Abstract

Abstract: This research is on intended to answer the problem about to know how well the use of skimming technique improves students’ reading comprehension on descriptive text to the first semester of the tenth grade of SMA Negeri 2 Teluk Keramat in the academic year 2013/2014. In this research, Skimming technique is reading technique in which focused on improve the students reading comprehension on finding out the main idea, detail information, vocabulary and inference on descriptive text. This technique guided the students to comprehend the information of descriptive text about animals. This study used classroom action research method. The tools of data collection used reading test, observation checklist, and field note. On the first and second cycle the writer used picture, text and table as helping technique. From the result of measurement test, the data show that the students’ mean score on first cycle was 60.11. Then the second cycle the students’ mean score was 80.92. From the result of data analysis showed that students’ reading comprehension on descriptive text by using skimming technique improved. Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjawab masalah yaitu tentang untuk mengetahui bagaimana baiknya penggunaan skimming tekhnik dalam meningkatkan pemahaman membaca pada teks deskriptif untuk semester pertama pada kelas sepuluh di SMA Negeri 2 Teluk Keramat tahun ajaran 2013/2014. Dalam penelitian ini skimming tekhnik adalah tekhnik membaca yang mana berfokus dalam meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa dalam menemukan ide pokok, infornasi terperinci, tata bahasa dan menemukan kesimpulan pada teks deskriptif.  Dengan teknik ini siswa dilatih untuk memahami isi bacaan deskripsi tentang hewan. Studi ini menggunakan metode penelitian tindakan kelas. Alat pengumpulan data menggunakan tes membaca, observasi centang dan halaman catatan. Dalam siklus pertama dan kedua penulis menggunakan gambar, teks dan table sebagai membantu tekhnik tersebut. Dari hasil tes penilaian, data menunjukkan bahwa nilai rata-rata siswa dalam siklus pertama adalah 60.11. Lalu siklus kedua rata-rata siswa adalah 80.92. dari hasil analisis data menunjukkan pemahaman membaca siswa pada teks desriptif menggunakan teknik skimming meningkat. Abstract

Abstract: This study is an attempt to investigate the probable roles of extrovert-introvert personality towards speaking performance of the 2013 academic year students of English Education Study Program in FKIP UNTAN. To achieve such a purpose, 33 students were selected on the basis of availability sampling procedure and their personality type was determined by using Mark Parkinson Personality Questionnaire. Then the writer summarized and analyzed students’ midterm speaking scores. The personality and the students score were correlated by using Pearson Product Moment. The result of t-test revealed that there is statistically significant difference between the personality types of the participants’ speaking performance. There is also a different learning style between the introvert and extrovert students, introvert students prefer to study alone while the extroverts prefer to participate and study in group. Hopefully this research can be useful for achieving more effective English teaching and learning process.   Keywords: extrovert, introvert, speaking, performance Abstrak: Penelitian ini merupakan upaya untuk menyelidiki kemungkinan peranan kepribadian ekstrovert introvert terhadap kemampuan berbicara mahasiswa Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris tahun akademik 2013 di FKIP UNTAN. Untuk mencapai tujuan tersebut, 33 siswa dipilih berdasarkan prosedur ketersediaan sampling dan tipe kepribadian mereka ditentukan dengan menggunakan Kuesioner Kepribadian Mark Parkinson. Kemudian penulis menyimpulkan dan menganalisa hasil ujian tengah semester berbicara mahasiswa. Hasil kuisoner kepribadian dan skor siswa dalam berbicara dikorelasikan dengan menggunakan Pearson Product Moment. Hasil uji t menunjukkan bahwa ada perbedaan yang signifikan antara tipe kepribadian peserta dalam penelitian dan kemampuan berbicara mereka. Terdapat pula perbedaan gaya belajar antara siswa  introvert dan ekstrovert, siswa introvert lebih suka belajar sendiri sementara siswa ekstrovert lebih memilih untuk berpartisipasi dan belajar dalam kelompok. Semoga penelitian ini dapat bermanfaat untuk mencapai proses pengajaran dan pembelajaran  bahasa Inggris yang lebih efektif. Kata kunci: ektrovert, introvert, berbicara, prestasi

Abstract

Abstract The aim of this research was to find out the of using reading text to increase students’ ability in writing procedure text at the eleventh grade students of SMP ISLAM BAWARI  Pontianak. The aim of this research was to know whether teaching Vocabulary  by using reading text was effective to the eleventh grade students.The research method was pre- experimental research with one group pretest-posttest design. The population was the eleventh grade students. The sample was XI D which consist 15 students. The technique of data collection was measurement technique and the tool of data collection was a written test. The result of T-test was 8.4 and the effect size was 2.2. It means that the effect size was high effect with ES > 0.8 (2.2 > 0,8). Based on the result, the null hypothesis was rejected and the alternative hypothesis was accepted. The conclusion that the use of reading text is effective to teach students’ vocabularyKeywords : Vocabulary, Reading Text, SMP ISLAM BAWARI.

