Abstract

This article puts forward an idea of implementation of developmental guidance andcounseling principles with Islamic perspectives in raising children in a family. Someconcepts of Islam closely related to the implementation of developmental guidance andcounseling in a family cover concepts of human nature, purpose of human creation, potencies of human, human characteristics, disaster happened to human, and death ofhuman. As for implementation of developmental guidance and counseling for children,it should start from the smallest unit of society, that is, family. The role of family inhelping a child to develop his/her potentials is very important because a child is bornto and brought up by parents. A child learns to develop in his/her environment. He/shealso learns how to interact with the environment properly from his/her parents. Althoughthe role of a family is very significant, not every family is able to play the role well. This is probably because of the mistakes in choosing spouses, feeding the family, andeducating the child. This could probably because of a role model crisis and lack of parentobservation. Considering the weaknesses, a preventive idea in the form of developmentalguidance and counseling is suggested. This idea can be applied by a family to help developthe biological, psychological, social, and faith potentials of a child. Therefore, the childcan grow and develop optimally in line with their age level and in accordance to the willof his/her Creator.Key words: developmental guidance and counseling, Islamic guidance and counseling, human potentials

Abstract

The understanding of human nature is very important for human resource development, becausethat understanding will be a starting point in establishing development objectives, developmentstrategies, method selection, and the types of media used. The main problem that has arisenso far is that the understanding of human nature is only based on the results of quantitativeresearch, without considering the information from the Essence of the Supreme Creator ofhuman (revelation), and consequently there are missing elements which limit the developmentof human resources. These studies only discuss things relating to physical, psychological, andsocial aspects; while important things such as the human creation process and its purpose, humanity’s status before God, its potential and its development have not received enoughattention. To find answers to the above shortcomings, qualitative research utilizing documentstudy techniques of Quranic main verses relating to humanity was conducted. It was conductedusing maudhu’i interpretation, namely by studying verses which are related to humanity throughthe understanding of the interpreters of the Quran. It was revealed that humans do not exist bythemselves. There is a creator that is God The Almighty. The purpose of human creation is toworship Him till the end of his life. Humans cannot determine the result of their own effortsbecause their lives partly still depend on God’s permission. Human life is not only here andnow, but there will be a life hereafter, where humans will receive the rewards of what theydo during their life in the world. Some characteristics which differentiate humans from othercreatures were also found. From the beginning of their creation they are equipped with “faith”;there is the mind which allows man to be able to distinguish between right and wrong, and theconscience that enables humans to know the things beyond the sensory. Keywords: human, natural tendency, conscience, Quran, maudhu’i interpretation.
