Abstract

Adolescence is a period of transitional development between childhood and adulthood where adolescents are vulnerable to peer influence in terms of interests, attitudes, appearances, and behaviors. This vulnerability may lead to various issues including reproductive health problems. The incidence of adolescent reproductive health problems such as early pregnancy and childbirth, unsafe abortion, sexually transmitted infections including Human Immunodeficiency Virus, sexual harassment/rape is influenced by factors of knowledge, attitudes, and the role of parents. The purpose of this study was to analyze factors related to reproductive health practices at SMP Negeri 16 Kupang. This research was an analytic observational study with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 155 adolescents. The study was conducted in August 2020. Data analysis in this study used simple logistic regression analysis. The results found that 52.9% of adolescents had poor reproductive health practices. Reproductive health practice was associated with knowledge (p = 0.000), and the role of parents (p = 0.048) while attitudes (p = 0.948) was found unrelated to the practice. Increasing understanding of the importance of maintaining reproductive health is necessary to help adolescents anticipate the impact of reproductive health problems.

This study aims to the external barriers in drug-taking in leprosy patients at Sikumana Primary Health Center in Kupang. This was a qualitative research with the phenomenological approach. There were nine informants in this study consisting of the Multibacillary (MB) leprosy patiens, their families, public figures, and health workers. The data was obtained by interviews and observations. Furthermore, the data analysis was conducted qualitatively. The results showed that the obstacles in getting the leprosy medicines were the access to the health facilities and COVID-19 pandemic. Abstract

Exclusive breast milk is breast milk given to infants up to six months of age without giving any food or additional fluids. Tena Teke Primary Health Care (PHC) has low coverage of exclusive breastmilk as only 45% babies receiving the breastmilk; this percentage is under the national target of 80%. The research aimed to analyze the relationship between work, cultural values, childbirth assistance and family support with exclusive breastfeeding at Tena Teke PHC. This research was a quantitative study with a cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 75 people selected using a simple random sampling technique. Data were analyzed using the chi square test with the significance level of α=0.05. The study found that the variable of maternal occupation (p=0.013), maternal cultural values (p=0.000), maternal birth attendant (p=0.003) and maternal family support (p=0.000) were associated with exclusive breastfeeding. Mothers who still actively work need to manage time to breastfeed their babies. Mothers are also encouraged to access information related to the benefits of exclusive breastfeeding to change the existing cultural perceptions about the traditions hindering exclusive breastfeeding practice.

Abstract

Incomplete antenatal care result in risks and complications of pregnancy that are not detected early and can lead maternal and infant mortality. The main factor causing the death of pregnant women each year is due to bleeding. This can be prevented with complete and rutine antenatal care. Based on data from the Melolo Health Center, the coverage of visits by pregnant women to ANC services (K1 and K4) in 2017 amounted to 579 (K1 50% and K4 48%), in 2018 there were 542 (K1 51% and K4 45%) and in 2019 amounted to 486 (K1 62% and K4 50%) and the coverage of visits by pregnant women has not reached the target set, namely K1 100% and K4 95%. This study aims to analyze the relationship between age, knowledge, attitudes, distance to health services, and husband/family support with the completeness of antenatal care visits in the Melolo Health Center, East Sumba Regency in 2020. This type of research is an observational analytic study with a cross sectional study design. The sample in this study consisted of 66 people with the sampling technique carried out by total sampling. The data analysis used was univariate analysis and bivariate analysis using the Chi-square test. The results showed that there was a relationship between age, knowledge, attitude, and husband support with completeness of antenatal care visits. Health workers especially midwives are expected to carry out monitoring and home visits of pregnant women as well as to carry out intensive communication with pregnant women and their families so that they can carry out pregnancy checks according to standard. The husband’s role in providing motivation, attention and accompanying pregnant women in conducting ANC examinations.

Abstract

Treatment of leprosy sufferers aims to break the chain of leprosy transmission. The success of leprosy treatment depends on early detections of the patient, adherence to medication, community stigma and the role of health workers. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between medication adherence, community stigma and the role of health workers in the successful treatment of leprosy patients at the Maubesi Public Health Center, North Central Timor Regency, in 2019. This research is a qualitative research. The research informants were 13 people consisting of 5 key informants and 8 supporting informants. Data processing and analysis techniques use thematic analysis. The results of the research at Maubesi Public Health Center show that the informants comply with every rule of leprosy treatment management, both short term for PB leprosy and long term for MB leprosy. Although there is a stigma and negative treatment from the community towards people with leprosy, such as the assumption that leprosy cannot be curred and the community is afraid to shake hands with people with leprosy, it does not interfere with the patient to be afraid and retreat in undergoing leprosy treatment. This is supported by the role of health workers in the discovery and treatment of leprosy patients. Patients with good support from health workers are more obedient in taking treatment. Suggestion for the Health Center to increase education about leprosy to reduce stigma in the community.

Abstract

Babies with Low Birth Weight (LBW) have a higher risk of impaired growth and development and even death than babies born with normal birth weight. This study aims to analyze the relationship between maternal age, parity, birth spacing, maternal disease during pregnancy, maternal nutritional status, and antenatal care with the incidence of LBW in the work area of Tarus Public Health Center, Kupang Regency. This research was quantitative using a case-control design. The population consisted of all babies born in November 2019 to May 2020. Case samples were 21 LBW infants and the control group had 21 normal birth weight infants. The statistical test used Chi-square with α=0.05. The results showed that maternal age, parity, maternal illness during pregnancy, maternal nutritional status, and antenatal care were related to the LBW incidence, while birth spacing was not associated with the incidence. Health workers need to continuously educate the community about preventing risky pregnancies, such as being too young (<20 years), too old (>35 years), and too many (parity>3), through the use of contraceptives, the nutritional needs of pregnant women, and routine pregnancy check-ups.

Abstract

Unwanted pregnancy in adolescents is related to reproductive health behavior, including knowledge, attitudes, and actions. Knowledge will produce positive or negative attitudes, and from these attitudes, individuals will apply them in the form of actions, including sexual behavior. This study described adolescent knowledge and attitudes about unwanted pregnancy. The research method used in this study was descriptive with a quantitative approach. The study was conducted at SMA Negeri 8 in March-April 2021. Teenage girls in grades X and XI of SMAN 8 Kupang were used in this study totaling 323 people. The sample used was 179 people taken by a simple random sampling technique and the Slovin formula. Data was collected using an online questionnaire. The results showed that most respondents had good knowledge about unwanted pregnancy and had a positive attitude towards unwanted pregnancy. Schools should be more selective in receiving and providing information on sexual behavior before marriage and unhealthy dating relationships for students. At the same time, the Kupang City Education Department suggested launching a new policy related to reproductive health education for adolescents. Keywords: adolescent, attitude, knowledge, unwanted pregnancy
