Abstract

In the context of Indonesian higher education transformation, lecturer performance remains a critical yet often underutilized factor in achieving institutional excellence. Grounded in motivation and compensation theory, this study investigates the direct and indirect effects of financial and non-financial compensation on intrinsic motivation and lecturer performance. The research employed an explanatory quantitative method with path analysis, using all permanent lecturers at STAIN Jember as the census sample. Data were collected through questionnaires, interviews, and documentation. The findings reveal that non-financial compensation significantly influences intrinsic motivation (beta = 0.618), whereas financial compensation shows no significant effect on either intrinsic motivation (beta = -0.143) or lecturer performance (beta = -0.058). Moreover, intrinsic motivation itself does not significantly mediate the relationship between compensation and performance. The study concludes that non-financial factors such as promotion fairness, training opportunities, work facilities, and a supportive atmosphere are more pivotal in fostering lecturer motivation. It is recommended that STAIN Jember prioritize improving non-financial compensation to enhance intrinsic motivation, though further research is needed to identify other determinants of lecturer performance. Dalam konteks transformasi pendidikan tinggi di Indonesia, kinerja dosen masih menjadi elemen kritis yang kerap belum optimal dalam mendukung keunggulan institusi. Berlandaskan teori motivasi dan kompensasi, penelitian ini menguji pengaruh langsung dan tidak langsung kompensasi finansial dan nonfinansial terhadap motivasi intrinsik serta kinerja dosen. Metode penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif eksplanatori dengan analisis jalur, melibatkan seluruh dosen tetap STAIN Jember sebagai sensus. Data dikumpulkan melalui kuesioner, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa kompensasi nonfinansial berpengaruh signifikan terhadap motivasi intrinsik (beta 0,618), sementara kompensasi finansial tidak berpengaruh signifikan terhadap motivasi intrinsik (beta -0,143) maupun kinerja dosen (beta -0,058). Motivasi intrinsik juga tidak memediasi hubungan antara kompensasi dan kinerja secara signifikan. Kesimpulannya, faktor nonfinansial seperti keadilan promosi, pelatihan, fasilitas kerja, dan suasana kerja yang kondusif lebih berperan dalam meningkatkan motivasi dosen. Disarankan agar STAIN Jember memprioritaskan peningkatan kompensasi nonfinansial untuk memperkuat motivasi intrinsik, meskipun penelitian lanjutan diperlukan untuk mengidentifikasi determinan lain kinerja dosen.

Abstract

In today’s competitive public sector, employee performance is critical to effective governance, yet it remains shaped by multifaceted organizational factors. This study investigates how leader behavior, motivation, and the organizational environment influence employee performance at BAPPEDA in Probolinggo City. Using a census approach, data were collected from all 32 employees via questionnaires and interviews, then analyzed with regression and path analysis in SPSS 10 for Windows. The results show that leader behavior significantly affects motivation (beta = 0.655) and the organizational environment (beta = 0.366), and that motivation also significantly influences the organizational environment (beta = 0.408). Furthermore, all three variables positively affect employee performance, with the organizational environment demonstrating the strongest total influence (45.1%), followed by motivation (43.1%) and leader behavior (26.9%). The study concludes that although leader behavior and motivation contribute meaningfully, the organizational environment plays a dominant role in shaping employee performance. It is recommended that BAPPEDA prioritize fostering a conducive organizational environment and strengthen teamwork, while future research should explore additional variables to further enhance performance outcomes. Di sektor publik yang kompetitif, kinerja pegawai menjadi krusial bagi tata kelola yang efektif, namun tetap dipengaruhi oleh berbagai faktor organisasi. Penelitian ini menganalisis pengaruh perilaku pemimpin, motivasi, dan lingkungan organisasi terhadap kinerja pegawai di BAPPEDA Kota Probolinggo. Dengan metode sensus, data dikumpulkan dari seluruh 32 pegawai melalui kuesioner dan wawancara, lalu dianalisis menggunakan regresi dan analisis jalur dengan SPSS 10 for Windows. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perilaku pemimpin berpengaruh signifikan terhadap motivasi (beta = 0,655) dan lingkungan organisasi (beta = 0,366), serta motivasi juga berpengaruh signifikan terhadap lingkungan organisasi (beta = 0,408). Ketiga variabel tersebut secara positif mempengaruhi kinerja pegawai, dengan lingkungan organisasi memiliki pengaruh total terbesar (45,1%), diikuti motivasi (43,1%) dan perilaku pemimpin (26,9%). Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa meskipun perilaku pemimpin dan motivasi memberikan kontribusi penting, lingkungan organisasi berperan dominan dalam membentuk kinerja pegawai. Direkomendasikan agar BAPPEDA memprioritaskan penciptaan lingkungan organisasi yang kondusif dan penguatan kerja sama tim, serta penelitian selanjutnya mengeksplorasi variabel lain untuk lebih meningkatkan kinerja.

