Abstract

AbstractThe main objective of this research is to find out whether the test items made by the teachers of SMPN 14 Pontianak were already valid and reliable especially for pre-national examination test. This test was analyzed by case study research with documentary study. The  test  items  used  as  the  sample  was  English  test in pre-national examination test designed by teachers of SMPN 14 Pontianak.  The study analyzed pre-national examination test which consist of 50 test items with a total participant of 344 students. The findings were divided into three parts: the appropriateness of test items with the principle of test construction, the validity and the reliability. For the appropriateness of the test items with the principle, the test did not fulfill the principle because the test items were constructed without test indicator. In content validity, the test items also did not show the specific learning purpose of the material being tested. However, the test score reliability calculated using by K-R20 was 0.798, which means the test was categorized as reliable and good to use as diagnostic test. Finally, the researcher recommended the teachers to revise the test items especially errors on item difficulty, item discrimination and distractor analysis.Keywords:Pre-National Examination Test, Test Item Analysis, Validity, Reliability, Junior High School, Pontianak Regency

Abstract

Abstract: This research is aimed to find out whether Reciprocal Teaching Technique effective in teaching reading narrative text. This research was conducted to eighth graders of SMPN 11 Sepauk in 2014/2015. The population is 68 students with class VIII A of 32 students as sample by using cluster sampling. The researcher conducted a pre-experimental research. The data was collected by using measurement technique. Essay test was used in collecting data. Data was collected by administering pre-test, giving treatment, administering post-test, and analyzing the test result with t-test score (7.47) was higher than t-table (1.69) at 0.05 confidence level. The result showed mean score of pre-test was 35.15 and post-test 55.78 and difference scores pre-test and post-test was 20.63. It means the Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) that saying the use of reciprocal teaching technique is effective in teaching reading narrative text to the eight grade students of SMPN 11 Sepauk is accepted. Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menemukan apakah tehnik Reciprocal Teaching efektif untuk pengajaran membaca teks narasi. Penelitian ini diberlakukan kepada siswa kelas delapan SMPN 11 Sepauk tahun ajaran 2014/2015. Populasi dalam penelitian ini terdiri dari 68 siswa dengan kelas 8A yang terdiri dari 32 siswa sebagai sampel, dipilih dengan menggunakan cluster sampling. Peneliti menggunakan metode pre-eksperimental dalam penelitiannya. Data dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan teknik ukuran. Tes esei digunakan sebagai alat untuk mengumpulkan data. Data dikumpulkan dengan cara mengatur pre-test, memberikan penanganan, mengatur post-test, dan menganalisis hasil tes dengan nilai t-test (7,47) dimana hasilnya menunjukkan nilai yang lebih tinggi dibandingkankan dengan t-table (1,69) pada kenyamanan penelitian dengan tingkat kesalahan 0,05. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan nilai rata-rata dari pre-test ialah 35,15 dan nilai rata-rata dari post-test ialah 55,78 sedangkan perbedaan antara keduanya adalah 20,63. Ini berarti bahwa pernyataan Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) yang menyatakan penggunaan reciprocal teaching technique efektif untuk digunakan dalam pengajaran membaca teks narasi kepada siswa kelas delapan SMPN 11 Sepauk dapat diterima. Kata Kunci: Teknik Mengajar Reciprocal, Pengajaran Membaca, Teks Narasi.

Abstract

AbstractStudents’ vocabulary mastery in writing descriptive text of class VIII A at SMP Jasa Mulia Sungai Baru were still weak. This research was conducted to improve students’ in writing descriptive text by using realia. This research used Classroom Action Research (CAR) and the participants of this research were twenty one students of class VIII A at SMP Jasa Mulia. The participants were taught to write descriptive text by using realia. Field notes, observation checklist and writing test were used to gather the data. The students’ score have improved significantly. The result on second cycle there was 28.6 % students could write descriptive text well. The result on third cycle was 86 % students got good score and could write descriptive text well. The process of students in the classroom and students’ score reflected that the realia can help students’ problem in writing a descriptive text. Otherwise, the realia need other help such as teacher’s explanation, example and guided questions.Key words: Descriptive Text, Realia, Writing.

