Abstract

Tillage is an activity that aims to increase soil fertility, improve soil structure and create good soil conditions for plant growth. Soil processing can be done in several ways, one of which is the application of fertilizer to plants. Farmers' understanding of efficient and effective fertilization methods is still not fully mastered. Most farmers often fertilize plants beyond the recommended dose. This community service activity aims to (1) farmers can understand knowledge about non-subsidized fertilizer products from PT. Petrokimia Gresik, (2) increase farmers' understanding and knowledge of fertilizer quality and balanced fertilization technology to achieve relatively efficient fertilizer use, (3) farmers can understand the condition of private land and understanding of the amount and type of fertilizer PT Petrokimia Gresik needed. The methods used include surveys, socialization, and practical demonstrations regarding soil testing of farmers in Putat Lor Village, Tajinan District, Malang. Based on this socialization activity, the results obtained are (1) the knowledge of farmers in Putat Lor Village regarding non-subsidized fertilizer products from PT Petrokimia Gresik is increasing (2) increasing knowledge of farmers in Putat Lor Village about fertilizer quality and balanced fertilization technology (3) farmers in Putat Lor Village know the condition of the soil from private land through soil test practices so that they can estimate the type and amount of fertilizer to be used.

Abstract

This study examines the role of agricultural counselors' performance in shaping rice farmers' satisfaction and behavior in East Java, Indonesia. Agricultural extension is central to national agricultural development, as counselors act as facilitators, motivators, and change agents who bridge knowledge and technology to farmers. Using a survey of 215 agricultural counselors and 215 rice farmers across Pacitan, Nganjuk, and Lamongan, data were collected through validated questionnaires and analyzed with SEM-PLS. The findings reveal that counselor performance is significantly influenced by job satisfaction, competence, motivation, and independence, while individual characteristics contribute less. Among these, job satisfaction shows the strongest effect, indicating that adequate facilities, supportive work environments, and fair compensation drive counselor effectiveness. Furthermore, counselor performance directly enhances farmers' behavior in adopting agricultural innovations and indirectly improves their satisfaction, particularly through improved yields and more consistent guidance. Farmers' satisfaction, in turn, fosters positive and proactive behaviors such as active participation and the application of extension recommendations. These results highlight that effective extension services depend not only on technical competence but also on psychological and organizational factors that motivate counselors and strengthen farmer trust. The study concludes that strengthening counselor performance is essential for sustainable agricultural development, farmer empowerment, and increased rice productivity.

Abstract

The imbalance in workload highlights that women farmers bear dual responsibilities, which limits the time they can allocate to rice farming activities, thereby affecting farm productivity. This study aims to analyze and describe the allocation of working hours between female and male farmers, the contribution of female farmers to productive and domestic activities, and the factors influencing women's labor time allocation in rice farming. The data were analyzed using descriptive methods and multiple linear regression based on the Cobb-Douglas model. The results show that the labor time contribution of women in rice farming amounts to 14 person-days per season, which is lower than that of men, who contribute 17.3 person-days per season. The proportion of women's labor time dedicated to productive activities is 16.1%, while 83.9% is allocated to domestic tasks. The variables that significantly and positively influence women's labor time in rice farming include household size, women’s wage rates, and land area. Age also significantly affects labor time allocation but has a negative relationship, indicating that older women tend to contribute fewer working hours.

Abstract

The role of agricultural training is very important, especially considering the decreasing number of government extension workers in the field and the lack of interest of young people in agriculture. Through training, farmers can improve their competence in skills, expertise, and knowledge in the field of agriculture. Training/education and training at the UPT which focuses on processing vegetable crops uses a learning system with concepts and analysis and with the existing curriculum and is supplemented with the support of learning and practice facilities and infrastructure provided by the training instructor. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effectiveness of training on the skills of its training participants. This research method uses the Kirkpatrick model as a measuring tool to determine whether the training is effective or not which consists of 4 levels, namely: evaluation of reactions, learning, behavior, and results. The respondent sample used the census method, namely all participants totaling 30 people. The results of the Kirkpatrick model research show a high level of participant satisfaction with the training materials, methods, and facilitators (reactions), a significant increase in participant knowledge and skills based on the results of the pre-test and post-test (learning), positive changes in the application of knowledge in the field (behavior), and a real impact on increasing the productivity and management of participants' farming businesses (results).

