Abstract

This study aims to describe the application of problem solving in the learning process and describes the technique of forming groups that are carried out in learning. This study uses the Systematic Literature Review method, which focuses on reviewing and analyzing broadly and thoroughly some of the literature that is relevant to the research topic. The stages carried out in this research are clarification and approach; search, filter, and select;  analysis and interpretation; draft articles; and dissemination. Literature data used as the main source in this study were 15 articles from Scopus-indexed Springer within a period of 6 years (2018-2023). The articles analyzed examined problem solving skills ranging from junior high school to university. The results showed problem solving research was carried out individually and in groups, and most research was done through groups. The technique of forming groups is carried out by paying attention to the background, results of initial ability tests in individual rounds, pretest, and educational strata. The steps taken in learning problem solving are: orientation of students to problems; group formation; carrying out investigative activities to solve problems; discussing and reviewing problem solving strategies in groups; making presentations; and the teacher providing feedback.

Abstract

This study explores the correlation between Scientific Literacy (SL) results from PISA 2015 released items, the Test of Logical Thinking (TOLT), and Science Score Achievement (SSA). The method of this study used an explanatory sequential research design with cross-sectional and convenience sampling. Ninety-two 15-year-old students and science teachers participated. The correlation between SL, TOLT, and SSA was positive but moderately weak. The average SL score was low at 33.04%. TOLT results showed that 64.13% of students demonstrated concrete reasoning, 32.61% proportional reasoning, and 3.26% formal reasoning. SSA scores averaged 81.90, with 53 students scoring above average. Interviews with teachers suggested low SL and LT scores resulted from a lack of hands-on activities, as teachers relied heavily on lectures. Science textbooks also lacked inquiry-based learning tasks. The limitations of this research are that it does not cover gender comparison, school curriculums, or school locations, whether urban or suburban. The psychological aspects regarding the students’ interest or efficacy are not included in the discussion or provided. Also, students with positive learning experiences in science have good results in SL, and TOLT has not been proven empirically.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate food security in the perspective of junior high school students in urban area in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. The research is a cross-sectional study using survey method to explore students"™ perception. The study involved 191 junior high school students from grade 7, 8, and 9. The sample was chosen by convenience sampling. The research used 4 open ended questions which are delivered by utilizing google forms. However, students were supervised while completing the survey. Therefore, the researcher could minimize interfering variable which might affect students"™ answer. The result found that most student link food security to sufficient and availability aspect. Furthermore, nutrition, accessibility, safe, and healthy aspect of the food appear in smaller frequency. However, there is no students mention the aspect of affordability, beliefs, sustainability, utilization, and stability of food. There is a need to enhance students"™ awareness in the sustainability aspect of food security since Indonesia performs very weak in ensuring the sustainability and adaptation aspect. It is found that in the perspective of 57% the students, Indonesia has a good food security while about 43 % think otherwise. Students already have a hint of factors that can negatively impact food security Indonesia as well as supporting factor.

Abstract

Dynamic electricity is important due to its function as a thinking tool for further electronic circuit analysis. It is an abstract concept that must be understood by students as well as by physics teachers. A study about developing a set of two-tier multiple-choice questions was conducted to measure the system thinking skill of a number of student-teachers using Design Development Research (DDR). The instrument has been tested for its validity through expert judgment and field testing on a number of student teachers (n=62). After studying dynamic electricity learning material that had been prepared before. Based on the r table, which is 0.2108, it was obtained that out of 25 two-level tests, 23 were valid and can be used to measure students' and teachers' systems-thinking skills. In addition, the instrument showed high reliability, with a Cronbach’s alpha coefficient of 0.840.

Abstract

This research departs from the many found misconceptions experienced by students in evolutionary lectures. So it is very important to make improvements. The efforts carried out in this study were to improve students' misconceptions through the use of Dual situated learning model as a model of change in conception based on the criteria considered to be very capable of correcting problems. The study was conducted at a public university in Bandung in the department of biology with 33 respondents as the subject of research. To find out the success of the activities carried out, data was taken using the Certainty of response index test. The results found are that there is a significant effect of Dual Situated Learning Model usage on the level of change in student misconception.
