Abstract

Abstract: In literary education, literary competence lies in important position as it reflects students’ critical thinking ability to understand text as a whole and connect it to both their experience and social phenomenon. Recently, the research on literary competence focuses on the implementation of reader-response writing; however, it rarely highlights the importance of literary competence mapping through the quantification of the responses. This research aims at revealing the implementation of students’ literary competence mapping by using reader-response writing and The Council for the Curriculum Examinations and Assessment (CCEA) General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) Mark Scheme for literature subject for the assessment. Seven reader response strategies by Beach and Marshal (1991) were used as the framework. Selecting 21 students of English Literature in Prose Analysis class as the research object, this research employed qualitative descriptive method. The result shows, in completing seven reader responses, students provide various answers reflecting their ability to get into the stories. The students mostly find it difficult to describe setting of place and time and their influence to the plot of the story. In assessment process, several adjustments on distributing points of CCEA GCSE Mark Scheme for literature subject.  Mark Scheme in each strategy have been made. Almost half of the students are in the band 4 and band 5 meanwhile the rest of them are in band 2 and band 3. This research concludes that reader-response writing and CCEA GCSE Mark Scheme can be alternative to map the students’ literary competence. The research further suggest that the students should be exposed more on the analysis of setting and on the argumentation building on how they should provide sufficient reason and textual evidence. In addition, the lecturer should also emphasize the expected competence level the English Literature students should acquire.

Abstract

This research explores the cognitive development of Rapunzel, the main character in Disney’s Tangled (2010), using Jean Piaget’s theory of cognitive development as a framework. Piaget's framework, based on stages—Sensori-motor, Preoperational, and Formal Operational are applied to analyze Rapunzel’s growth from a sheltered upbringing to self-discovery. The research employs a descriptive qualitative method, focusing on scenes and dialogue to track how her thinking develops. The research shows how Rapunzel learns to think logically, solve problems, and understand more complex ideas. Her journey from being innocent and influenced by her environment to becoming an independent thinker follows the stages of Piaget’s theory. By looking at her experiences, the reader can see how they challenge her understanding, help her become more independent, and lead her to a more mature way of thinking. Through this critical examination, the research highlights the relevance of Piaget’s theory in understanding character growth within narrative storytelling.

Abstract

Indonesia, as an agrarian country, heavily relies on the availability of water for irrigation, raw water supply, and electricity generation to support industrial growth. One of the government’s efforts to ensure water availability is the construction of dams, including the Cibeet Dam, which serves to reduce flooding, provide raw water, support irrigation, and generate electricity. A crucial component of a dam is the spillway, which must be capable of accommodating excess water, especially during extreme flood events. This study aims to re-evaluate the spillway design of the Cibeet Dam using a hydraulic and structural stability analysis approach. The data used includes the Cibeet Dam planning documents, topographic data, hydrological data, geotechnical data, soil investigation data, climatological data, and reservoir capacity data. The analysis covers stability against overturning, sliding, seepage, and soil bearing capacity under three water level conditions (empty, normal, flood), and assesses construction cost efficiency. The results show that reducing the spillway crest width by 0.5 m only increases the head (Hd) by 2 cm. The spillway with an ogee crest and USBR II stilling basin is considered stable, with safety factors >1.5 under normal conditions and >1.2 during seismic events. The soil bearing capacity is also deemed sufficient to support the structure under all water level conditions.

Abstract

Regional general hospitals, as the first line of healthcare services, still face the challenge of high patient mortality and morbidity rates. Efforts to reduce these rates can be achieved through the implementation of the Team Medical Emergency (TME) and Code Blue systems as early detection mechanisms and rapid response to emergency situations. This study aims to determine the implementation of TME and Code Blue at Dr. Soedirman Regional General Hospital, Kebumen. The research method used a case study design with secondary data collected from May 2022 to February 2023. Data were analyzed to determine the distribution of TME and Code Blue activations based on case type, gender, and service unit. The results showed that TME and Code Blue activations were most common in patients with internal medicine cases, male patients, and in adult inpatient wards. These findings indicate that the implementation of the TME and Code Blue systems is significantly influenced by factors such as case type, patient characteristics, and treatment location. The general implications of this study are the need to optimize healthcare worker training, strengthen early detection systems, and continuously evaluate TME and Code Blue implementation to reduce mortality and morbidity in regional hospitals.