Abstract

Abstract: The research was conducted to identify and analyze figurative language (personification, metaphor, hyperbole and paradox) in Adele’s selected song lyrics. They are covered with two types of figurative language, comparative (personification and metaphor) and contradictive (hyperbole and paradox). The research used descriptive qualitative method. Procedure of analysis were firstly looking for Adele’s song lyrics from the website Azlyrics.com, secondly reading and copying the lyrics, thirdly identifying the sentences or phrases which have figurative language, fourthly describing about figurative language that was taken, and lastly giving conclusion. The research identified twenty five figurative languages in song lyrics.There are eight lines identified as personification, eleven lines identified as metaphor, three lines identified as hyperbole, and four lines identified as paradox. In conclusion, the dominant figurative language is metaphor, which is included into comparative figurative language. Keywords: Figurative Language, Adele’s Song Lyrics Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi dan menganalisa gaya bahasa (personifikasi, metafora, hiperbola dan paradoks) dalam lirik-lirik lagu terpilih Adele. Gaya bahasa ini terbagi ke dalam dua tipe, yaitu perbandingan (personifikasi dan metafora) dan pertentangan (hiperbola dan paradoks). Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Prosedur analisa nya ialah pertama mencari lirik lagu Adele dari situs Azlyrics.com, kedua membaca dan menyalin lirik lagu tersebut, ketiga mengidentifikasi kalimat-kalimat atau frasa-frasa yang mengandung gaya bahasa, keempat mendeskripsikan tentang gaya bahasa yang telah didapat, dan terakhir memberikan kesimpulan. Penelitian ini mengidentifikasi dua puluh lima gaya bahasa yang terdapat dalam lirik lagu. Terdapat delapan baris yang diidentifikasi merupakan gaya bahasa personifikasi, sebelas baris merupakan gaya bahasa metafora, tiga baris merupakan gaya bahasa hiperbola, dan empat baris merupakan gaya bahasa paradoks. Kesimpulannya, gaya bahasa yang paling sering digunakan adalah metafora yang termasuk ke dalam gaya bahasa perpandingan. Kata kunci: Gaya bahasa, Lirik-Lirik Lagu Adele

Abstract

Abstract: This research discussed the use of planted question technique to improve students’ speaking participation in asking question. This research was conducted to the eighth grade B students of MTs Negeri 1 MempawahHilir. There were thirty six students.The method used was the classroom action research. The findings showed that the percentage of students’ speaking participation in asking question in the first cycle was 16.6% (poor). It kept going up to the level of 38.8% (poor) in the second cycle, and in the third cycle, the students’ percentage of students’ speaking participation in asking question was improving to the level of 63.8% (average to good). The field note that was fulfilled by the collaborator also showed the same result. The students’ participation showed the improvement from cycle to cycle. They were able to erase their shyness and asked question by using English. All of the goals in teaching and learning process have been fulfilled in the third cycle. Through this research, the students’ speaking participation in asking question was improved in the number of students who was participating in asking question. Keywords : Participation, Asking, Planted Question Technique Abstrak: Penelitian ini menjelaskan penggunaan tehnik pertanyaan yang ditanamkan untuk meningkatkan partisipasi bertanya siswa dalam mengajukan pertanyaan. Penelitian ini dilakukan kepada siswa kelas 8B MTs Negeri 1 Mempawah Hilir yang berjumalah 36 siswa. Metode yang digunakan adalah penelitian tindakan kelas. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa persentase partisipasi bertanya siswa dalam mengajukan pertanyaan pada sikluspertamaadalah 16.6% (rendah).Kemudian persentase tersebut naik ke angka 38.8% (rendah) pada siklu skedua. Dan pada siklus ketiga, persentase partisipasi bertanya siswa dalam mengajukan pertanyaan meningkat ke angka 63.8% (rata-rata menuju baik). Catatan lapangan yang ditulis oleh kolaborator juga menunjukkan hasil yang sama. Partisipasi  siswa menunjukkan peningkatan pada setiap siklus, sehingga mereka bias menghilangkan rasa malu mereka untuk bertanya menggunakan Bahasa Inggris. Seluruh target dalam proses belajar mengajar sudah terpenuhi pada siklus ketiga. Melalui penelitian ini, partisipasi bertanya siswa dalam mengajukan pertanyaan meningkat dalam hal jumlah siswa yang berpartisipasimengajukanpertanyaan. Abstract