Abstract

Rising public awareness of higher education has intensified competition among private universities to attract prospective students, making it essential to understand the marketing mix factors that influence their choices. This study aims to identify the marketing mix factors considered by students and determine the most dominant factor in selecting Abdurrachman Saleh University in Situbondo. The analysis was conducted on 35 marketing mix variables using factor analysis with proportional random sampling of 250 respondents. The results showed that 33 variables were grouped into 11 new factors with eigenvalues above 1 and a cumulative total variance of 64.133%. Location was the primary consideration, with a variance value of 9.641%, followed by product (7.744%) and price (6.986%). It is concluded that all marketing mix factors are considered by students, with location being the most important. It is recommended that universities pay attention to strategic location while improving study program quality and teaching staff. Kesadaran masyarakat yang meningkat terhadap pendidikan tinggi mendorong persaingan ketat antar perguruan tinggi swasta dalam menarik calon mahasiswa, sehingga penting untuk memahami faktor-faktor bauran pemasaran yang menjadi pertimbangan utama. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengidentifikasi dan menentukan faktor-faktor bauran pemasaran serta faktor yang paling dominan dipertimbangkan mahasiswa dalam memilih kuliah di Universitas Abdurahman Saleh Situbondo. Analisis dilakukan terhadap 35 variabel bauran pemasaran menggunakan analisis faktor dengan teknik proportional random sampling terhadap 250 responden. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa 33 variabel tergabung dalam 11 faktor baru dengan eigenvalue lebih dari 1 dan total varians kumulatif sebesar 64,133%. Faktor lokasi merupakan pertimbangan utama dengan nilai varians 9,641%, diikuti faktor produk (7,744%) dan harga (6,986%). Disimpulkan bahwa semua faktor bauran pemasaran dipertimbangkan mahasiswa, dengan lokasi sebagai faktor terpenting. Direkomendasikan agar perguruan tinggi memperhatikan lokasi strategis sekaligus meningkatkan kualitas program studi dan staf pengajar.

Abstract

The existence of Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) as traditional Islamic educational institutions in Indonesia faces significant challenges due to rapid advances in science and technology and shifting social demands. This research is motivated by the need to reconstruct the pesantren curriculum to remain relevant to human resource development. The study aims to analyze community perceptions, the placement of graduates, and the factors and aspects underlying pesantren curriculum reconstruction. A descriptive method was employed using five pesantren samples in Jember Regency. Data were collected through interviews, questionnaires, and documentation, then analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. The findings reveal that pesantren play a strategic role in community development, yet most graduates are absorbed into religious and social sectors. The main drivers for reconstruction are advances in science and technology, social change, and demands for religious reinterpretation. The most urgent aspects to reconstruct include materials, methods, and evaluation systems. In conclusion, curriculum reconstruction depends heavily on the kyai’s policy, and it is recommended to integrate religious, general, and vocational subjects with local government support. Eksistensi pesantren sebagai lembaga pendidikan Islam tradisional di Indonesia menghadapi tantangan besar akibat perkembangan ilmu pengetahuan, teknologi, dan tuntutan sosial masyarakat yang terus berubah. Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh perlunya rekonstruksi kurikulum pesantren agar relevan dengan pengembangan sumber daya manusia. Tujuan penelitian adalah menganalisis persepsi masyarakat, alokasi posisional lulusan, serta faktor-faktor yang melatarbelakangi dan aspek-aspek rekonstruksi kurikulum pesantren. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif dengan sampel lima pesantren di Kabupaten Jember. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara, angket, dan dokumentasi, lalu dianalisis secara kualitatif dan kuantitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pesantren memiliki peran strategis dalam pembangunan masyarakat, namun lulusan sebagian besar terserap di sektor sosial keagamaan. Faktor utama rekonstruksi adalah perkembangan IPTEKS, perubahan sosial, dan tuntutan interpretasi keagamaan. Aspek yang paling mendesak direkonstruksi meliputi materi, metode, dan sistem evaluasi. Kesimpulannya, rekonstruksi kurikulum pesantren sangat tergantung pada kebijakan kyai, dan direkomendasikan adanya integrasi materi agama, umum, dan keterampilan serta dukungan pemerintah daerah.

