving the welfare of the community in Central Java Province. The data analysis method used includes a quantitative approach using simple linear regression linear analysis and descriptive analysis.  In the results of the multiple linear regression test analysis, F test of 29.781 was produced with a very significant p value of 0.0. The results of the t-test showed that food resilience had a significant positive effect (t=5.5659; p=0.0), while food security disparity had a significant negative effect (t=3.3169; p=0.0013).  The results of the study showed that 16 districts/cities were in the medium, 10 low, and 9 high categories in their food security levels, spatial analysis showed inequality between regions.  Low regions are vulnerable to supply chain shocks and disasters, while high-resilience regions typically have biophysical, infrastructural and commodity diversification advantages. Strengthening resilience through irrigation rehabilitation, salinity-tolerant varieties, weather-based insurance, and equitable access to technology and resources are some of the policy impacts.  The findings show that improving food security and reducing disparities can improve farmers' well-being in a sustainable manner.