AbstractThis research discussed about increasing Students’ Speaking Ability Using Sequenced Pictures Story, A Classroom Action Research on the eighth grade Students of SMP Negeri 7 Pontianak in Academic Year 2017/2018. The focus was on pronunciation aspect. The research problem was “How does Sequenced Pictures Story technique improve students’ speaking ability of year-8 students of SMP Negeri 7 Pontianak  in academic year 2017/2018?” In teaching-learning process, the participants were 25 students of VIII B class of which the teacher and the researcher was a collaborator. The result of this research showed that students’ speaking ability, especially in pronunciation had increased. In first cycle, students had some problems in pronouncing words, and pause inappropriately, while in the second cycle, they had time to practice more, thus their problems were solved. In conclusion, Sequenced Pictures Story could be applied to increase students’ speaking ability, especially pronunciation.Key words: Sequenced Pictures Story, Speaking Ability, Pronunciation

Abstract

Abstract: This research answers the problem that is, the use of directed reading thinking activity strategy improves students’ reading comprehension on narrative text of the eighth grade of SMP N 2 Pontianak. This study was conducted to answer the following problems:How does directed reading-thinking activity  improve students’ reading comprehension in the orientation, complication and resolution in narrative text?In this research, direct reading thinking strategy is reading strategy in which focused on developing the students reading comprehension in finding out the main idea and the detailed information and understanding the reference, inference and the new or unknown vocabularies of narrative text. This study used classroom action research method. The tools of data collection used observation checklist, and field note. On the first, second and the third cycle the writer used picture and text as helping strategy. From the result of measurement test, the data showed that the students’ mean score had improvement from the first cycle to the third cycle. The research results showed that students’ reading comprehension on narrative text improved after being taught by Directed Reading-Thinking Activity Strategy.   Keyword: Reading Comprehension, Narrative Text, and Direct Thinking Activity Strategy. Abstrak: Penelitian ini menjawab masalah mengenai penggunaan strategi membaca cermat  secara langsung dalam meningkatkan pemahaman membaca pada teks narrative terhadap siswa  kelas delapan di SMP Negeri 2 Pontianak . studi ini untuk menjawab permasalah berikut: bagaimana strategi membaca cermat  secara langsung dapat meningkatkan kemampuan pemahaman membaca siswa melalui orientasi,complikasi dan resolusi pada teks naratif. Dalam penelitian ini direct reading thinking activity strategi adalah strategi membaca yang mana berfokus dalam meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa dalam menemukan ide pokok, infornasi terperinci, referensi, kesimpulan dan kosa kata baru pada teks naratif. Studi ini menggunakan metode penelitian tindakan kelas. Alat pengumpulan data menggunakan observasi centang dan halaman catatan. Dalam siklus pertama, kedua dan ketiga penulis menggunakan gambar dan teks sebagai membantu tekhnik tersebut. Dari hasil tes penilaian, data menunjukkan bahwa nilai rata –rata siswa mengalami peningkatan dari siklus pertama hingga siklus ketiga. Dari hasil analisis data menunjukkan pemahaman membaca siswa pada teks naratif menggunakan direct reading thinking activity strategy meningkat. Kata kunci : Pemahaman Membaca, Teks Naratif, dan Strategi Membaca Cermat Secara  Langsung.

