Abstract

Pesantren are Islamic educational institutions that have played a historical and strategic role in shaping children’s character and instilling Islamic values. In the modern era, children’s education faces multidimensional challenges arising from globalization, the rapid development of digital technology, and shifts in social and cultural values. This article aims to systematically examine the role of pesantren in children’s education in the modern era, with a particular focus on the integration of Islamic values, character formation, institutional challenges, and strategies for strengthening the role of pesantren. This study employs a qualitative approach using a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method, drawing on relevant scholarly sources, including journal articles, academic books, and policy documents. The findings indicate that pesantren function as value-based educational institutions that integrate religious education, formal education, and daily life guidance through a boarding school system. This educational model enables the consistent internalization of Islamic values and character development in children. Nevertheless, pesantren face significant challenges, including the rapid advancement of digital technology, changes in students’ characteristics, and increasing demands for educational quality improvement. Therefore, strengthening integrative curricula, enhancing educators’ competencies, and the wise utilization of technology are key strategies to maintain the relevance of pesantren in children’s education in the modern era.

Abstract

This study investigates the effects of workload, change management, and sense of belonging on personnel performance at the East Java Regional Police Inspectorate. The increasing complexity of policing in the digital era requires internal oversight units to maintain high performance while adapting to organizational change and managing escalating task demands. This research employed a quantitative explanatory design using a census approach, involving 46 personnel as respondents. Primary data were collected through a structured questionnaire measured on a five-point Likert scale. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression with the support of SPSS 25.0. The results indicate that workload has a negative and significant effect on personnel performance, suggesting that excessive task demands may reduce work effectiveness. In contrast, change management and sense of belonging have positive and significant effects on performance, demonstrating that structured organizational change and strong psychological attachment to the organization enhance personnel outcomes. Simultaneous testing confirms that workload, change management, and sense of belonging jointly exert a significant influence on personnel performance, with the model explaining 85.7% of performance variance. These findings highlight that personnel performance in an internal police oversight context is shaped by the interaction of operational pressure, organizational adaptability, and psychological factors. The study contributes to the human resource management and organizational behavior literature by providing empirical evidence from a law enforcement oversight setting and offers practical insights for improving performance through balanced workload management, effective change strategies, and the cultivation of a strong sense of belonging among personnel.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the practice of tarah in the sale and purchase of citrus fruit by farmers in Bangorejo District, Banyuwangi Regency, from the perspective of the Shafi'i School of Law. The approach used in this study is qualitative, with data collection techniques through observation, interviews and documentation. The results of the analysis say that tarah or pieces of weight taken by the buyer, is a form of gift from the seller whose law is sunnah, because the tarah taken by the buyer is written in the note and there is willingness from the seller, in addition, giving tarah from the seller is a form of practice to make it easier to carry out buying and selling transactions, where Allah SWT promises to give mercy to sellers who make it easier for buyers.

Abstract

The phenomenon of harassment of kiai in a Trans7 broadcast on October 13, 2025, indicates a serious problem in religious ethics and public communication. As a figure of ulama and guardian of community morals, kiai holds a central position in the Nusantara Islamic tradition, so that respect for him is part of Islamic etiquette based on the values ​​of the Qur'an. This study aims to analyze media representations of kiai figures and examine how the principles of Islamic etiquette can become a framework for criticism of communication practices that demean the dignity of ulama. The method used is descriptive qualitative through content analysis and maudhu'i interpretation of Quranic verses on the ethics of speaking, respect for ulama, and social ethics, combined with Stuart Hall's representation theory. The results show that the media encoding process reflects the logic of entertainment capitalism that normalizes jokes about kiai. Meanwhile, audience decoding is divided into three positions: dominant, negotiating, and opposition. The Qur'anic perspective assesses that this practice is contrary to the principles of etiquette in QS. Al-Baqarah: 83, QS. Al-Ahzab: 70, and QS. Al-Hujurat: 2, 6, 11. This study emphasizes the importance of Qur'anic ethics as a critical paradigm in building a civilized media culture and maintaining the dignity of scholars.