Abstract

AbstractThe aim of this research was to investigate the effectiveness of reciprocal teaching in reading comprehension of descriptive text in the eight- Grade students of SMP N 02 Sejangkung in Academic Year 2017/ 2018. The population of this research was all of eight- grade students of SMP N 02 Sejangkung in Academic Year 2017/ 2018 and the sample was taken from Class C which consists of 31 students. The writer conducted this research through pre- experimental research with one group pre- test and post- test design. The writer collected the data by using a measurement technique to measure students reading comprehension of descriptive text. The findings showed that the t-test was higher than t-table and the effect size was categorized as a strong effect. In conclusion, the use of reciprocal teaching is significantly effective in teaching reading comprehension of descriptive text. Therefore, the alternative hypothesis which stated “The effectiveness of reciprocal teaching in reading comprehension of descriptive text in eight- grade students of SMP N 02 Sejangkung in Academic Year 2017/2018” was accepted.Keywords: Reciprocal Teaching, Reading Comprehension, Descriptive Text, Pre-         Experimental Study

Abstract

Penelitian ini difokuskan pada pengajaran pemahaman membaca teks deskriptif dengan menggunakan strategi K-W-L. Tujuan-tujuan research ini adalah untuk menemukan benar atau tidaknya pengajaran pemahaman membaca teks deskriptif dengan menggunakan strategi K-W-L bisa meningkatkan pemahaman membaca teks deskriptif dengan signifikan pada kelas tujuh di SMP Negeri 24 Pontianak dalam tahun akademik 2012/2013 dan juga untuk menemukan keefektifannya. Metode penelitian ini adalah penelitian bersifat percobaan dengan satu kelompok desain pretest dan posttest. Contohnya adalah kelas VII A dari 4 kelas yang tersedia di sekolah tersebut. Data yang diperoleh dari menggunakan tes objektif dan dianalisa oleh t-test dan rumus mengukur keefektifan. Kata kunci: Pemahaman, Membaca, K-W-L, Teks Deskriptif Abstract: This research focused on teaching reading comprehension on descriptive text by using K-W-L strategy. Abstract

Abstract: This research is concerned with finding how well RAFT strategy improved students’ hortatory exposition text writing skill in terms of correctness of writing simple present tense and writing complete text organization of hortatory exposition text. The purpose is to improve students’ ability in writing hortatory exposition text. The method of this research was classroom action research. The subjects of this research were 32 students at the second semester of the eleventh grade students of SMAN 7 Pontianak in academic year 2013/2014. Based on the data analysis, the result of the research was progress. It is showed that the students’ mean score for writing hortatory exposition improved from 69.63 (average) in the first cycle to 79.90 (good) in the second cycle. Based on the result of the data analysis, the writer took a conclusion that RAFT strategy is work well in improving students’ ability in writing hortatory exposition text.   Keywords: RAFT strategy, hortatory exposition text, writing     Abstrak: penelitian ini merupakan penelitian mengenai penemuan seberapa baik strategi RAFT meningkatkan keterampilan menulis text hortatory siswa dalam hubungan kebenaran menulis tenses simple present dan teks organisasi yang lengkap dari teks hortatory eksposisi. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam menulis teks hortatory eksposisi. Metode yang digunakan adalah penelitian tindakan kelas. Subjek dari penelitian ini adalah 32 orang siswa kelas XI IPA semester 2 dari SMAN 7 Pontianak tahun akademik 2013/2014. Berdasarkan data analisis, hasilnya menunjukkan peningkatan. Hal tersebut dibuktikan dari nilai rata-rata siswa dalam menulis teks hortatory eksposisi yang meningkat dari 69.63(sedang) di lingkaran pertama menjadi 79.90 (baik) dilingkaran kedua. Berdasarkan hasil data analisis, penulis mengambil kesimpulan bahwa strategi RAFT bekerja dengan baik dalam meningkatkan kemampuan menulis siswa dalam teks hortatory eksposisi. Abstract

AbstractThis research was conducted to solve the problems that were the students’ lack of reading in their first reading, and to find out whether the phonics technique can increase the student’s reading ability. The purposes of this research were: “To obtain how well phonics to improve students’ pronouncing ability” to the students of TK Kalam Kudus Pontianak. In this research, phonics is applied as one technique in order to increase young learner’s reading skill. Phonics is one strategy to help young children in pronouncing words or sentences to measure students’ pronouncing ability. It is used to help students represent sound or sounds. For the young learners, it works as a guideline when they start reading, because they can ready a word or sentences but pronounce its sound. The method of this research was Classroom Action Research. The research was conducted in three cycles. Each of cycle consists of four stages that is planning, action, observing, and reflecting stage. The subject of this research was 15 students who are the students of Kindergarten B TK Kalam Kudus Pontianak. The finding proves that phonics technique is effective to improve the students’ reading ability. The result of this research is the Kindergarten B students of TK Kalam Kudus Pontianak has shown their significant progress in improving reading by using phonics in each cycle: first cycle 1.4 point (very poor), second cycle 2.3 point (average) and third cycle 3.1 point (good). This means that phonics in one technique which is useful to improve students’ reading skill.Keywords: Phonics, Young Learners, Pronouncing, Classroom Action Reseach