Abstract

Abstract: This research was a pre experimental research with one group pretest posttest design. The purpose of this research was to investigate the effectiveness of using photograph series to increase students' skill of writing a report text to Year-8 students of SMPN 12 Sungai Rasau Singkawang in Academic Years 2015/2016. There were 4 classes for the Year-8, each of which consisted of 22 to 23 students. The participants of this research were 22 students of Class 8C. The data were collected with the written test measure the students ‘achievement of writing report text. The data was collected by measurement technique. The result of mean score of the students in pretest before treatment was 55.9 and the students mean score of posttest after treatment was 71.13. The research finding shows it is effective to teach writing using photograph series.   Keywords: The Effectiveness, Photograph Series, Writing Report Text   Abstrak: Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian pra eksperimental dengan satu kelompok desain pretest posttest. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui efektivitas penggunaan foto ber-seri untuk meningkatkan keterampilan siswa dalam menulis teks laporan kepada Tahun-8 siswa dari SMPN 12 Sungai Rasau Singkawang di Akademik Tahun 2015/2016. Terdapat  4 kelas untuk kelas-8, yang mana masing-masing terdiri dari 22 dan 23 siswa. Para peserta penelitian ini adalah 22 siswa dari Kelas 8C. Data dikumpulkan dengan tes mengukur kemampuan siswa dalam menulis teks laporan. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan teknik pengukuran. Hasil skor rata-rata siswa di pretest sebelum perlakuan adalah 55,9 dan skor rata-rata siswa di posttest setelah pelakuan adalah 71,13. Abstract

AbstractThe present study deal with the students' errors in pronouncing English words made by the seventh grade of students of SMP Gembala Baik Pontianak in the academic year 2017-2018. The researcher is interested in conducting research of Teochew transferred in pronouncing English words because the student still have interference in pronunciation, therefore the result of the research can be used as a feedback for the teacher and student's improvement. The data required for the study were collected by (1) Observation, (2) Test, and (3) audio recording. Finally, the result of the analysis shows that there are three kinds of errors made by the subjects, There are lengthening sounds (39,22%) and substitutions sounds (60,78%). To solve the students' pronunciation errors, they need a lot of drills and practices to pronounce English using IPA by watching carefully how the native speaker produce the sounds correctly. It is suggested that teachers should pay more attention to those particular sounds and provide extra exercise to the learnersKeywords: Pronunciation transfer, lengthening sounds, substitution sound, Teochew students

Abstract

Semantic mapping is introduced as a vocabulary presentation technique through descriptive text. The purpose of this research is to know the effectiveness of using semantic mapping in increase the students vocabulary achievement to the seventh grade student of SMPN 1 Samalantan in academic year 2011/2012. The method is through pre-experimental study, using a measurement technique in form of multiple choices and matched words which consists of 20 test items with two supported descriptive text. Based on the data analysis, the mean score of pre-test 4.4, qualifying poor and post-test mean score was 7.4, qualifying average to good. The results confirmed that semantic mapping technique in teaching vocabulary through a descriptive text effectively increase the students achievement of vocabulary. Keywords: Vocabulary, semantic mapping, achievement Abstrak: Semantic mapping adalah teknik yang diperkenalkan sebagai salah satu teknik untuk mempresentasikan kosakata dalam suatu paragraf deskriptiv. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui semantic mapping efektiv dalam meningkatkan kosakata siswa kelas tujuh di SMPN 1 Samalantan tahun ajaran 2011/2012. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode eksperimen, bentuk penelitian eksperimen adalah multiple choices and matched words dengan jumlah soal 20 item disertai dua paragraf deskriptiv. Berdasarkan data analisis, nilai rata-rata pre-test adalah 4.4, dalam kualifikasi rendah (poor) dan nilai rata-rata post-test adalah 7.4, dalam kualifikasi baik (good). Maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa teknik semantic mapping dalam mengajar kosakata didalam paragraf deskriptiv efektiv menigkatkan kosakata siswa.