Abstract

Literasi keuangan syariah menjadi faktor penting dalam mendukung keberlanjutan dan peningkatan kinerja usaha mikro, kecil, dan menengah (UMKM), khususnya di negara dengan perkembangan keuangan syariah yang pesat. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji dan mensintesis literatur empiris dan konseptual terkait peran literasi keuangan syariah terhadap kinerja UMKM. Metodologi penelitian menggunakan studi literatur dengan menganalisis artikel ilmiah dari jurnal nasional dan internasional bereputasi yang dipublikasikan dalam sepuluh tahun terakhir. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa literasi keuangan syariah yang mencakup pengetahuan terhadap produk keuangan syariah, sikap keuangan, dan perilaku keuangan sesuai prinsip syariah berpengaruh positif terhadap kualitas pengambilan keputusan keuangan, peningkatan akses ke layanan keuangan syariah, serta perbaikan kinerja UMKM yang tercermin dari profitabilitas, pertumbuhan usaha, dan keberlanjutan bisnis. Kesimpulan penelitian menegaskan bahwa literasi keuangan syariah merupakan prasyarat strategis dalam memperkuat inklusi keuangan syariah dan kinerja UMKM. Kontribusi penelitian ini adalah penyusunan kerangka konseptual yang dapat menjadi rujukan bagi penelitian selanjutnya dan perumusan kebijakan pengembangan ekonomi syariah. Abstract

The development of globalization brings significant challenges for Islamic educational institutions, including Islamic boarding schools. Social, economic, and technological changes require Islamic boarding schools to adapt without abandoning the traditional values that are their identity. This study aims to analyze the role of kiai leadership in the management of Al Azhar Menganti Gresik Islamic Boarding School in the global era. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive research type. Data collection techniques were carried out through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. Research informants included kiai caretakers, pesantren managers, and ustadz. Data analysis used the Miles and Huberman model which includes data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that kiai leadership plays a strategic role in maintaining the balance between pesantren values and the demands of globalization through strengthening institutional vision, participatory decision-making, and developing adaptive pesantren management. Kyai leadership is a key factor in maintaining the sustainability and competitiveness of pesantren in the global era.

Abstract

Hegemoni globalisasi telah mendisrupsi tatanan nilai keluarga Muslim melalui penyebaran ideologi childfree dan kebebasan seksual yang mendekonstruksi filosofi pernikahan Islam dari orientasi sakral-transendental menjadi kontrak privat berbasis otonomi tubuh semata. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi konstruksi epistemologis dan strategi respon tekstual dalam literatur pesantren kontemporer saat mengontekstualisasikan doktrin Maqasid al-Shari’ah, khususnya aspek hifz al-nasl (pemeliharaan keturunan), guna menjawab validitas argumen hak reproduksi global tersebut. Menggunakan metode penelitian kepustakaan (library research) dengan pendekatan filosofis-yuridis, penelitian ini menelaah secara kritis kitab-kitab turats, keputusan Bahtsul Masail, dan pemikiran ulama pesantren modern yang dianalisis menggunakan pisau bedah usul fiqh seperti Sadd al-Dharai’ dan Maslahah. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa literatur pesantren tidak merespons modernitas dengan penolakan dogmatis buta, melainkan melalui dialektika metodologis yang canggih; yakni dengan melakukan distingsi tegas antara tanzim al-nasl (pengaturan kelahiran) yang diterima sebagai bentuk adaptasi rasional-medis, dengan tahdid al-nasl (pemutusan keturunan) yang ditolak keras karena melanggar hak Tuhan (haqqullah). Pesantren merekonstruksi narasi prokreasi bukan sekadar sebagai fungsi biologis, melainkan sebagai investasi peradaban dan mandat teologis yang tidak dapat dibatalkan oleh hak asasi individu. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa sikap pesantren merepresentasikan bentuk resiliensi intelektual hukum Islam yang menawarkan konsep “kebebasan bertanggung jawab”, sekaligus berfungsi sebagai benteng imunitas sosial (social immunity) yang vital untuk menjaga keberlangsungan demografi umat dan ketahanan keluarga di tengah gempuran hedonisme global

