Abstract

Abstract: Mathematical understanding, particularly algebra, is essential in education. One effort to reduce student errors in learning can be achieved through an in-depth study of the relationship between students' emotional intelligence and the learning process. Emotional intelligence in learning mathematics is the ability to control one's emotions, manage, and express emotions towards others. Emotional intelligence is crucial for understanding the lessons delivered by the teacher. This research aims to investigate the relationship between student errors and the level of emotional intelligence by applying scaffolding to middle school students. The method used in this study is the correlational research method because it aims to determine the relationship between variable X (emotional intelligence) and variable Y (errors). The study population consisted of eighth-grade students at SMPN 1 Saradan in the 2022/2023 academic year, distributed in one class with a total of 30 students. From this class, 3 students were randomly selected as samples using purposive sampling technique. The instruments used in this research were an emotional intelligence questionnaire about mathematics and a mathematics error test on algebra material. The data processing and analysis technique in this study used correlation tests. The results of the correlation test in this study show that there is a significant relationship between emotional intelligence in mathematics and students' mathematical errors, with a correlation coefficient of 0.887, indicating a strong correlation. Based on these results, the conclusion can be drawn that students with high, moderate, and low emotional intelligence will produce better mathematics learning outcomes with the application of scaffolding. This activity is crucial, especially for teachers to understand students' difficulties and errors, aligning with the teachers' ability to better recognize students' characteristics.         Keywords: emotional quotient, newman’s errors, algebraic arithmetic operations, scaffolding.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpmipa/v25i1.pp236-247

Abstract

Indonesia is entering the era of demographic bonus with the productive age dominating the population. Productive age is the main focus of the government in maximizing the demographic dividend, but Indonesia has the highest percentage of Not in employment, education or training (NEET) in Asia. NEET are people on 15 – 24 years old who do other activities outside of school, work or training. This study aims to analyze NEET in Indonesia using panel data with moderate regression analysis. The analysis of multiple linear regression is focused on the relationship between the independent and dependent variables without taking into other possible outcomes. By inserting a moderating variable, this study explores the relationship between the independent and dependent variables differently and aims to strengthen or weaken it. Under certain conditions, the relationship between the independent and dependent variables can be explained by the moderating variable. The research data used were obtained from the employment book and the website of BPS Indonesia, in the form of 34 cross section and 5 years time series data that tends to be stationary. The dependent variable is NEET with 5 independent variables including Human development index, the open unemployment rate, labor force participation rate, proportion of individuals who own phone, and proportion of informal employment. The moderating variable is the proportion of youth aged with ICT skills. The best model in regression analysis panel data is FEM with 4 significant independent variables and 92.75% of R-square. Moderating variable can moderates the relationship of NEET with its independent variables and increased the R-square to 94.19%.

Abstract

Mathematical understanding is one of the supporting factors for students' success in mathematics. Skemp divides understanding into two types, namely instrumental understanding and relational understanding. This research purpose was to describe the mathematical understanding of seventh grade D students in solving set problems based on Skemp's theory of understanding in terms of rational personality types. The type of research used was descriptive qualitative. This research was conducted at Junior High School Darul Aman Mataram of 2021/2022 academic year. Selection of subjects using a purposive sampling technique. The subjects in this study were two students with rational personality types. Data were obtained using a mathematical understanding test and interviews. The study's results showed that students with rational personality types tend to have a relational understanding because they can explain reasons or interpret problem-solving procedures according to the set concept correctly. In addition, students are able to understand the purpose of the given set of problems, can apply ideas according to the logic of thinking in solving problems, can write problem solving procedures coherently according to Skemp's theory even though they tend to be brief, can solve mathematical understanding problems accompanied by appropriate answer arguments, can change mathematical sentences in the given problem in the form of words, images, or certain mathematical symbols. Furthermore, this type can achieve all of the indicators of instrumental understanding and can fulfill the six indicators of relational understanding, except for the ability to correlate several set concepts. Based on these results, it is expected that rational personality type students can determine detailed planning in solving problems, and improve understanding of mathematical concepts such as being more careful in the use of solution strategies so that students are accustomed to applying various solution strategies.

Abstract

Currency crises have occurred in Indonesia in 1997-1998 and 2008, causing significant losses both in terms of economy and social life. Therefore, a system is needed that can detect currency crises to create economic and currency stability. Crises can be detected through economic indicators such as Indonesia Stock Exchange Composite Index (IDX Composite) or Jakarta Composite Index (JCI). This study aims to determine the appropriate model and to predict the currency crisis in Indonesia from November 2022 to October 2023 based on the JCI indicator. The study begins by forming an AR model, then a volatility model in the form of an ARCH model, and finally a combined volatility model and Markov switching two-state model. This combined model is then used to form a smoothed probability that can detect crises. The results of the study indicate that the MS-ARCH(2,1) model is the appropriate model, and from the detection results, it is found that Indonesia will not experience a currency crisis from November 2022 to October 2023.
