Abstract

Rice length and shape are the important quality traits in rice that affect consumer acceptance and price. Rice length and shape can be improved through crosses followed by selection. Genetic parameters influence effective selection. The research objectives are to estimate genetic parameters for rice length and shape in the F2 population of Basmati Delta 9 x Koshihikari and Basmati Pakistan x Inpago Unsoed 1. F2 rice population from crosses of Basmati Delta 9 (extra-long, slender) x Koshihikari (short, round), Basmati Pakistan (extra-long, slender) x Inpago Unsoed 1 (medium, medium), and the parents are used for research material. The genotype is planted using an experimental design with no replication. Rice length and shape data were collected from each plant. The collected data is used to estimate the genetic parameters of rice length and shape. The results show that polygenes control rice length and shape. Transgressive segregation is obtained in the F2 population of Pakistan Basmati x Inpago Unsoed 1. The genetic diversity of rice length and shape is low, so reducing the selection intensity of these traits is suggested. The estimate of broad sense heritability and genetic gain of rice length and shape was high.

Abstract

This research explores the cognitive development of Rapunzel, the main character in Disney’s Tangled (2010), using Jean Piaget’s theory of cognitive development as a framework. Piaget's framework, based on stages—Sensori-motor, Preoperational, and Formal Operational are applied to analyze Rapunzel’s growth from a sheltered upbringing to self-discovery. The research employs a descriptive qualitative method, focusing on scenes and dialogue to track how her thinking develops. The research shows how Rapunzel learns to think logically, solve problems, and understand more complex ideas. Her journey from being innocent and influenced by her environment to becoming an independent thinker follows the stages of Piaget’s theory. By looking at her experiences, the reader can see how they challenge her understanding, help her become more independent, and lead her to a more mature way of thinking. Through this critical examination, the research highlights the relevance of Piaget’s theory in understanding character growth within narrative storytelling.

Abstract

Information on soil type and thickness becomes important in planning land use for various purposes, both agriculture and infrastructure. Measurements to identify this information have been developed using various methods, one of which is the ultrasonic wave method. However, the measurement of the thickness of the soil layer is carried out by knowing the speed of wave propagation in the layer. Generally, in various measurements, the assumption of a constant ultrasonic wave propagation speed is used. However, in various situations where the layers have mixed to form a gradation layer, it is necessary to characterize the soil first. This study aims to characterize the graded soil layer by measuring the speed of ultrasonic waves at conditioned thickness. The composition of the gradation layer was varied and the speed of propagation was measured. The results show that the composition of the soil in the gradation layer affects the ultrasonic wave propagation speed quite linearly. Experiments carried out on variations in the composition of lembang soil, laterite and humus showed a linear relationship with an average coefficient of determination of 0.978 and the results of testing the function of soil composition in the gradation layer to the speed of wave propagation resulted in an average error of 1.32%.

Abstract

One of the main factors that cause environmental damage in Indonesia is waste. Reducing waste by burning it directly without an incinerator will cause air pollution for the environment. CO2 is a substance produced by a complete combustion process. The amount of waste produced by Bandung Regency reaches 1,480.1 tons/day, with 20% of the waste being plastic waste. One way to utilize plastic waste is to recycle it into materials to produce paver blocks. Producing paver blocks requires a series of machines, such as crushing machines, plastic melting machines, and pressing machines. Plastic waste that has been sorted is put into a chopping machine and cut into 10 mm pieces. The plastic that has been cut is then melted down and printed, then re-pressed with a press machine. The type of plastic used in this research is polypropylene, with a melting point of 160-170°C. The size of the paver block produced is compatible with the market size. During the production of paver blocks, the CO2 concentration was monitored to see the effect of resin melting. In the analysis of paver blocks' economic potential, we found that the production cost using plastic waste is relatively expensive compared to conventional paver blocks. However, this type of paver block is not harmful to the environment. The results of this study indicate that plastic waste paver blocks can be used as paver block materials because they have quite an impact on the environment, although their economic value cannot compete with conventional paver blocks.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the costs required to build a guard post building in the border area of Papua, Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. It is hoped that this research will contribute to improving the national defense, especially regarding the construction of guard posts in national border areas. This research discusses the construction of the guard post by describing the volume of work and the planned cost budget, and the data collection methods used are primary and secondary data. In this research, guard post drawings were planned according to the standards of the Indonesian Army and supporting data in the form of Unit Prices for Goods and Services (SHBJ) in the Papua region, as well as the Ministry of PUPR's Unit Price Analysis Guidelines. Apart from that, the type of work along with the volume of work is arranged followed by an analysis of the unit price of each job. Then the Cost Budget Plan (RAB) is calculated to get the total price for each job. Thus, the total cost required to build a guard post building on the Papua border is IDR 119,441,000.00. In the future, it is hoped that this research can become a reference for building guard posts around the Papua border area.

Abstract

The earthworm Eudrilus eugeniae (African Night Crawler) can be used as a raw material for making protein hydrolysates. Hydrolysis of earthworms using papain enzyme produces peptides that have bioactivity as antioxidants. Antioxidant activity in earthworm hydrolysate is caused by phenolic compounds that have an important role in neutralizing free radicals. This study aims to determine the effect of earthworm concentration and papain enzyme concentration on soluble protein, total phenolic content, and antioxidant activity. This study used the Randomized Block Design (RBD) method arranged with two factors, namely earthworm concentration (20% 30%, and 40% (w/v)) and papain enzyme concentration (8%, 10%, and 12% (w/v)) with three replications. Data analysis used Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and continued with the DMRT test. The results showed that earthworm concentration, papain enzyme concentration, and the interaction between the two factors had a significant effect (p<0.05) on the test results of soluble protein, total phenolic content, and antioxidant activity. The treatment with earthworm concentration (40% (w/v)) and papain enzyme concentration (12% (w/v)) produced the highest mean soluble protein, total phenolic content, and antioxidant activity of 11.47%, 23.07 mg GAE/mL hydrolysate, and 3301.42 ppm.
