Abstract

ntroduction: Stunting remains a persistent public health challenge in Indonesia, affecting child growth, cognitive development, and long-term productivity. Despite national policy efforts, gaps in implementation at the primary health care level continue to limit program effectiveness, particularly in community engagement and service utilization. This community service program aimed to strengthen the implementation of stunting prevention policies through a primary health care approach by enhancing the capacity of health workers and community health cadres, and improving household-level practices. Methods: A participatory approach was applied involving 50 participants, including health workers, cadres, and mothers of children under five. The program consisted of training sessions, nutrition education, mentoring of at-risk families, and routine growth monitoring over three months. Evaluation was conducted using pre- and post-test assessments, structured observations, and questionnaires. Results: The intervention resulted in a marked increase in knowledge scores (from 62.4 to 84.7). Appropriate feeding practices improved from 46% to 78%, while attendance at posyandu services increased from 58% to 85%. Early improvements in child growth indicators were observed, with 64% of children showing better weight-related outcomes. Conclusion: Strengthening primary health care capacity and community engagement effectively supports the implementation of stunting prevention policies. This approach demonstrates potential as a scalable model for accelerating stunting reduction in similar settings.

Abstract

Introduction: Hypertension is a primary global health concern often referred to as a "silent killer" due to its asymptomatic progression and high risk of cardiovascular complications. Non-pharmacological interventions, such as structured physical exercises, have gained attention as effective alternatives to control blood pressure levels. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of hypertension exercise in lowering blood pressure among elderly hypertensive patients. Methods: A descriptive case study design involved two hypertensive patients aged 60–65 at Tamalanrea Health Center, Makassar. The intervention consisted of a three-day hypertension exercise regimen conducted twice daily. Blood pressure was measured using a digital sphygmomanometer before and after each exercise session. Additional data for the exercise program was collected using questionnaires, observation sheets, interviews, and standard operating procedures (SOPs). Results: The findings revealed a significant reduction in systolic and diastolic blood pressure. Respondent 1 experienced a decrease from 170/72 mmHg to 130/70 mmHg, while Respondent 2's blood pressure reduced from 194/100 mmHg to 140/75 mmHg after the intervention. Conclusion: Hypertension-specific physical exercise effectively reduced blood pressure among hypertensive patients. It is recommended as a safe, low-cost, and accessible non-pharmacological therapy, especially for older people

Abstract

Communication skills in English are an essential competency for nursing students to face the challenges of globalization and international healthcare services. However, many students still struggle to express themselves confidently in real clinical contexts. This community service program aimed to enhance the communication ability of nursing students through English training using the role-play method. The training was conducted with final-year nursing students at Politeknik Sandi Karsa and applied a participatory approach consisting of lectures, demonstrations, role play simulations, group discussions, and reflective evaluations. Various clinical scenarios were designed, such as explaining medication usage, calming anxious patients, and describing vital sign procedures. The program was implemented over two days, with the first day focusing on interactive material delivery and facilitator demonstrations, while the second day emphasized practical role-play performance with direct feedback. A total of 23 students participated actively in this activity. The results indicated a significant improvement in students’ confidence and ability to use English in professional healthcare communication. Participants expressed positive responses toward the method, highlighting that role play reduced speaking anxiety, increased motivation, and fostered readiness for real clinical interactions. The Focus Group Discussion (FGD) confirmed that this method not only improved English proficiency but also enhanced soft skills such as empathy, teamwork, and therapeutic communication. The outcomes suggest that role–play–based English training is an effective strategy to support nursing education and should be integrated regularly into the curriculum to prepare graduates for global healthcare demands.