Abstract

AbstractThis research was conducted based on the problems in teaching learning process. The students had problems to comprehend the information in the generic structure of the narrative text, they were lack of vocabulary, and they did not know how to use reading strategies to comprehend narrative text. The purpose of this research was to investigate how Questions Answer Relationship (QAR) strategy enhanced students’ reading comprehension of narrative text at the Ninth Grade students of SMPN 2 Pontianak in academic year 2017/2018. The research was conducted through Classroom Action Research in three cycles. The participants of this research were the ninth grade English teacher and 38 students in class IX B. The writer used observation, and measurement technique to collect the data. The writer elaborated the result of observation checklist, field note, and students’ mean score, in order to get the research findings. The result showed that students could comprehend a narrative text through QAR strategy. QAR strategy improved students’ vocabulary, students’ understanding of information in the narrative text, and students’ understanding in applying reading strategies. In the first cycle, the students’ mean score was 58.8, it increased to 68.6 in the second cycle, and it increased to 80.3 in the third cycle. In other words, Question Answer Relation (QAR) strategy improved students’ reading comprehension of narrative text. Keywords: reading comprehension, narrative text, Question Answer Relationship strategy

Abstract

AbstractThe purpose of this study was to find out students’ soft skills level toward using English. The method to conduct this study was case study and the subjects of this research were seven males and seven females of eleventh grade students of Tourism Service Major in SMK  Negeri 1 Pontianak. The result of this study showed that there were 2 students that the total score of the questionnaire were 83 and 85. These results were considered that the students were having Very Good soft sills in both intrapersonal and interpersonal skills. These two students were categorized having more interpersonal skills as well as more social awareness and social skills. There were 12 students whose averages of total scores were 62 to 76 which considered were having Good soft skills. Five of them had more intrapersonal skills as well as self awareness and self skills, while seven of them had more interpersonal skills as well as social awareness and social skills. In conclusion, the students’ average level of soft skills was considered as Good. By recognizing level of students’ soft skills in intrapersonal and interpersonal skills, we are able to decide the suitable activities to develop and maximize their soft skills in tourism service. Keywords: Soft Skills, Tourism Service, Case Study

Abstract

Abstract: The use of cloze procedure to test the students reading comprehension. The purpose of this research is to know the effectiveness of the use of cloze procedure to test reading comprehension of the eleventh grade students of SMUN 1 Sungai Ambawang in academic year 2012/2013. The method of this research was a Pre-experimental Study and the technique of data collecting was matching test. The research findings showed the total score of pretest is 2735 with the mean score 68.375 and categorized Average. Furthermore, the result of posttest is 3155 with the mean score 78.875 and categorized Good. The result of computation on the t-test with 7.56 is higher than the t-table for the degree of freedom N-1 (40-1) = 39 is 2.042. Moreover, the computation on Effect Size of the treatment is 1.13. It is categorized Highly Effective because the result of 1.13 is higher than 0.8 that is the high level of effectiveness on Effect Size criteria proposed by Burn (ES > 0.8 = 1.13 >0.8). From the computation, it can be concluded that the teaching reading comprehension by using Cloze Procedure is highly effective. Keywords: cloze procedure, reading comprehension, effectiveness. Abstrak: Penggunaan prosedur cloze untuk mengajar siswa pemahaman membaca. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui keefektifan penggunaan presedur cloze untuk mengajar pemahaman membaca bagi siswa kelas sepuluh SMUN 1 Sungai Ambawang tahun ajaran 2012/2013. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Pre-eksperimental dan teknik pengumpulan data adalah uji pencocokan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bawha nilai total pretest adalah 2735 dengan nilai rata-rata 68.375 dan dikategorikan sebagai Sedang. Lebih jauh, hasil posttest adalah 3155 dengan nilai rata-rata 78.875 dan dikategorikan baik. Hasil perhitungan t-test dengan 7.56 lebih tinggi daripada t-table untuk tingkat kebebasan N-1 (40-1) = 39 adalah 2.042. Kemudian, perhitungan Effect Size treatment-nya adalah 1.13. Ini dikategorikan Sangat Efektif karena hasil 1.13 lebih tinggi daripada 0.8 merupakan keefektifan tingkat tinggi dari criteria Effect Size yang diberikan oleh Burn (ES > 0.8 = 1.13 >0.8). Dari perhitungan tersebut, dapat disimpulkan bahwa mengajar pemahaman membaca dengan menggunakan Prosedur Cloze adalah Sangat Efektif. Kata Kunci: prosedur cloze, pemahaman membaca, keefektifan.