Abstract

This study is motivated by the limited familiarity of students in Islamic Higher Education Institutions (PTKI) with kitab kuning (classical Islamic texts) and the urgent need to reform pesantren systems in order to remain relevant within the dynamics of modern education. The main issue addressed is how to build effective synergy between pesantren curricula and university academic curricula to reduce this intellectual competency gap. Using a qualitative approach with a case study method at Pesantren Luhur Sabilussalam, data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The findings indicate that the implementation of the “Four Pillars of Innovation” includes four main components, namely (1) the hybrid identity of mahasantri (student-santri), (2) an integrated curriculum based on the Semester Credit System (SKS), (3) hybrid pedagogy through the integration of bandongan and discussion-based learning, and (4) an egalitarian leadership ecosystem. These components have proven effective in improving academic achievement and enhancing mastery of kitab kuning. The distinctive feature of this model lies in the dual role of the kiai as both pesantren leader and university academic. In conclusion, the student pesantren model offers a strategic solution to strengthen intellectual competence and character development within Islamic higher education. Abstract

Pesantren are the oldest Islamic educational institutions in Indonesia and play a strategic role in shaping the religious character of students (santri). Amid the increasing phenomenon of religious radicalism and extremism, pesantren are often positioned ambivalently: on the one hand, they are accused of being fertile grounds for radicalism; on the other hand, they function as strongholds of Islamic moderation. This article aims to analyze the role of pesantren education as a strategy for preventing religious radicalism and extremism through a literature review. The study employs a library research method by examining books, reputable national and international journal articles, and policy documents relevant to pesantren, Islamic education, and deradicalization. The findings indicate that pesantren education contributes significantly to preventing radicalism through the internalization of religious moderation values, the strengthening of kiai’s scholarly authority, the preservation of classical Islamic scholarly traditions (turath), and pesantren culture that emphasizes the principles of tawassuth (moderation), tasamuh (tolerance), tawazun (balance), and i‘tidal (justice). Pesantren also play a role in building the ideological resilience of santri so that they are not easily exposed to extremist religious ideologies. This article recommends strengthening pesantren curricula based on religious moderation and enhancing students’ digital literacy as preventive measures against radicalism in the digital era

Abstract

Curriculum studies on Islamic Religious Education (PAI) at the Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI) level have focused predominantly on pedagogical methods and content sequencing. The epistemological foundations of the curriculum have received comparatively little critical attention. This study examines the epistemological alignment between KMA 183/2019 the Fikih curriculum for MI and the scholarly knowledge tradition of the Indonesian pesantren, with the aim of identifying structural gaps and their practical implications for Fikih learning at the primary level. A mixed qualitative design combining document analysis and systematic literature review (SLR) was employed. Framework analysis was applied to all 96 Fikih competency standards (KD) across grades I–VI, coded against three epistemological criteria derived from the pesantren scholarly tradition: sanad-based transmission authority, maṣlaḥah orientation, and moral-cognitive integration (adab). The SLR reviewed 38 peer-reviewed sources on pesantren epistemology and MI curriculum (2019–2025). Three structural gaps were identified: teacher authority is constituted administratively rather than through intellectual lineage; 78% of KD are cognitively oriented without explicit social-benefit aims; and Fikih and Akidah-Akhlak are structurally disconnected despite their epistemological interdependence in the pesantren tradition. These gaps are structural rather than incidental, with direct implications for teacher professional development, curriculum revision, and classroom practice in MI Fikih education