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the key factors influencing the volume of Indonesian coffee exports to the European market from 2004 to 2023. As one of the world’s largest coffee exporters, Indonesia has experienced significant fluctuations in its export volume. Using multiple linear regression, the research examines the impact of three independent variables—rupiah-to-US dollar exchange rate, national coffee production, and the price of Indonesian coffee in the European market—on export volume, the dependent variable. Secondary data were sourced from official institutions, including Statistics Indonesia, FAO, ITC, and Bank Indonesia. The results indicate that all three variables have a positive and significant effect on export volume. The regression model explains 75.5% of the variation in export volume, with the remaining 24.5% influenced by external factors not included in the model. These findings underscore the importance of maintaining stable production, competitive pricing, and favorable exchange rates to enhance Indonesia’s coffee export competitiveness. The study provides strategic recommendations for stakeholders to enhance Indonesia’s coffee export performance by promoting production efficiency and macroeconomic stability through policies.

Abstract

This study examines the determinants of stagnant growth in the food crop subsector in Pacitan Regency despite extensive government support policies. Using annual time-series data from 2004–2024, a simultaneous equation model estimated by Three-Stage Least Squares (3SLS) is employed to capture the interaction between agricultural credit, extension services, and regional policies. The results show that agricultural extension has the largest and most significant elasticity with respect to food crop output, followed by fertiliser subsidies, while agricultural credit exhibits a positive but relatively small elasticity due to its limited use for productive investment. Policy simulation results indicate that a 20% increase in extension services generates the strongest impact on output growth and poverty reduction, whereas credit expansion alone produces only a moderate effect. The combined policy scenario—integrating extension strengthening, fertiliser subsidies, and credit reform—yields the highest synergistic gains in production and welfare. These findings provide empirical evidence that institutional complementarity is crucial for enhancing agricultural productivity in marginal regions and offer a data-driven framework for designing integrated regional agricultural policies

Abstract

The objective of this study is to examine the trend of Indonesian nutmeg exports to the global market, with a particular focus on the Chinese market, and to assess the impact of macroeconomic variables, including inflation, exchange rates, and interest rates, on nutmeg exports. The data set spans the period from 1990 to 2023. The forecasting of export volume employs the ARIMA model, while the measurement of the impact of macroeconomic factors utilizes multiple linear regression. Regression analysis reveals that the inflation variable exerts no statistically significant effect on long-term export trends (p-value 0.7897 > 0.05). The exchange rate variable has a significant positive effect on nutmeg exports in the long term (p-value 0.0000 < 0.05), indicating that a depreciation of the rupiah increases nutmeg exports in the international market. The results indicate that interest rates have a significant negative effect on exports in the long term (p-value 0.0146 < 0.05). This is due to the fact that an increase in interest rates leads to an increase in production and borrowing costs, which in turn reduces export volumes. Furthermore, in the short term, none of the macroeconomic variables demonstrated a significant impact. The findings of this study indicate that the limited influence of macroeconomic factors in the short term can be attributed to the distinctive characteristics of nutmeg as a niche market commodity and the prevalence of cooperative agreements between firms. Nutmeg has essential uses and unique qualities that render its demand relatively stable and insensitive to price fluctuations or macroeconomic changes. This indicates that nutmeg, with its segmented is capable of maintaining consistent export volumes despite short-term fluctuations in economic conditions. In order to enhance competitiveness on the global market, a more focused marketing strategy and market diversification that incorporates the distinctive attributes of this commodity are essential.
