Abstract

Abstract

Tourism is a favourite sector in improving Bali revenue and kind of tourismdeveloped is cultural one. In cultural tourism, it takes place meaning modification ofcultural practice by krama (member) of traditional village) in order to cultural capitalcan survive in the middle of tourism dynamic condition. This research entitled“Cultural capital as tourism development basis in traditional village of Kuta”, byproposing three problems, namely how is the process of cultural capital as tourismdevelopment basis, what factors can motivate tourism capital as tourism developmentbasis, and what is the meaning of cultural capital as tourism development basis. The research is conducted using qualitative method and cultural studiesapproach, so data analysis is conducted in descriptive qualitative and interpretativeones. Selection of traditional village of Kuta as research location based onconsideration that traditional village of Kuta having integrated tourism facilities forfacilities addressed to member of traditional village. The review about culturalcapital as the tourism development basis in this traditional village of Kuta, eclecticstheories consisting of Hegemonic theory of Gramsci, co-modification theory of KarlMarx and Adorno, discourse-power/knowledge and truth theory of Foucoult anddeconstruction theory of Derrida.Based on the research output, it can be known: (1) Cultural capital process astourism development basis in traditional village of Kuta is inseparable fromforeigners arrival in traditional village of Kuta, the entrance of Military (TheCooperative Center of Arm Force) in managing Kuta beach and the occurrence ofBali bombing tragedy on October 12th, 2002; (2) The factors that motivate culturalcapital as the tourism development basis in traditional village of Kuta, such asmotivation and the necessity of tourists visiting traditional village of Kuta, tourismhegemony, changing of life philosophy of member of traditional village fromidealism into pragmatism one and the image as global village; (3) Cultural village astourism development basis in traditional village of Kuta has innovation, religious, preservation of cultural, political identity and prosperity meanings.Behind the success of cultural capital as tourism development basis, itimproves live prosperity, and also it causes negative effect such as there is krama(member) of traditional village for losing their cultural capital. They aremarginalized in economic field as they have no cultural capital in term of knowledgeand skill in tourism area and it is said to be “kidang nyirig pangkung”; they cannot utilize the opportunity of tourism market well. As consequence in traditional villageof Kuta, there are still poor families and they have no suitable housing.

Abstract

This research was carried out to study the response of lekang baby turtles or Day old Turtles (DOT) fed tuna fish compared to shrimp for three months from hatched. The result of the study hopefully might support their conversation since this species was reported as endanger species. Completely randomized design was used in this experiment using five feed treatments (A, B, C, D And E) which were 100% tuna, 75% tuna + 25% shrimp, 50% tuna + 50% shrimp, 25% tuna + 75% shrimp and 100% shrimp respectively. Statistical analysis showed that the average weight gain of baby turtles was significantly different among the all treatments where the fastest growth was showed by baby turtles fed 100% tuna (treatment A), while the slowest was the baby turtles in treatment E which were fed 100% shrimp. The baby turtles weight gains in treatment A, B, C, D and E were 0.79, 0.74, 0.63, 0.59, 0.52 g respectively. However, their feed consumption and feed conversion ratio mostly were not significantly different between the all treatments except for feed conversion ratio between treatment A and treatment E where baby turtles that fed 100% tuna more efficient than those fed 100% shrimp. This result was related to protein and energy consumption between the treatments and also related to protein and energy retention between those five treatments. The highest protein and energy consumption and also the protein and energy retention was shown by baby turtles fed 100% tuna and the lowest was shown by baby turtles by 100% shrimp. It was also found that width of the front flippers has close correlation with body weight (R2 = 0.74 and r = 0.86) of the baby turtles. These flippers have an important function for swimming and diving because the baby turtles live in the sea. It might be concluded that lekang baby turtles grew faster up to three months old when were fed tuna fish compared to shrimp. Their efficiency in using feed for growth similar between the all feeding treatments. There was a close relationship between the size of flippers and body weight of lekang baby turtles. Therefore, management of lekang baby turtles by feeding them with tuna fish up to three months of age might support conservation program of the turtle particularly lekang turtle as endanger species in Indonesia.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Sebanyak 24 ekor ayam pedaging berumur satu hari atau day old chick/DOC dibagi empat perlakuan, masing-masing mendapat perlakuan P0 (tanpa tepung belatung/maggot), P1 (1% tepung belatung/maggot), P2 (2% tepung belatung/maggot), dan P3 (3% tepung belatung/maggot). Pakan perlakuan diberikan mulai hari ke-14 sampai hari ke-35.

Abstract

Throughout the developing world, working animals are still vital important power bases of the small farmers' systems of production and transportation. With economic development, there is a growing interest in the animals for pleasure purposes, not only for aesthetic value but also for sport requiring speed and stamina for racing and other physical performances. An understanding of the physiology of exercise of animals is therefore needed including practical application such as to evaluate cardiorespiratory fitness and information on training for improvement in health related fitness and performance. Under the existing local condition, success have been reached to record heart rate of animals telemetrically over extended periods, and to measure longterm body energy expenditures of large animals (buffalo) involving energy balance approaches and ill vivo body composition measurements by the water displacement method. These measurements enable the development of a modest practical fitness guideline for exercising swamp/ water buffalo, e.g. V02 = (0.1 X + 3.4) ml/min/kg BW for walking, and V02 =(0.2 X + 3.4) ml/min/kg BW for trot at 100-250 m/min speed. This value at a given speed offers a measure of running economy. The value of the oxygen pulse as an index of fitness is presented, above 0.05 is regarded athletic, while lower than 0.05 is the opposite. For the female buffalo the value is 0.066 at rest but decreases with exercise of pulling a load due to moving the body with a slower speed. Male buffalo has a higher oxygen pulse, 0.094 at rest and increases with exercise. Training seems to improve the oxygen pulse. These data enable the calculation of the heart's stroke volume and the O2 debt, which are other parameters of fitness. The field of exercise physiology of athletic animals in Indonesia should be explored. The acquisition of a treadmill, blood gas analysis and ergocardiorespirometry equipment for large athletic animals would be an advantage.
