Abstract

Introduction: Fatigue is a common symptom in chronic renal failure patients undergoing hemodialysis. Fatigue has a negative impact on quality of life and general physical condition. There is a need for a treatment method that is easy, inexpensive, and can be done independently by families or caregivers to reduce the level of fatigue of chronic renal failure patients before, during and after hemodialysis. Aim: This study aims to determine the effect of foot massage on fatigue in CKD failure clients undergoing hemodialysis. Massage therapy is an alternative solution that can reduce fatigue levels. Methods: This study used a rapid review approach with the 2020 PRISMA guideline. Performed by searching articles from the PubMed, CINAHL, SAGE Journal, and Tandfonline databases and the Google Scholar search engine. The keywords used were chronic kidney disease, massage therapy, fatigue, and chronic kidney failure, massage therapy, and fatigue. Articles included in the study were full-text articles in English and Bahasa Indonesia, randomized control trial (RCT) and quasi-experimental study designs within the last five years (2018-2023), and focused on adult clients with chronic renal failure undergoing hemodialysis. Result: Seven articles analyzed found that massage therapy can reduce the fatigue level of chronic renal failure patients undergoing hemodialysis. The therapy time can be given with a duration of 15-60 minutes with a frequency of 2-3 times a week for 3-9 weeks. Conclusion: This intervention can be a recommendation for nurses to teach families about foot massage therapy. Further research is needed on the long-term benefits and family or caregiver involvement in its implementation and comparing the benefits of foot massage therapy with other complementary therapies to overcome fatigue in patients with chronic renal failure.

Abstract

The global prevalence of hypertension has shown a consistent increase, including in rural areas, which generally have limited access to health services, nutrition education, and resources for non-communicable disease prevention. Changes in consumption patterns due to modernization have exacerbated exposure to dietary risk factors, particularly high intakes of salt, saturated fat, added sugar, and low fiber consumption. As a modifiable risk factor, diet plays a crucial role in hypertension control, yet scientific evidence in rural populations remains scattered and has not been systematically synthesized. Therefore, this study aimed to map scientific evidence on the relationship between diet and hypertension in rural populations through a scoping review approach. A search was conducted in PubMed, Scopus, Science Direct, and Cambridge Core using the PICOS framework for publications from 2020-2025. Of the 21,045 articles, 10 met the inclusion criteria based on PRISMA-ScR and JBI quality assessment (score ≥75%). The results showed that the majority of studies found a significant association between unhealthy diet and hypertension, particularly when accompanied by obesity and a pro-inflammatory diet. Factors such as physical activity, culture, and nutritional status also influence this association. These findings underscore the importance of locally tailored community nutrition interventions and promotion of anti-inflammatory diets to prevent hypertension in rural areas.

Abstract

Background: Hypertension is a major public health issue worldwide, and its prevalence is higher in coastal areas with significant contribution from high dietary sodium such as salted fish. It is salted and dried fish that still BYs part of their daily diet in these parts, because of its very keeping-qualities and abundance. Purpose:  The purpose was to systematically map the scientific evidence on the relationship among salted fish consumption and hypertension in coastal regions. Methods: A scoping review method was used in this study based on the PRISMA-ScR guidelines. PCC were perBYed on five databases including: PubMed, Scopus, Science Direct, Cambridge Core and Google Scholar using the PCC framework with key search terms; "hypertensive patients OR hypertension patient OR hypertension sufferer" AND "salted fish OR saltwater fish" AND "coastal area". Articles were selected through strict inclusion and exclusion criteria and appraised using the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) guidelines. Results: A total of 376,619 articles were initially identified. After removing 75,312 duplicates, title and abstract screening excluded 330,997 articles, leaving 43 articles for full-text review. Of that 33 articles were eliminated because they did not meet methodological feasibility, and finally 10 articles with a JBI quality assessment score of ≥75% were declared eligible. Most studies reported a significant association among salted fish consumption and the incidence of hypertension, primarily based on observational study designs. The only one that did not report significant associations was a study by Williams et al. Conclusion: High intake of salted fish is significantly associated with an increased risk of hypertension among coastal populations, that may inBY on culturally appropriate interventions and community-based health promotion.

Abstract

Fatigue is a common and persistent symptom in patients with tuberculosis (TB), particularly in recurrent cases and when accompanied by pneumonia. Increased systemic inflammation and reduced activity tolerance often lead to functional decline, while pharmacological treatment alone may not sufficiently address fatigue. Progressive muscle relaxation (PMR) is a non-pharmacological intervention that reduces muscle tension and stress, support physiological recovery. This study describes the effect of PMR to reduce fatigue in a patient with recurrent tuberculosis and pneumonia. This study is a case review involving a 65-year-old female patient diagnosed with pulmonary TB and pneumonia. PMR was administered over four consecutive days, with one session lasting 15–20 minutes per session. The sessions were conducted at varying times, including in the morning, afternoon, or before bedtime. Fatigue levels were measured after each session using the Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy-Fatigue (FACIT-F) Scale. The patient showed improvement in vital signs, with blood pressure increasing from 108/65 mmHg to 116/61 mmHg, heart rate decreasing from 111 to 62 beats per minute, and the FACIT-F score improved from 12 (severe fatigue) to 36 (mild fatigue), indicating a reduction in fatigue severity. Functionally, the patient was able to walk to the bathroom independently and no longer experienced weakness or dyspnea post-activity. These findings indicate that PMR contributed to a reduction in the patient’s fatigue level. This intervention has potential as a supportive rehabilitative strategy, with adjustments in duration and frequency based on patient condition.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Coffee is one of the most widely consumed beverages among college students due to its caffeine content, which acts as a stimulant to the central nervous system and serves to increase alertness and cognitive function. However, excessive coffee consumption can cause side effects such as sleep disturbances and decreased cognitive performance. This study aims to determine the relationship between coffee consumption frequency and learning concentration levels among students at the Faculty of Nursing, Padjadjaran University. This study used a correlational quantitative design with proportionate stratified random sampling technique. The sample consisted of 251 students from the Faculty of Nursing, Padjadjaran University. The research instruments used were a coffee drinking habit questionnaire to measure the frequency and amount of coffee consumption, and a learning concentration instrument to measure attention during learning, with a reliability value of ≥0.80 in previous studies. Data analysis was performed univariately using frequency distribution and bivariately using the Spearman Rank test. The results showed that most respondents had a low frequency of coffee consumption and a moderate level of concentration. Bivariate analysis showed no significant relationship between the frequency of coffee consumption and the level of concentration (p=0.137; p0.05). This study concludes that the frequency of coffee consumption is not a major factor affecting students' concentration. It is recommended that further research examine other variables such as sleep quality, academic stress, learning motivation, and study habits. Keywords: Coffee Consumption Frequency, Caffeine, Learning Concentration, Nursing Students.