Abstract

The difference between the intellectual tradition of the pesantren and other forms of education is the existence of the sanad. From the perspective of Ibn Qayyim Al-Jauzy, sanad can be said to go beyond thecologicalal linearity of Islamic knowledge which is commonly called ‘ilm jally. Not only that, Imam Syafi'i once said that if knowledge is not memorized by the sanad in the book then the Zindiq people will preach in the pulpit. The famous saying of Imam Abdullah bin Mubarak says, and is part of religion, without sanad surely people will say whatever they want. Even advanced sanad (ittishal al-sanad) is one of the conditions for the validity of a hadith as described in the musthalahul hadith book. For this reason, hadith expert scholars (al-muhadditsin) pay great attention to sanad in their disciplines. Most of this muhadditsin write special books about sanad. In its development, not only about the study of hadith, all scientific enthusiasts, book history, and scientific genealogy through teachers and students are written in a book known as tsabat. In the context of scientific knowledge, it can then be traced to the products of his thought. For this reason, the author wants to provide a re-description, of how true the thinking of native Indonesian (archipelagic) scholars is in the context of building an existing national attitude

Abstract

The erosion of moral values and local wisdom in the era of pluralism and rapid modernization has raised concerns about the sustainability of ethical foundations in Indonesian society. This study aims to examine how Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) preserve and reinforce Nusantara ethics amid these contemporary challenges. Employing a qualitative approach with a library research design, data were collected from books, peer-reviewed journal articles, and relevant research reports. The findings indicate that pesantren maintain ethical continuity through the integration of Nusantara ethics into their curriculum, adaptive responses toward modernity, and the exemplary moral leadership of kyai supported by a disciplined santri culture. The discussion highlights enabling factors such as charismatic leadership, adab-centered educational practices, community involvement, and technological literacy, while also identifying challenges that include global cultural pressures, resource limitations, and shifting digital morals. In conclusion, pesantren continue to function as ethical and cultural strongholds that safeguard Indonesia’s moral identity in the modern era.

Abstract

The phenomenon of harassment of kiai in a Trans7 broadcast on October 13, 2025, indicates a serious problem in religious ethics and public communication. As a figure of ulama and guardian of community morals, kiai holds a central position in the Nusantara Islamic tradition, so that respect for him is part of Islamic etiquette based on the values ​​of the Qur'an. This study aims to analyze media representations of kiai figures and examine how the principles of Islamic etiquette can become a framework for criticism of communication practices that demean the dignity of ulama. The method used is descriptive qualitative through content analysis and maudhu'i interpretation of Quranic verses on the ethics of speaking, respect for ulama, and social ethics, combined with Stuart Hall's representation theory. The results show that the media encoding process reflects the logic of entertainment capitalism that normalizes jokes about kiai. Meanwhile, audience decoding is divided into three positions: dominant, negotiating, and opposition. The Qur'anic perspective assesses that this practice is contrary to the principles of etiquette in QS. Al-Baqarah: 83, QS. Al-Ahzab: 70, and QS. Al-Hujurat: 2, 6, 11. This study emphasizes the importance of Qur'anic ethics as a critical paradigm in building a civilized media culture and maintaining the dignity of scholars.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the management of professional zakat in poverty alleviation programs implemented by the National Amil Zakat Agency (BAZNAS) of Situbondo Regency. Poverty remains a persistent socio-economic problem that requires alternative instruments beyond government fiscal policies, including Islamic social finance mechanisms such as zakat. This research employs a qualitative approach using document-based analysis. Data were obtained from official reports of BAZNAS Situbondo, relevant regulations on zakat management, and statistical data on poverty issued by authorized institutions. The data were analyzed descriptively and analytically to examine the stages of zakat management, including collection, distribution, and utilization of professional zakat funds in relation to poverty alleviation objectives. The findings indicate that the management of professional zakat by BAZNAS Situbondo has been structured in accordance with existing regulations and oriented toward both consumptive and productive poverty alleviation programs. However, several challenges remain, particularly in optimizing the potential of professional zakat and strengthening its integration with broader poverty reduction strategies. This study contributes to the literature on Islamic economics by providing empirical insights into local-level zakat management and offers policy recommendations for improving the effectiveness of professional zakat as an instrument for poverty alleviation. Abstract

The increasing spread of digital da’wah based on takfiri doctrine has threatened the religious stability and social cohesion of Muslims in Indonesia. This study aims to analyze the role of kyais' charismatic authority in building digital resistance against takfiri radicalism in Indonesia's networked society. Using a qualitative case study design, data were collected through in-depth interviews with kyais, students, media managers, and congregations; observations of Islamic boarding school activities; and documentation in the form of da’wah archives and digital publications from an Islamic boarding school that actively promotes Islamic moderation. The findings indicate that (1) the charisma of the kyai's knowledge dampens the effects of algorithmic radical content because the congregation trusts the kyai's explanations more than extreme digital narratives, (2) Islamic boarding school moderation shifts the congregation's religious discourse style from takfiri rhetoric to peaceful dialogue, and (3) the sanad of knowledge forms ideological resilience so that the congregation feels confident in the source of moderate teachings. The novelty of this research lies in the integration of charismatic authority and digital resistance as a model of deradicalization based on Islamic moderation. The implication is that Islamic boarding schools should expand their digital da’wah by emphasizing the charisma of their knowledge and sanad (traditional Islamic lineage), thereby strengthening the effectiveness of Islamic moderation in both online and offline spaces.
